What the Senior gameplay designer (Jon Weisnewski) said in Crucible Radio Ep. 126 concerning Destiny 2

[b]First I would like to say that I didn't write any of this, turboash78 in reddit wrote this down and credit goes to him. I didn't find any mention of this here and wanted the people who use bnet to know this useful information.[/b] [b]turboash78:[/b] So in this week's CR Podcast they talk to Mr.W about many of the design and gameplay philosophies that went into D2. Nuggets: - Sunshot = Firefly (too bad they had to take it away from Legendaries) - purposely reduced our access to high powered weapons to make the Crucible and the whole game better (wat) - moving secondaries to the power slot sucks but makes those moments more "potent" - focus on combined weapon loadout vs single-weapon-focused loadout - nerfing of cooldowns supposed to increase potency of the moments when you get to use them - slowing down TTK helps us decide what we should do at that moment (thanks!) - wanted to make PvP more exciting to watch on Twitch (I nearly spit out my coffee at this one) - team shooting doesn't put stress on us to land shots (lol holy shit at this one) - Wardcliff coil was supposed to be in D1 but it didn't have the proper launch platform - random to fixed rolls: random rolls too difficult to talk about with friends (no... seriously), fixed rolls better for casuals - players get items quickly and easily on purpose: for casuals and to attract new players to the game, tough shit for people who want to grind - random rolls too complicated to balance in PvP, goal to make fewer guns but spend more time on them and make them have their own identity/role (valid argument IMO, and I loved random rolls) - subclass set paths easier for us!!! "advanced players" pair their subclass with Exotics (= "depth") - "the depth is still there" (coffee spit-take somehow avoided) - ricochet rounds greatly help range - intrinsic weapon perks taken directly from D1 (Lightweight = lightweight, Rapid = spray and play, Precision = counterbalance, Aggressive = high caliber rounds) - high caliber rounds flinch greatly multiplied if you/your opponent is moving and is also scaled by weapon damage - every weapon has a degree of hcr (affecting both outgoing and incoming flinch) I recommend giving it a listen. From what I've seen most of the community doesn't like this 180 which Bungie has done. I however am very disappointed, the one game which I took serious for 3 years has been turned into a casual fest, they were so worried and focused on new players they forgot about the people who never gave up on them and this is what we get?!   • Well no kidding random rolls were difficult to balance. With more combinations it become a greater and greater hassle. The problem with the fixed rolls is twofold: -The existing perks are pretty mundane and/or so minimal that they are hard to notice. -The pool of loot is way too small for a game like this where you get loot everywhere. It might not have been as bad if loot had better drop rates to compensate. What I mean by this second point is: -Exotics with D1 drop chance -Legendaries with D2 heroic public event exotic drop chance -Rares with D2 legendary drop chance -Greens with D2 blue drop chance If gear was rarer and more plentiful in variety the fixed rolls wouldn't be such an issue. As it is with gear pretty much being vomited at us it gets old getting repeats.

  • Yep, this actually convinced me to make Warframe my priority game with Destiny 2 as a backup. Iron Banner is so boring, I am using Three Graves just for the #$^%$ of it!

      In D1 I had a Guardian that had powerful abilities and varied traits. In D2, I have a simple Guardian that has...moments. Ffs. All they're doing is making it a more slow-paced generic shooter. [spoiler]In D1 players still paired exotics to their subclass wtf is this about "advanced" players doing this in D2? So PvP built for teams but they'll frequently match 4 singles vs a 4-man squad. Built for teams - if Rumble comes back it's going to be so shit- two players engaged in a fight then some tosser waiting till they're both low health having done the tedious pew-pew work for him and he mops them both up. Fun.[/spoiler]

    • Hopefully Anthem does to Destiny what Overwatch did to Battleborn. Huge bummer to have all this confirmed. No less by someone who isn't a community manager and on a podcast, not a direct message to the playerbase. Bungie has fully succumbed to Activision.

      • Bungie doesn’t care, they only care about sales number. It’s easier to get people to stop playing and have them come back on dlc. They don’t even care about the dedicated players because that only made up 500,000 dedicated players in d1. They are hopping to get the other 6.5 million casuals to buy the dlc. I️

      • Finally, some real answer in simple English. Look like a copy and paste then modify version of CoD: Black Ops 3 multiplayer mode program, at least they're honest about their vision of D2 (those coffee spitting moment though).

        • I think they should at least let you have a full super at the beginning of crucible so you could "choose the moment" then maybe build a second suer for down the road!!! In competitive you need to go through so many matches to get your super. Sad innit'

        • After reading posts for months, I have come to the realization that this is the game they want. Yes they will be changing things,but nothing drastic. This is not destiny 1, and it never will become destiny1. For all of the players D1 is done,we had three great years imo. I personally will continue to play D2, but the days of playing this for hours apon hours is over. I bought the dlcs for the first year,but will be hard pressed into continuing after this year.

          by reading this I can safely say that my destiny journey ended here for me and probably for many of us too, let's see if it pays out for bungie on long run fooling us like this I mean if they would be honest like this before the game launched about how bad it has been designed , I wouldn't even bother buying it , but at the same time I wouldn't care, but they bait & switched us with D2 took our money and gave us this abomination instead of a genuine destiny sequel

          • If you've already got the season pass, then I reccomend you do not play the Osiris dlc when it is released. This should send them the message that you dont agree with the way the game is heading, and hopefully it will make them think "Why arent they playing what they've bought? We must have done something wrong" and to change the direction the game is heading.

              These crucible guys are idiots. Everything was fun in terms of abilities and random rolls. Just give us a damn gun smith to re roll until we get what we want. All you had to do for abilities was make them weaker, not turn them into tampons. This whole garbage game was made for worthless casuals who were gonna leave the game anyway after 2 weeks. Why make a game for them in the first place?

                • Wow.. totally supports what allot of said. Everything was nerfed due to PvP. Great, thanks cry babies. Hope you enjoy the mess you created with all those nerf posts or suggested balance posts. Next time just enjoy the game for what it was, fun.
