First I would like to say that I didn't write any of this, turboash78 in reddit wrote this down and credit goes to him. I didn't find any mention of this here and wanted the people who use bnet to know this useful information.
turboash78:
So in this week's CR Podcast they talk to Mr.W about many of the design and gameplay philosophies that went into D2.
Nuggets:
- Sunshot = Firefly (too bad they had to take it away from Legendaries)
- purposely reduced our access to high powered weapons to make the Crucible and the whole game better (wat)
- moving secondaries to the power slot sucks but makes those moments more "potent"
- focus on combined weapon loadout vs single-weapon-focused loadout
- nerfing of cooldowns supposed to increase potency of the moments when you get to use them
- slowing down TTK helps us decide what we should do at that moment (thanks!)
- wanted to make PvP more exciting to watch on Twitch (I nearly spit out my coffee at this one)
- team shooting doesn't put stress on us to land shots (lol holy shit at this one)
- Wardcliff coil was supposed to be in D1 but it didn't have the proper launch platform
- random to fixed rolls: random rolls too difficult to talk about with friends (no... seriously), fixed rolls better for casuals
- players get items quickly and easily on purpose: for casuals and to attract new players to the game, tough shit for people who want to grind
- random rolls too complicated to balance in PvP, goal to make fewer guns but spend more time on them and make them have their own identity/role (valid argument IMO, and I loved random rolls)
- subclass set paths easier for us!!! "advanced players" pair their subclass with Exotics (= "depth")
- "the depth is still there" (coffee spit-take somehow avoided)
- ricochet rounds greatly help range
- intrinsic weapon perks taken directly from D1 (Lightweight = lightweight, Rapid = spray and play, Precision = counterbalance, Aggressive = high caliber rounds)
- high caliber rounds flinch greatly multiplied if you/your opponent is moving and is also scaled by weapon damage
- every weapon has a degree of hcr (affecting both outgoing and incoming flinch)
I recommend giving it a listen.

Edit 1:
I'm glad I was able to inform the people who use Bungie forums about this information. From what I've seen most of the community doesn't like this 180 which Bungie has done. I however thank Jon for his honesty because the people who were meant to speak up "community managers" clearly were too scared to say anything abut this. I however am very disappointed, the one game which I took serious for 3 years has been turned into a casual fest, they were so worried and focused on new players they forgot about the people who never gave up on them and this is what we get?! Really?!
Edit 2:
For the people blaming "Crucible guys" for the mess we're in just stop. Please just stop. I blame Bungie's inability to patch pve and pvp separately. But as you can see they are catering to the casual audience not "CRUCIBLE GUYS". You're throwing your discontent to the wrong people.
Edit 3:
Thanks for the 400

It was a conspiracy the BDF content creators said. Nope, it was true all along. Bungie has become one of the more shady and cunning developers in the business.

Shame on you bungie

Why is it that every person Worth a damn at bungie are not in positions to be speak yet we get these stupid ass explanations from literally the worst spoken guys in the company . Honestly the last livestream had no enthusiasm what so ever for their own game. It’s like these were forced to go through the motions and completely unhappy being the guys to do it . When they do these things why can’t the pull from a more dynamic pool of employees and not the dB bowl every -blam!-ing time . Anyone remember the reveals back in the day for halo 2 halo 3 and that man the entire team was excited to be sharing . Now everyone of them have the look and sound of “why the -blam!- am I here “. I was pumped when that mustache dude was throwin down side effects for the shield and explaining how bad ass it was . You could tell that he loved his job and loved what he was doing . Samuel that was his name right ? Then you had Chris talking rise of iron the guy actually seemed excited to share it with us . Now days their choice in who reveals sucks and how the -blam!- as a community are we supposed to get into it when the god damn developers and live team look miserable . I don’t know what to make of it anymore . Did activision give everyone of them a colonoscopy or threaten one ? What the -blam!- !!!

Yes since D1 Crucible crybabies ARE to blame. Fact. End.

4 RepliesEdited by SpecialKDude: 11/25/2017 5:31:16 AMDude I listened to the whole podcast. Your comments over exaggerate everything he said.

They mention reducing things to intrease the potency or themoment. I don’t think they understand that they are merely reducing the potency of the whole game. I D1, we had power and we loved it. In D2 the power is rationed to the point we feel starved.
-
1 ReplyAgain: Can we just split PvP and PvE? I understand the reason to have fixed weapon rolls (easier PvP balancing), but it is affecting the second half of the game (PvE) a little too much. And can Bungie just make two separate end-games? One for the casuals (enough to feel like you done something) and for the hardcore players (the ones who stick around the longest).
-
I honestly feel as tho the majority of you who are crying about this are either awful players, or were never breast fed...or maybe were breast fed too much
-
2 Repliesmaybe the reactions to this is why bungie doesn't communicate with us.

TTK isn’t slowed the fùćk down giving you “time to think” when 3-4 peeps are shooting you at once and you have zero viable strategy to fight them cause you’re solo against a clan cause all yours ditched a while ago, all weapons have been nerfed to shït so you might as well just stop shooting and take the death, and your super isn’t up for another 3 minutes. 🤬😡 Yes, I’m bitter. 😤

Edited by Fenrir's Heart: 11/25/2017 3:16:11 AMThis guy is so tone deaf! These three statements give me very little hope for the future: "wanted to make PvP more exciting to watch on Twitch" and "team shooting doesn't put stress on us to land shots" Twitch viewership has cratered and nearly all streamers have abandoned or voiced deep discontent slowing down TTK helps us decide what we should do at that moment theres simply too much movement for these TTK Simply adopting the attitude of love or leave it is a sure fire way to ensure no D3!

The random roll thing is bullshit. I can happily list every perk that was in D1 and what they did and so can most destiny players, only the casuals couldn’t and that’s the point, they’re casuals... They screwed with the formula to much. It was PERFECT going into RoI but they -blam!-ed it all.
-
Edited by Phobos113: 11/25/2017 2:39:12 AMI will say that snipers, fusion rifles, and shotguns are right where they belong in D2, those guns were a menace in D1 crucible. In fact, they should cut WAY back on the amount of times that heavy spawns in D2 (so that it's about twice a match) and make it so that anyone standing around the spawn gets heavy as well (the way it was in D1), I see too many n00bs who run for heavy and use that for most of the match, and it's -blam!-ing annoying. It is a shame that they catered too much to players who were too dumb to figure out how the old perk system worked, but hey, what are you gonna do?

Edited by Der_Peevmeister: 11/25/2017 12:27:06 AMDestiny 2 is the last ‘in good faith’ game I’m buying from Bungie, sadly. It’s a myriad of factors, only some of which are Activi$ion, poor management (both Activi$ion and Bungie, Harold Ryan I am looking at you), corporate greed, complacency with the times, and a big one here: Jason Jones, where the hell are you?! Granted, I don’t have all the facts, nor will I ever but goddamn, man! Speak to us, Jason! Am I a hater? By some people’s definition, sure. Am I a fanboy? Yes, or at least I was. With Joseph Staten at the helm, how could I -blam!-ing NOT be?! I bought the D1 collector’s edition. The game was what it was, for better or worse. I bought the collector’s edition for D2, doubling down on my love for the promise of Destiny’s story and my hope (faith?) in Bungie, eschewing their deal with the devil, Activi$ion thinking maybe, oh just maybe the...vocal discontent would be enough for Activi$ion to perk up and say, “...eh?” and Bungie to seize the moment to say, “Maybe we should actually...” or “instead, hows about we try....” [run-on sentence] Alas, I’ve learned my lesson. Yes, come at me ‘I told you so’ peeps. You were right and I was wrong. And that’s what upsets me. It wasn’t with Infinity Ward, Ubisoft, or EA that I learned this lesson, it was with Bungie. And that’s what stings the most.
“We are the jaded crowd. If we don’t like a game, we’ll stop playing it.” - Paraphrased, Jason Jones in re: Halo 2 development.
Edited by blade329: 11/25/2017 1:33:22 AM
wanted to make PvP more exciting to watch on Twitch (I nearly spit out my coffee at this one)
LMAO!!!!
- nerfing of cooldowns supposed to increase potency of the moments when you get to use them
What? Who? Arggghhh......This would make sense if the grenades and abilities were actually GOOD. I've said this before. It's fine to have a long cool down on a powerful grenade/ability. It's fine to have a short cool down on a weak grenade/ability. However, it is MONUMENTAL STUPIDITY to make a long cool down for a freaking weak grenade!!!

Might as well have called the player base children
-
D1 PVP is far more entertaining on Twitch... omg... IDIOTS!!!
-
Of course I can blame crucible. I didn't buy this game for pvp. I bought it because I was hoping the pve would be more of an RPG. The description still irks me to this day, "A shared world shooter with rpg elements". Should have just called it wannabee CoD from the makers of Halo. I was hoping for exploration, crafting, trading, and customization. I have since moved onto Warframe, where there is no emphasis on pvp or the drive to make it exciting to watch on twitch. Unfortunately, I bought the season pass DLC. I will never do this again for a Bungie title.
-
It was interesting to hear them talk about the built in perks to the weapon archetypes. I did not know that aggressive weapons had built in high caliber rounds. What I found particularly interesting is that high caliber rounds still exists as a perk on some weapons, but light weight, counter balance, etc... don’t. So no wonder Uriel’s gift is so good. You get the built in counter balance and high caliber rounds. They should remove high caliber rounds as a perk and leave it as a build in bonus on aggressive weapons.
-
That is pretty upsetting. I still want to give the live team a chance, they did help d1 out big time. Hopefully they are allowed to spread their wings.
-
Guys I’m a casual player and even I think this game has very shallow end game content. Bungie needs to fix this game. They have ruined destiny. They can’t even give us a new raid with the dlc this is just plain laziness. FIX UR GAME BUNGIE
-
3 RepliesEdited by I_will_X_U: 11/25/2017 12:27:59 AMI thank Bungie for turning me into a casual. I load the game, play one match of crucible, shake my head in disappointment, and eject game and contemplate on splitting the game into pieces. But at least I have so many hours to play other games. Your game is trash bungie. Even the crucible maps are so basic. I would sit here listing the more than 100 things that are better in Destiny 1, but Destiny 2 is not worth my time.
-
Who the heck is this game designer!!! Y is he making this game. Also it doesn’t matter what the game designers like about the game the PLAYERS OPINIONS MATTER. Who gives a -blam!- about what the game designers opinions!

Damn it! Jon Weisnerfski is at it again!
