So I ran into "that tryhard"...

TL;DR: Met and played with the guy who has the #2 elo in the world. He was a d***. Don't be that guy.... ...And I see why I people hate "tryhards" or a majority of them so much. I was just playing a strike for bounties looking for my god roll LDR, and I got a message from one of the people I've played Trials with a couple of times inviting me to play 6v6 elimination private matches. It sounded pretty fun to me so I said I'm in, joined, and get into a party full of about 8-10 people. One of them was "that tryhard", and I could tell from the start. We only had four people, and the tryhard put it on skirmish, so I was confused at first but decided to just say screw it it'll be fun. Then the tryhard, as we're loading into the game says, "alright no exotics, no luck in the chamber, no sidearms, and no no land. And no duplicate classes either". If anyone is confused, to my knowledge, those are the current rules for sweats or competitive play in Destiny. Except the no No Land Beyond and no Sidearm rules, I don't remember ever hearing those implemented. Jokingly I responded "Wtf hell no I'm using whatever the **** I want, this ain't no sweat." He responds with "bro those are the rules there's rules in this game, you gotta play by the rules". I said, joking again "Bro there is no rules whatsoever right now, I got a message inviting me to 6v6 elimination, not 4v4 sweats." Eventually the match started and somewhere throughout the argument he starts going on a rant about how if you use this and that and whatever else then you suck. Especially sidearms. So I bring up how one of my favorite streamers and people in general in this community, TrueVanguard, loves sidearms and how he's one of the best of the best and that it's undeniable that he's one of the best because it shows in his gameplay and how often he makes crazy plays. And then one of his buddies makes the comment "dude I hope you know you're talking to number two in the world man." And the tryhard, number 2 himself, responds with "bro you think streamers are good but most of them aren't, most of them are really bad. A lot of the really big streamers are bad.". Here's the things I have a problem with: 1) This guy's sense of entitlement has flown out of the window, past the clouds, into space, all the way to friggin Pluto. Just because you're ELO is the 2nd highest in the world doesn't mean you're automatically in control of everyone you play with and that everyone has to follow what you say. Hell, there were a few other people in there ignoring him and using exotics and whatever else they wanted to. We get it kid, your ELO is high and you're good at the game, cool, that doesn't make you the holy one that everyone should rally around, protect, and serve. Because I could give two ****s what your ELO is. 2) Why was it even necessary to bring up that this kid was second in the world in the first place? His buddy stepped in and announced it as if I was going to all of a sudden have a ton of respect for the guy, bow down, and apologize. I get it, you've strived for what you've achieved and you've done it, you're high on the leaderboards and one of the best players in the world on paper, good for you. But if you think that that's going to make me just have some sort of automatic respect for you like you're some sort of god or roll model, then you can **** right off. Especially when you're a jerk like this guy was. And I have even less respect for the type of people who will rally around people like this guy just because of his stats on paper. 3) True Vanguard isn't that good? Are you kidding me? A lot of the top streamers and YouTubers aren't that good? Are you kidding me? The reason why I have a problem with this should be self explanatory. To say something like that is just ridiculous. These people play video games for a reason, people watch them not only because they're entertaining or fun to watch, they're awesome at the game. And I hope he wasn't including streamers that aren't mainly PvP players in his list of "top streamers" who aren't that good. Or even the streamers who're obviously not good at PvP. We're talking about PvP, therefore the top PvP players who stream should be the only ones in your list. We're talking people like TrueVanguard, Hush, nKuch (and any other Primal members), RealKraftyy, Luminosity, and others alike. These are the people who simply dominate in public matches, consistently play sweats and stream it for a living, and carry people Flawless to the lighthouse whether the people they carry be good, decent, bad, or absolutely horrible at the game. All of these things take a high level of skill to do. Are all of these things totally different worlds? Yes, however, that doesn't mean they simply aren't that good because they aren't the absolute best at everything possible. (Incoming random sports reference) Are Lebron James, Kevin Durant, Stephen Curry, Anthony Davis, Demarcus Cousins, Kyrie Irving, Odell Beckham Jr, Tom Brady, Richard Sherman, etc. just not good because they can't play whatever position they want whenever they want and be the absolute best at whatever they decide to do whenever they decide to do it? No, that makes no sense. They are some of the best at what they do and that makes them some of the best period. The basic point is this. If you're striving to be one of the best, cool, good for you. If you get to be one of the best, cool, good for you. That's awesome and I'm sure you're proud, and you should be. But don't be an ***hole about it. Stay humble and don't expect everyone to bow down and follow you just because you made it. You look like a **** when you act like that. Edit: Sooooo, trending, that's cool. Gonna just let this post ride out now though and stop responding to people. Probably makes me look like the female genitals to whoever wants to argue with me but whatever. It's cool, I can't control it. Just remember, don't be #2 and have a good day.

  • Just a big fat FYI.....ELO is a farmable stats that is abused by many of the top people on the leaderboard. I'd judge someone by their Grimoire before I'd be concerned what their ELO is.

    • one lovely morning before work a few months ago, i was playing Mayhem Clash with a couple of bros. we were doing well, iirc we were on Dungeons with some other folks and our team wrecked theirs. of course we got broken up afterward, and while we're sitting there in orbit i get a couple of party invites, both people who had been on our team in the previous match, so i back out of matchmaking, ask my bros if we're cool picking up randos to fill out the team, and invite them along. one of them has a name that is very familiar but i can't quite place it, maybe we raided together before, idgaf. the one dude is super chill, but the one whose name was familiar, i looked him up, and (at the time) he turns out to be the number one guy in the crucible for Orbs Dropped and was (again, at that point) higher than me on the Mayhem Clash leaderboards (which was why i had known his GT), so i'm excited to wreck shop with this guy on my team and have him on my friend list, right? hooray for serious Mayhem friends, added, invited, let's go! aaaaand the guy does nothing but bitch the entire time we're playing and humble-brag about what he brings to our team, which is all the orbs and all the suppressors. he's running Defender and can do nothing but whine about being killed mid-super-pop or how his suppressor didn't affect this or that enemy player or how there's some kind of thing with Force Barrier and a bubble that cancels things out and he's complained to Bungie but they won't listen to him even though he's a Defender Expert and has pooped every orb in existence and we're all welcome for more supers and blah-blah-blah, it's a never-ending torrent of both passive-aggressiveness and negativity when we all just want to have fun and kill things. two matches in, he complains that he has a migraine and bails on us, which is fine by me at that point and i have never apologized more profusely to my friends for picking up a rando asshat like that. other rando was a solid guy though and played a few more matches with us before we all split up to go to work. fast-forward to a month and a half ago or so, i get an invite from this dude for some private mayhem clash matches, and he had some of his other buddies in there and we were actually having a pretty good time. they all wound up leaving to do other things so we started a 1v1 just for shits and giggles and, to my horror, another of my buddies joins us and starts chatting us up, it comes out that Orb Guy hasn't raided yet this week. my buddy is all about helping folks raid and the Orb Guy is down when asked, i'm frantically messaging my buddy to not go through with this but it's too late, we both get invites to my buddy's party. it comes out that Orb Guy doesn't have the OP quest and we all agree to do monitors for him. his LL is 370-some at this point so we do NM for him, which turns out to be for the best because he dies constantly, makes horrible jokes (sexist, -blam!-y -- most of my friends are or were Dads of Destiny and i'm female, we don't usually joke around that crudely with each other ffs because you never know who's got a kid on the couch with 'em ffs) and bitches about the game being broken the entire time when the rest of us just want him to shut up. _then_ we get to the server room... we wasted probably forty-five minutes on this guy in this section alone. he didn't know binary so he had to jump onto pillars, but he was incapable of following direction (even when i'm shooting at them!) and finally started complaining that he was bored. 'we're doing this for you, dude,' says my buddy, 'don't you need the outbreak prime quest?' dude pops off with 'i already have it, it sucks'. at this point _i'm_ pissed, so i'm like 'waitaminute, you told us you needed this quest, do you or not?' and the guy is all 'this sucks, destiny is trash, i'm bored, i'm gonna go play something else' and he just bails on us without an apology, without a thank-you, nothing. this grown-ass man-child just bails. we all split up after that, none of us needed a raid done that week, and i promptly blocked that asshat from my friend list. my buddy promised to listen to me when i'm telling him not to invite someone along for a raid, so that was something, at least. ... and that's my tale of my only real brush with Crucible 1%-ness. if that's the 1%, screw it, i don't want to run with any of them anyway.

Thank god some one has came out and talked about this. I have a friend who's been flawless over 150 times who makes fun of me kicks me if I'm using the wrong gun or ditches me when one of his good friends is on and just tells me to deal with it. Then he rages at you when you do something wrong in trials when his kid is zero and brags about how good he is

Even worse, it was probably one of those rich kids who call everyone "peasants". If I were in your shoes, the instant I hear those rules, you go into a match, get a Weylorans March with that one Red Dot sight looking scope, and kill him. He will be like " THATS A NO LAND BE....oh.....-blam!- you. *you drop your headset because dropping the Mic is cool* He comes back for the revenge, shoots you with a Colovances Duty, you catch the bullet in between your teeth. You look back at him and say "Not today Padre". You chew the bullet up, and start spitting out mini bullets that go the speed of light. You spit them like a mini gun. The kid gets shredded. You go up to him in his last dieing breaths, rip his helmet off. He was actually KeemStar. You fall to your knees, look up to the sky *it begins to rain* and yell "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!". You get kicked from the Fireteam. You realize that it's just a game and that he will respawn, your Ghost makes it rain (water not $) in you ship, you fall to your knees yet again, you look up to the sky and yell.... *AD* Have you ever been in the middle of birth and had a sudden craveing for Cheez-its? Well, We have all been there at some point. But now, with knew technology, you can have Cheez-its on the go. Just put this hard drive into your Ghost. And at any time, ask him for some Cheeze-its, and BOOM! Cheez-its right in front of you! Just call : S1V4-M3M3!!!! It's only 999999 Glimmer!!!*AD END* But before you can yell BOOM! You get shocked by lightning, and you die. The End.

                      • The Elo system is so broken and abused in ways for which it was not meant to be used that is doesn't mean much now. You can run stacked all day wiping everyone, skorri abusing with shock locks while the two other players on your team are two 700 Elo account recovs that have mains of 2.0+ KDs. You could also card reset to farm and abuse the system more. What I do is take Elo and give it a 200 point range of error in either direction to get a rough estimate of ability, KD agreeing with it all of course. People reset characters just for stat wipes so that isn't always accurate either. At the end of the day, just play for fun. If you say that playing for fun won't get you good teammates, well being good will get you good teammates lol. People don't always match their stats and others will see that. TLDR Stats mean -blam!- all, just enjoy yourself

I have also heard he is a giant douchebag with a huge ego. All these things I have heard are from his former trials teammate who played on recovs to boost his friend's elo (and ego) Who knows if they are true or false, that is what I have heard anyways ^_^

Anyways I'm a mainly PvE player I love helping people through raids and stuff, when they're willing to listen, but even I see how much trash ELO, which sadly this great band has been tainted by destiny's ranking, has caused a good amount of PvP mains to be. At the end of the day we need to remember it's a game. People play for fun not to have the sweats, I mean have you ever been so hot you've played while sweating? It sucks.

                              • Thats the thing that doesnt make sense, if theyre so good and have slaves that go off and stroke their dicks telling other people his place on some leaderboard then he should be able to deal with whatever people use. Not sure why theyll bring up leaderboards, 99 percent of the playerbase cant even do simple shit like platforming on a raid or use an item manager so theyll cry about not having space to store stuff.

Elo doesn't even matter when the game is so imbalanced. Hundreds of guns yet only 5-6 see usage at any given time. This is coming from someone who cared and maintained a 2100 elo in trials using a scout and fusion rifle all of year 2 ( what I like and isn't meta) . This was with absolutely no farming because screw that play the game as intended and helping a lot of friends who weren't good . I got bored of this shitfest. No other game gives people so much benefit for playing cheap such as camping supers , camping sniping , shotgunning whole games with no primary usage , now sidearm spam .Etc .

                                • Elo is basically a moot point nowadays when you can just as easily spend your time farming it.
