TL;DR at the bottom.
Ok, so I've been browsing the forums recently since the update came out, and I've noticed a recurring trend among the people complaining about it. They're all talking about it like it's some expansion, when it's not. It's an update. Let me break it down for you:
In the whole of Destiny's history, only three expansions have ever been released: TDB, HoW, and TTK. That's it. That's all there is in terms of expansions. However, there have been perhaps a dozen updates now in Destiny's history, at least (I don't know the exact number but it's considerably more than the expansions). So, my question is this:
Why are all of you who are complaining treating this update like it's an expansion? It's not, it's an update. Updates are typically only meant to change game mechanics like weapon stats, subclass perk stats, and all that shebang. And that's exactly what this update did. And for the most part the changes are fine. I'm hearing good things about the weapon changes and I'm loving what's happened to the voidwalker. The improved infusion system is a big bonus too. And the popular Y1 weapons.
Essentially, the PvE content released alongside this update was just meant to be a nice little extra bit from Bungie to give you highly demanding PvE players something to bite on while the actual expansion is worked on and eventually comes (and to ensure that at least something 'new' is added within this 6 month period). But no. Not only were you guys ungrateful for bungie's little extra work, you flat out ranted about it on the forums, mere hours after it came out, and you judged it like a failed expansion when it wasn't anything of the such.
Truthfully the only thing I don't really like about this update is how PvP special ammo changes translated over into PvE. But, everything else is fine. However, after how stupidly a whole bunch of you responded to this update, I'll be seriously surprised if Bungie has the generosity to give you free PvE extras ever again. Because none of you deserve it when looking at your collective responses.
TL;DR - It's an update, not an expansion. At least be grateful for the PvE content you weren't even scheduled to get, and stop bitching. Learn the goddamn difference already.
EDIT: was honestly hoping this would be dead by now... Y'all been replying for days.
Everything here is clearly understandable, anyone who says otherwise is a -blam!-tard

8 Repliesno moments or Kingsfall completions pipe the fooook down and mute yourself!

3 Replieslol fanboy. I truly hope you keep enjoying this game till next dlc comes out (or Destiny 2).

Bungie should have made it so that the Level 42 mission in the arena was impossible to do until you reached level 330. I don't see the point in reaching 335 unless I'm missing something.

2 RepliesI'm inclined to agree but ultimately we are grinding the same content for the same gear repackaged at higher light levels. PoE challenge mode is not difficult enough - if it was as hard as the raid then it would have had staying power - I've done it three or four times now and its will destroying contemplating 9 runs every week to complete the sigils across all characters. The new strike is a joke really, although having said that the nightfall version was tricky with all the 1 shot axion bolts.

Its also free, and no new content.
-
The ttk was not a expansion it was a srinksion

Arguing the terms to use here is a wasted effort. This release earned the same treatment from Bungie as the DLC releases of the past (multiple live stream and blog posts communicating what the update/expansion/DLC would include) and was launched in the place previous updates/expansions/DLCs (namely, in the same window as The Dark Below). You can argue whether it doesn't matter because this was free, but it needs to be substantial for players as it becomes the plan for sustainability until the next full launch, whether that's this fall or next.

2 Repliesdestiny didnt have any expansions in the first place , just overpriced DLC , and this so called free update better be a part of the super overpriced 40$ DLC which wasnt that great to begin with for the price

4 RepliesEdited by ChickenHawk110: 4/14/2016 9:55:25 AMOh puhlease!! This update is ONLY to pad microtransactions. Thats it. All the "new" PvE content is bunk. The new strike uses old assets. The new PoE uses old assets. Everything is old assets except the PS exclusive sniper. 1 single weapon is actually "new". The ONLY reason Bungievision decided to install a 1:1 infusion mechanic is to allow the armour you can buy through Eververse to be actually useful, and even perhaps appealing. And of course, its not that outrageous that you can buy armour now, even though Bungievision said Eververse was for vanity items only, 3 defence rating armour isn't Pay to Win, because its only 3 defence, amirite? EDIT: I forgot to mention doing a PoE takes much longer than a typical Heroic strike and CONSISTENTLY awards very similar rewards. Take a step back and look at all of the "update" changes as objectively as possible.

Edited by jedwards: 4/14/2016 2:04:14 PMYou're definitely right about the update vs expansion stuff. However, this update was advertised as the biggest batch of content since taken King, and while this is (barely) true, a lot of people, including myself, were disappointed in how little content was actually released.

1 ReplyDoesn't make it good though, update or dlc it's still a price of crap.

8 RepliesEdited by jitsudave: 4/14/2016 12:00:32 PMI don't care what it's called. It's been 7 months. And we get this?i was done in an hour or so. And that's not a hardcore just smashing content that's someone who hasn't really played in months just taking a look. It's pathetic. Hell we didn't even get the new exotics that were in the armoury at the start of TTK

So basically this is an update, expect a change in some mechanics, but no quality and very limited (reskinned) quantity of PVE content. That's fine, because there hasn't been anything new for six months anyway so everybody will be pretty much use to it by now, and don't worry we're not getting anything new for a further 6 months.
-
The only things that I'm annoyed with are the sterling treasure glitch and special ammo thing in PvE
-
I am so glad I have waited 7 months for 2 hours of "new" content. So glad.
-
the drop rate of exclusive legendaries in the heroic playlist is very low after the update got only legendary engrams 4 hours straight over 20 strikes and nothing
-
I know! Because there´s still no content to play....

1 ReplyI can read dickead. It clearly says April update, thanks for clarifying that. It doesn't make it any less shite.

1 ReplyIt's a DESTICLE, not a FAN.
-
See the thing is people want an expansion not some stupid "update". I'm still playing the same crap I was for the last 6 months.
-
1 ReplyIf new content is created, it is an expansion.
-
I agree. Expansions usually have a name.
-
What is an expansion but an update

Your name describes it all. Muted.
