Campaign - Halo Reach
Intro - Nine years of doing one thing will make you a master of your craft, so it should be no surprise that Halo: Reach is Bungie’s most Polished Halo game to date.(it's my fav) Which is surprisingly more detailed than previous Halos considering the lack of develop time. Bungie’s last attempt at the Halo universe has them crafting the most sophisticated gameplay you’ve ever played in a shooter, while adding their best story yet.
Gameplay - It is almost redundant by now to praise Bungie for having intuitive gameplay; it’s fast, tense, and incredibly well thought out in terms of level design and set piece battles. The addition of the armour abilities and the incredible AI make the game challenging and frenetic in terms of minute-to-minute action. While it was frustrating at times to die from random blasts, it turned the game into a trial and error, that created an interesting tension that hung on every decision you make on the battle field, which are markedly more vast than previous Halo games. Replaying a battle never felt monotonous, which Destiny lacks severely. Approaching a situation is a dynamic task that is made all the more interesting with the constant barrage of lateral events happening at once, and it takes careful planning to learn exactly where you should run in like a boss, and where you should take your time.
Epic - This game even had space combat in it. Which the controls were workable and the gameplay was immense and a lot of fun, blowing shit up in space. Taking on a Covenant Corvette, while dealing with constant enemy reinforcements of Banshees, Seraphs. This was expected in Destiny, yet again disappointment.
Immersion - The most compelling aspect of Reach was the emphasis on making you feel outnumbered and outmatched, which was accomplished largely by the ruthless AI covenant forces. Whereas in Destiny it just feels so artificial, with AI spawning constantly, it doesn't feel like a war, it feels like a simulation. The enemies themselves are very detailed & appear intimidating, they are bigger and stronger than your character. The player should completely disregard any preconceptions of AI behavior, as enemies will flank, roll, take their time, and even bait in an attempt to expose you to multiple enemy fire at once.
In terms of story telling, Bungie actually knows how to write a story & implement it in the game. The story starts of on a bad note, relying on characters that have yet to be realized. But as the game continues, you the characters get fleshed out to quite a degree and their traits become tied to their ends. The narrative was compelling, what was the fate of Reach, while we knew the end from the beginning, what would happen to Noble Team. The epic ending leading well into an incredible Credits segment that underlines the forgone desperate conclusion to the planet Reach – one of the best endings for a game I have played so far.
Overall, Halo: Reach is a first-class example of a science fiction shooter, plain and simple - What Destiny should be. The universe is fully realized, the gameplay is high-quality and implemented flawlessly, and the story is relatable enough to which anybody can understand what is at stake. The latter point I think is what transcends Reach from other Halo games is because of the Serious tone.
Campaign - Destiny
Intro - Destiny is an always-online first-person shooter from Bungie, the studio that created Halo. It’s set in our solar system, in the future, and puts you in the role of an anonymous Guardian, just a unexplained dead guy - revived. As you run around in the game, you’ll see lots of other identical Guardians going about similar tasks, with the same armor, weapons as you. There are no friendly AIs in-game, which is quite lacking considering Bungie's talent in that area. Thanks in part to the game’s popularity, there are always other people around - this is essential as the game is a boring husk without friends.
Story - Seriously - You’ve be brought back to shoot a bunch of aliens in order to help…save the world…or rather, help… well, it’s not quite clear what you’re really doing, actually. You’re shooting things. That’s pretty much what you’re doing.
Progression - All that shooting is imbued onto a character-leveling structure. As you play, the game provides regular drips of experience points, which allow you to level up (mainly by playing the story will level you up, with the endgame putting you above the max level), which in turn grant you new abilities like Nova Bomb, Fist of Havoc, Blink and so on.
Repetitive formula - Shoot enemies, get XP, and level up. Shoot more enemies, get more XP, and level up again. Once you hit level 20, you go and shoot enemies, get new gear, and use that gear to level up. That’s pretty much all there is to do.
The gunplay is akin to Reach, yet improved. It has the best gunplay on the market. It's just so polished and Flawless. Shame many avoid it in Crucible, as they are too busy spamming Supers, high aim assist weapons.
The Gameplay is lacking, is just an on-foot shooter, the vehicles are too far and few between. Supers do substitute for that, to a degree. The battles take place in Corridors, and small areas. Not very intuitive level design - Run to point B, Fight 3 waves of enemies at Point B, then Run to Point C, and fight a boss there. Super repetitive, yet progression relies on this...
Overall, Destiny is a first-class example of a failure, plain and simple - What Destiny should be, isn't. The universe is just not in the game. It's a very interesting and detailed Universe, shame it's trapped in the Grimoire. The Gunplay is high-quality and implemented flawlessly, and the story is non-existent.
Well this took like an hour and a half... These games are relatable on some notes, and incompatible on others, hence the difference in Segmentation - aka Immersion for Reach, and Progression for Destiny.
Transparency - Because I'm not the best writer, & I found it difficult to write some sections. - I took some segments from Reviews and edited them to fit my perspective.
FYI - this account is an alternate, my main is in my bio.
- Stop bringing up Halo 3...

1 ReplyIts funny because I've been playing reach for about 6 years, and I currently played it today.
-
4 RepliesI beg to differ: Halo 3 was the best Reach was a mess and killed Halo for a lot of the die hard halo community... they tried to make it to much like CoD. The campaign was good though.
-
12 RepliesI actually felt sad when Kat got quickscoped by that Jackal.
-
5 RepliesHes actually serious. Wow. Reach was shit and the beginning of halo turning into complete trash, and destiny is good. Where you been? Lolwut
-
Even though lore wise I knew what was going to happen to all the main characters I still felt sad after each death, still one of my favorite games to date
-
1 ReplyWhy is this even a post
-
1 ReplyTrolling all day? Fishy ins't hungry.....
-
Halo reach was the shit when it came out i loved it, but destiny for me is probably one of the greatest games i have played in awhile, i dont hate on either of these games because bungie made both of them and they create amazing games. If they were to recreate halo reach for xbox one i know i would jump on that in a heart beat
-
Miss that game

6 RepliesReach is a materpiece and ahead of its time when it came out. People that hate on it probably just don't like MC not being in it and other changes. It's like people really like it or hate it. The story was great. Idk how people can hate on it so much... It's about sacrifice and loss, unlike the other halos which were more about a New hope, etc. Gameplay is amazing. Combat is fluid, you can finally run, and do assassinations that aren't just some insta kill punch to the back like in past halos. Back to the story, it's there. There are numerous data pads laying around (some appear on certain difficulties) and you can read up on everything in the wiki. For destiny, they don't have a story. What we have are fragments of a rushed game. I think it's also important to point out that the halo games were made over the years and so was the story so obviously reach was going to have more story to it... Only thing was is that destiny came with absolutely nothing. Vanilla destiny is pathetic in that sense.
-
Don't listen to this he's looking for some people to just get mad if you see this leave the post
-
7 RepliesDestiny is better than halo in every way except the story itself, but also i have not beaten destiny yet either, either way destiny, the gameplay, just blows halo up like 5 scorpion tanks with 50 grenades mashed into a tiny ball inside master chiefs helmet resting upon his undiscovered face.
-
This is true, and I still think halo 3 was the best game ever made.
-
"Repetitive formula - Shoot enemies, get XP, and level up. Shoot more enemies, get more XP, and level up again. 4 RepliesThe Reach story was, in my opinion, better.. Destiny lacks a substantial, congruent, and immersing story. Some aspects of the character customization was better, in other ways not so. Destiny's gameplay and gunplay is better, to me anyway. Destiny also has better and more options in multi-player, although not quite as streamlined as Reach. I loved Reach, favorite Halo, but Destiny has had much more to offer me in terms of content and gameplay.
-
1 ReplyI've played, and beaten Halo Reach, and definitely do think it's amazing... But I think it would've been better with Raids. There is just something about raiding with a group of your buddies trying to get that Legendary drop you still need etc. I also like the Supers(yeah I know Halo Reach had armor abilities/effects etc.) in Destiny.
-
2 RepliesWow, so.. You put some time into this then, huh??
-
Edited by Sixth Devil King: 5/6/2016 1:17:23 AMwhile i love halo reach, its not rly dificult to make a better story than destiny. but i have to say i like the gunplay a lot more in destiny, the guns handle very well and the supers are fun. just the pvp is kinda trash with the >1sec kill time. thats where halo (and especially halo reach imo) shines the most. loved the vehicle combat. on the flip side; its incredible difficult to make a story thats even worse than destiny. like the division...
-
Hell ya the last mission of reach was so epic and you got attached to each member of noble team. Also multiplayer was very fun, big team battle, swat, griffball, a second version of forge world. Often pvp maps would be user created ones that would change out for new ones. All the custom games, races, jumping puzzles, mini games, etc. Reach was awesome
-
1 ReplyOh you reachtard
-
1 ReplyThe bias is so strong I just stopped reading.
-
5 RepliesI like Destiny's raid better.
-
4 Replies
Overall, Destiny is a first-class example of a failure
Absolutely not true, it's been very successful.

4 RepliesI'll just make this easy... Halo: Ce You are a soldier man, in a suit, fighting something. Covenant. Different kinds of enemies. Oh, and a strange lady who was never introduced besides the captain saying her name once is riding along in our head. Fun times. Destiny You are a guardian with a strange floating thing who brought us back. Well thanks thing. Meet the Fallen. Strange hostile creatures which are more relentless then the covenant primarily because they don't have grunts. Halo: CE Strange hostile place. Halo ring. Covenant are around, boring mission to rescue a bunch of marines and see a bunch of new and exciting places inbetween. Cortana can't explain any of it either. What do we get to fight? A bunch of enemies in a stalemate for a single tower. Destiny Go back to the same area, meet the Fallen again, fight your first actual boss. I personally liked the legendary horde mode of covenant, but I also think that first boss, as I was one level beneath the HM level, was more challenging to not get hit by it's shots. lol... Halo: CE For the next few campaign missions? You are literally doing nothing, but opening doors, fight mobs, and learning about Halo. Destiny You go to the next planet and instead of the prior point? You are introduced to the Hive, Vex, and Cabal. No backstory, nothing to really do (we know the background was scrapped by Activision) and you reach the first endgame content. Halo: CE You have blown up a Halo ring and are floating in space. You do not have anything else to go off of. Destiny You have blown up the heart of the Black Gardan and light as begun returning to the traveler. You are welcomed back to the Tower and told by the Stranger there are more threats coming. Point for point? Destiny is about enjoying the world. Halo: CE? Was just about playing soldier on a foreign ring world. We never had character development. We never had choice. If you value either of those more? You like Destiny. If you value backstory and simplistic soldier gameplay? You like Halo. If you like all of that? Congrats, you and I are on the same side. We like both games. lol.

Reach was awesome, loved the crap out of that game. Just shows that this bungie isn't the old "real" bungie...... Now they want kids to buy silver, not have fun.
