TL;DR: Met and played with the guy who has the #2 elo in the world. He was a d***. Don't be that guy....
...And I see why I people hate "tryhards" or a majority of them so much.
I was just playing a strike for bounties looking for my god roll LDR, and I got a message from one of the people I've played Trials with a couple of times inviting me to play 6v6 elimination private matches. It sounded pretty fun to me so I said I'm in, joined, and get into a party full of about 8-10 people. One of them was "that tryhard", and I could tell from the start. We only had four people, and the tryhard put it on skirmish, so I was confused at first but decided to just say screw it it'll be fun.
Then the tryhard, as we're loading into the game says, "alright no exotics, no luck in the chamber, no sidearms, and no no land. And no duplicate classes either". If anyone is confused, to my knowledge, those are the current rules for sweats or competitive play in Destiny. Except the no No Land Beyond and no Sidearm rules, I don't remember ever hearing those implemented. Jokingly I responded "Wtf hell no I'm using whatever the **** I want, this ain't no sweat." He responds with "bro those are the rules there's rules in this game, you gotta play by the rules". I said, joking again "Bro there is no rules whatsoever right now, I got a message inviting me to 6v6 elimination, not 4v4 sweats."
Eventually the match started and somewhere throughout the argument he starts going on a rant about how if you use this and that and whatever else then you suck. Especially sidearms. So I bring up how one of my favorite streamers and people in general in this community, TrueVanguard, loves sidearms and how he's one of the best of the best and that it's undeniable that he's one of the best because it shows in his gameplay and how often he makes crazy plays. And then one of his buddies makes the comment "dude I hope you know you're talking to number two in the world man." And the tryhard, number 2 himself, responds with "bro you think streamers are good but most of them aren't, most of them are really bad. A lot of the really big streamers are bad.".
Here's the things I have a problem with:
1) This guy's sense of entitlement has flown out of the window, past the clouds, into space, all the way to friggin Pluto. Just because you're ELO is the 2nd highest in the world doesn't mean you're automatically in control of everyone you play with and that everyone has to follow what you say. Hell, there were a few other people in there ignoring him and using exotics and whatever else they wanted to. We get it kid, your ELO is high and you're good at the game, cool, that doesn't make you the holy one that everyone should rally around, protect, and serve. Because I could give two ****s what your ELO is.
2) Why was it even necessary to bring up that this kid was second in the world in the first place? His buddy stepped in and announced it as if I was going to all of a sudden have a ton of respect for the guy, bow down, and apologize. I get it, you've strived for what you've achieved and you've done it, you're high on the leaderboards and one of the best players in the world on paper, good for you. But if you think that that's going to make me just have some sort of automatic respect for you like you're some sort of god or roll model, then you can **** right off. Especially when you're a jerk like this guy was. And I have even less respect for the type of people who will rally around people like this guy just because of his stats on paper.
3) True Vanguard isn't that good? Are you kidding me? A lot of the top streamers and YouTubers aren't that good? Are you kidding me? The reason why I have a problem with this should be self explanatory. To say something like that is just ridiculous. These people play video games for a reason, people watch them not only because they're entertaining or fun to watch, they're awesome at the game. And I hope he wasn't including streamers that aren't mainly PvP players in his list of "top streamers" who aren't that good. Or even the streamers who're obviously not good at PvP. We're talking about PvP, therefore the top PvP players who stream should be the only ones in your list.
We're talking people like TrueVanguard, Hush, nKuch (and any other Primal members), RealKraftyy, Luminosity, and others alike. These are the people who simply dominate in public matches, consistently play sweats and stream it for a living, and carry people Flawless to the lighthouse whether the people they carry be good, decent, bad, or absolutely horrible at the game. All of these things take a high level of skill to do. Are all of these things totally different worlds? Yes, however, that doesn't mean they simply aren't that good because they aren't the absolute best at everything possible.
(Incoming random sports reference) Are Lebron James, Kevin Durant, Stephen Curry, Anthony Davis, Demarcus Cousins, Kyrie Irving, Odell Beckham Jr, Tom Brady, Richard Sherman, etc. just not good because they can't play whatever position they want whenever they want and be the absolute best at whatever they decide to do whenever they decide to do it? No, that makes no sense. They are some of the best at what they do and that makes them some of the best period.
The basic point is this. If you're striving to be one of the best, cool, good for you. If you get to be one of the best, cool, good for you. That's awesome and I'm sure you're proud, and you should be. But don't be an ***hole about it. Stay humble and don't expect everyone to bow down and follow you just because you made it. You look like a **** when you act like that.
Edit: Sooooo, trending, that's cool. Gonna just let this post ride out now though and stop responding to people. Probably makes me look like the female genitals to whoever wants to argue with me but whatever. It's cool, I can't control it. Just remember, don't be #2 and have a good day.

62 RepliesWhat you're seeing is two things. 1. What happens when you set loose a shitload of competitive energy in a game....but do nothing to discipline that energy. Sports are extremely competitive. Especially when you begin to play them at the elite level.....or the professional level. But every sport has a "culture of sportsmanship" that clearly define what is---and isn't----acceptable behavior. Some sports---like golf----have very formal and very rigid rules. Other sports ----like football or hockey----are pretty rough and tumble. But even in football and hockey, no one's going to tolerate you acting like an asshole. The problem is that there is NONE of this in "competitive" video gaming. So you have all these people running around----many of whom turn to video games because athletics weren't for them----who NEVER learned the difference between being a tough and focused competitor....and being a jerk. So they simply act like jerks. 2. People who derive their sense of self from competition, often see the world in "vertical" terms. In terms of status, and "who's up and who's down". They'll often kiss up to those whom they perceive as having more status, while "kicking down" at those whom they perceive as having less status. Which can make them really miserable people to be around because they're CONSTANTLY taking the status "temperature" of any room. What gets really -blam!-ed up is that such people will often run in packs. Especially if they're young. Where people of "lesser" status---but that same vertical, status-seeking mindset will "ally" themselves with someone of higher status in an effort to improve their own by "osmosis". Its why Lions always have jackals around. Its every schoolyard bully always has one or two "lieutenants" and why every celebrity seems to have a "posse" or "entourage" that follows them around. Bottomline: It looks like you stepped into a pile of both of these. The take home lesson is one that was shown beautifully in a recent commercial for the NCAA. Showing athletes winning an event to the caption of "Win". Then followed up by them showing kindness to the person whom they had just beaten. One was footage of a wrestler winning a match in which his opponent had been hurt. When he realized that the guy couldn't walk off the mat on his own, the guy picks him up, throws him on his back, and carries him off the mat. To the caption of "Winner." THAT is the role the culture of sportsmanship plays. It teaches when that fire is appropriate...and when its time to TURN IT OFF....and that you can be both a tough competitor in the arena, and a decent human being. Kindness is not weakness. Rudeness and nastiness is the weak-and-insecure man's imitiation of a strength.

I would've screwed with so bad. Would've asked "Why are you #2? Why aren't you #1?" "So there's someone better than you huh?" Probably would have teabagged the hell outta him after putting a sniper bullet through his skull then talked shit the rest of the match 😂😂😂

Man, TrueVanguard knows what's up. He is one of the reasons I use non-meta weapons every time. For that try-hard, just say ELO is farmable, respect is not.
-
Good story man. People should try to be more humble and remember it's just game.
-
TV is a great player but not the best of the best. When he sweats he sometimes does very well and often gets destroyed. Sidearms lul. So ez to use.

If you're not first you're last

1 ReplyVery refreshing post...people take this shit so seriously man. I get it and there is nothing wrong with trying hard and being competitive but people think it's life or death. I picked up this game when ROI launched and instantly fell in love with crucible. I'm decent and I do compete when it's time to but when people message me saying I'm a scrub because of my setup I respond with "yes, I'm awful...I agee". I could give a shit what you think about my setup...as long as I win the engagement it doesn't matter. I'll compete and play my best but it's all in fun. People need to stop insulting others or thinking they are god like due to being good at a video game...it aint that deep.

And no one cares!

1 ReplyBeing number 2 is bad though. Your the first person to be a loser for not being number 1 lol

1 ReplyThat's Xbox destiny for ya, what was his name btw?

2 RepliesWelcome to xbox destiny ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Hes just over compensating with bragging rights in a video game because his real world peen is so small. Good for you bud holding it down against an dbag
-
He sounds like a Beta.

-
I used to be the "that guys" mate who reminded everyone just who they were talking to. Granted he was in the top 5% for suicides.
-
My Elo is trash and I could care less.
-
You should remind him that he is good at a freaking VIDEO GAME! And thats the extent of his talent.
-
So you have immediate respect fpr streamers but none for a gamer like you in the trenches who on paper is number two??
-
1 ReplyHe must get sooo much pussy with that elo. Holy shit
hes prolly got a 12 inch cock too
Sorry you had to run into a person like that OP. Luckily I never had any experience like that (Not on Destiny at least). You can tell that #2 ELO dude has literally nothing else going on in his life if he takes gaming that seriously. I could understand if it was a tournament where they explain the rules beforehand, but not when it's a random game. Poor dude must think that's the crowning achievement of his life smh
-
I see this whole situation as a big waste of everyones time. If you didnt like how the dude was talking, or the gamemode he chose you should have just quit. Now you posted an essay which really is just a bunch of whining to waste even more of your time and everyone else's. Long story short, you can save a lot of time by not dealing with people who want to act like jackasses.

9 RepliesWHHHAATTY? You made a post deeming someone (who has more thumbskill) bad? Wtf is that, thats some weak shit, idk id you view pvp or video games as a kiddie T-ball where no matter if you win or lose you get a trophy, but you are seriously complaining because someone is better than you? Holy shit you are dumb.

A better ending to your edit would have been "Just remember, don't be a #2 and have a good day."
