The only problem with taking off and landing is where are the imperials supposed to go to pick up their tie fighters they sure as hell aren't just parked on the snow down the hill and if you had to fly out of that hanger as the rebels you would never make it further than the door. Besides this to me is more realistic how many ground troopers do you know that are fully trained in flying Xwings or tie fighters. Exactly.
