Ok. The good and the bad. I need 2 commendations to get all set with vendor gear... better then what I was expecting... also as I could still buy 2 pieces of gear at rank 3 that rank is still worthwhile. I approve. The new vendor Weapons I am not sure of however. I honestly do not like most of them. The vanguard rocket launcher and crucible sniper are just mini versions of the G-horn and hezens vengeance respectively. On exotic upgrades... I am redoing the thorn bounty at the moment. I love the gun and I would rather waste the time earning it again then standing around praying that RNGeebus will have it this week. Does that tell you anything? That I hate and mistrust your new system so much that I am spending the hours that I could be sinking into new and enjoyable content and instead I am REDOING, FROM SCRATCH, an existing exotic bounty for a weapon I already earned and maxed, THAT I COMPLETED 2 WEEKS AGO? Proposed solution: let the Gunsmith.... er, I mean the synthesis and blue fusion rifle vendor as he has no other function in the game, sell an upgrade material that will take any existing exotic and upgrade it.

By now if you are reading the forum and reddit, I'm pretty sure not everyone agree with this skewed mechanics of yours. Here is the math done by one of the fellow Guardian:
Jack over Ice 3h 27m ago Permalink Bungie, I have 3 characters with a spread of 22 Exotics between them; of my Exotics about 88% are currently maxed and have been prior to your last Exotic Shard update, so they were upgraded under your first system which required shards/energy and materials…oh and XP, don’t forget all that XP! I am also sure that most of the guys/girls that have played since launch are in a similar boat or damn near to it. Working it out so far to reach this stage, just on Exotics alone, it has cost me: 96 Ascendant Shards, 132 Ascendant Energies, 944 various materials (Spin, Bloom etc), Roughly 131,400 Glimmer, AND a host of time grinding the same missions/strikes and bounties to get the XP to allow upgrades in the first place. Now, under your new DLC, IF I want to upgrade the armour and weapons to the new defence/attack cap AND get to the upgrade stage I am currently at, then I have to further invest: 154,000 Glimmer, 154 Strange Coins. That’s to just get them converted (as and when Xûr gives me the option?) to the higher rating! Then to reach my current level I need a further: 154 Strange Coins, 1846 various materials, 164,700 Glimmer AND not to mention all that XP over again. That’s a grand total of 318,700 Glimmer; 1846 materials and 308 Strange Coins; PLUS all that XP? You’re having a laugh right? It’s April, May, June and July’s Fool right? Good one, now what’s the real score? Because if you are serious then IMO you have just handed Destiny a slow and insidious death sentence. Good luck with your 10 year plan…I think you’ll be very lucky to make it to the end of 2015.
• Not sure about the resetting progression business.. pretty unfair on those of us who've invested the time to basically be getting the same as those who maybe haven't. I've got two Bad Juju's - one fully upgraded the other untouched. It seems silly that I can reset both but only one causes me any loss. Also Future War Cult, Dead Orbit and New Monarchy are redundant - I levelled up with FWC I think and got a couple of blue engrams - no commendation. Seeing as all of them have the same stock as before this means that was an utter waste increasing that level.

Here's my opinion on the expansion, and the current state of Destiny: it's pretty obvious to me that you guys at Bungie have no idea what you are doing with this type of game and are just making things up as you go along. There is no "10 year plan" you're just reacting to issues and complaints as they come up. There are some pretty fundamental flaws with Destiny IMO, the main one being the ridiculous levelling system post level 20 and the lack of level 30 gear at launch. Want to max out your character? You have to pray to RNGesus for the drops and wear the same gear and look exactly the same as every other 30. Then you add another option with the Iron Banner armour (great!) and barely 3 weeks later render this gear redundant with the level increase in The Dark Below. This is the most dumb decision. Raising the level cap when the game has only been out 3 months? I've barely had time to level my IB weapons and now I'll have to scrap them in favour of new weapons if I want to remain competitive? Why not add a bunch of new 30 armour with different unique perks so we can customise our characters to how we like instead of putting us all on an endless grind for the same gear? Why render all our coveted legendary weapons useless in such a short period of time? Don't get me started on the sprawling mess that all the different currencies and materials have become: glimmer, marks (2 types), energy, shards, exotic shards, commendations, spinmetal, helium, spirit bloom, and relic iron. Trying to explain all this to a new player is practically impossible (I tried) [Edit] I forgot strange coins and motes of light. That's 13! Add radiant energy and radiant shards from TDB and that's 15! FIFTEEN different currencies :-/ If this trend continues and you raise the level cap again with House of Wolves then I'm out. I have the season pass but I won't be purchasing any further DLC after that. You guys absolutely nailed the shooting mechanics and the feel of the weapons, character movement etc, but are really floundering when it comes to making the other stuff a cohesive, satisfying experience. [Edit2] don't get me wrong, I love Destiny. I wouldn't have played for 450+ hours if I didn't. You got so much right it's just frustrating to see the bad decisions changing the direction of the game.

    • Resetting progress on the exotics we have already leveled should not be a choice we have to make to keep these weapons/armor relevant. So many players have invested time and resources into these weapons, and to have to throw that away and do it all again for the weapon to stay competitive, we feel betrayed and discouraged from playing any further. I'm not asking for instant or free upgrades, and I come bearing suggestions. Instead of a reset, add 2/3 more upgrade nodes on the end of current exotics. By doing this, you could remove Xur from the equation in a number of ways and for several good reasons. This could also remove the RNG from the process by involving other Tower NPCs. There are many good options to consider here that don't involve us having to reset these items completely, and I hope you take the time to look these over. Adding extra upgrade nodes to the exotics, either outright or with a purchased item, is the best idea I can think of. This will allow us to stay at our current light and damage levels, as well as maintain any unique effects we have earned, and still be at a power level capable of the new level 30 daily and nightfall challenges. This also allows us to continue using these items in those activities so that we can earn XP towards those new nodes and light 32/attack 320, instead of having to rely only on swapping them in when we turn in bounties because they are weak again. Xur should not be involved in the process at all for so many reasons. Only having him available on the weekends has been frustrating since launch, and now you want to tie him to more interactions? Please don't do this. What about PlayStation exclusive exotics? Is Xur ever going to sell the "upgrade" for those, or will they not be an option, much like his normal inventory? Not to mention the way he functions entirely on RNG. What if, as has been proven with a few select armor pieces, he never sells certain weapon "upgrades" that are on his inventory list? Speaking of things he has never sold, as someone still trying to get Heart of Praxic Fire, I resent that exotic engrams no longer appear to be in his inventory in that screenshot, but I digress. There are several solutions here, the best in my opinion is outlined early in my post. Adding nodes to the current exotics removes Xur and the "upgrades" from the process entirely, making for an overall smoother transition of our current exotics to the new standard power level. Alternatively, you could make the gunsmith more than an ammo vendor and class leaders more often visited by placing the weapon and armor "upgrade items" on those NPCs, respectively. If you are absolutely dead set on Xur being involved then at least make him a permanent addition to the tower, with a 7 day rotation on his normal inventory and an option similar to "Reforge" from the recent Iron Banner that adds the new nodes to your current exotics. We shouldn't have to hope and pray that the exotic we are wanting to upgrade will be there this week. All options should be available to people who want to take their exotic items to the next level. The gunsmith could carry "primary, secondary, and heavy upgrade" items, very similar to his current ammo packs, that when used add nodes to the exotic equipped in that slot. The class vendors could hold all 6 of the current exotics for each class, or just a single "armor upgrade" item. The weapons could be split among faction vendors, 6 each for the 18 weapons available that this would apply to. In both cases these could be purchased with the marks that these vendors currently accept, making them more than material exchange currency after the DLC. I'm sure there are other great suggestions in this thread as well, these are just some I have come up with and seen in threads the past 12 hours. Regardless, if they must stay as "upgrade items" that we have to purchase, at the very least don't reset our exotics' progress. Make the "upgrades" we buy from these vendors add the extra nodes I mentioned earlier. Don't charge us glimmer or coins for an "upgrade" that resets all the glimmer and materials we put into the item already, just so that we can spend more time, glimmer, and materials on leveling it up all over again. That just isn't right. I apologize to any who made it this far, this ended up much longer than I intended when I started writing. Those who took the time, thank you. If you didn't, I don't blame you, but it's not a page of ranting. I only hope that something in here resonates strong enough to break through the noise and make a change in time for it to matter.

If something isn't done about this I cannot foresee myself continuing to play destiny the way I used to. I simply refuse to just accept this as the way things will be. I will play on the 9nth, and then again in "january" In the mean time I have games and even mmos who aren't interested in continuously screwing over their players and dreaming up ways to artificially increase play time. It sincerely hurts my feelings to learn you don't give two blams about all the time work and effort I put into this game. I'm not going to make a suggestion on how to right this wrong, thats not my job, I'm not a developer or a game designer I'm just a mere humble player. But I know this much, something needs to be done or changed. I think that is a fairly obvious. And if this player outcry, isn't a red flag you need to slow down and listen a little closer. If this isn't a red flag I don't know what is, and all the hope for the future of destiny, all the faith I have in bungie is only worth as much as my time is worth to you. The truth is I was worried about going down with a sinking ship. The truth is the ship has already sank. You guys need to pull off a serious hat trick if you want redeem yourselves in the eyes of your loyal fans. Or at the very least this one. Perhaps what I have written is a little dramatic. But at this point all we can do is pray that you get the message, that you truly are listening. I personally need a sign of good faith, some proof that you can hear us, that you can hear me and everyone else here. We may only be able to type but know this, I if not "us" are screaming. We are yelling until our lungs burst and we are typing until our fingers bleed. But we still haven't given up on you yet. But with every passing week, it gets harder and harder to hold on. Deej, Bungie, M.E. Chung said and I quote "It's really exciting that this time it's a two way street" Now more than ever is the time to prove it. Sincerely, a loyal and long time fan.

      • Problems with the changes: They encourage me NOT to play your game. I am encouraged NOT to level Crucible or Vanguard to new ranks. The optimal solution is to get almost to a rank up. get some bounties and SIT ON THEM until the 9th, then let some other sucker let me know if the commendations are RNG or not, so I do not waste my rank up. I am encouraged NOT to spend coins on Xur, as the exotics he sells next week will be the more powerful versions. Wait. Xur doesn't have anything good this week anyway beyond ammo synthesis. I am encouraged NOT to run strikes, patrol missions and crucible, because I do not want to get accidentally rank up my faction standing. I am encouraged NOT to rank up my faction (FWC, DO and NM) levels, as I have no idea if I get commendations from them. What am I encouraged to do? Farm glimmer ( takes an hour and a half on a bad day to max from nothing) Troll the forums Speculate

        • Exempting the raid (which less than 10% of players will ever see, PROVEN statistic, don't argue) 80% of Dark Below takes place in original game environs. It's 90% if you count the fact only two (TWO) enemy types were added. Don't kid yourself, renaming an acolyte is not a new enemy type. Those two new guys? Fancy wizard (props, she looks cool) and a re-skinned Hydra...so maybe only one new enemy. Hmm. You added, by my count, about five to seven truly genuinely unique rooms to the game. Seraphim vault was amazing by the way (really! Awesome look to it). Amazingly short too, sadly. What an incredible waste of time and resources on YOUR part. You listened? A two-hour story (strikes and all) is not an improvement. The first DLC mission isn't even 10 minutes long for Christ's Sake! Regardless how the players you 'left behind' feel, those of us who invested once again in your product have been burned once again. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. The game could be so much more and I'll continue playing the RNG game until boredom (which will be much sooner than I planned it seems)...but my wallet is permanently closed and I will ensure those of my fellow gamers won't make the mistake of opening theirs in the first place. Terrible, terrible, terrible waste of an opportunity and what was a reputation for solid development. You know folks complain about Activision...but Activision has funded enormously successful games over the years. How you have managed, with the incredible budget you were gven, to produce such detritus is beyond my understanding. Props for extracting 200% of the value from the consumer I suppose. Even Activision has higher standards than this.

        • nothing but stupid and slow down tactics for an unplanned game. get lucky to get the gun firstly cause by my count on any raid strike or lobby you rewards the poor gamers 1st and more. then you have to get lucky an find energy then you need to get a core as well ? are these in chests random legend drops rewards for strikes???? anyway get them then level it up lol no chance its soooooo slow i already have 9 guns needing energy and i have enough to level 1 up but you want me to use a sep level up system just for this gear meaning i might never get it fully upgraded as rewards are random and almost no set way to earn a single thing http://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/82561919/0/0/1 change reward systems they suck and only help the crap gamers its mostly welfare rewards i see

        • Exotics aside - yes. Exotics entirely aside. Think about what was done with the Legendary weapons. I looked at the perks and setups (impact, reload, stability, etc) for all of the new Legendary gear that is sold by Vanguard and Crucible, and frankly I thought it was extremely disappointing. I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that others may also be bothered on how they were overlooked entirely. The new expectation is that Legendary weapons are easier to get than exotics, therefore whichever old Legendary weapon should be easily discarded for purchase and use of a new one with higher damage and different attributes should be fine. I greatly disagree. Many of the legendary weapons I already have are a joy to play. I like the way they are set up. At max level, they are now much less effective than their "new" counterparts, and the style of play for the new weapons will be different than that of the old. The Devil You Don't has a 5 round magazine - what was wrong with my original Devil You Know? Even if it has less impact, I enjoy the idea of putting more, and more accurate, shots down range to accomplish the same thing. Its a player choice. The same could be said of the new fusion rifles - none of them have charge times that are on level with the older set, though they have higher impact. This fundamentally changes the playing experience and alienates the old set based on damage alone. These are 2 simple examples. What prevented you from just adding an extra node or two of upgrades to the current weapons? Even if it did take something bought from Xur, or some sort of quest item to unlock, this would be much more preferable than making our current gear less useful and obligating people to switch to the new weapons, while discarding the old ones. Newer isn't always better. I'd think that many players would have a point of pride with using weapons that are no longer available for purchase! You seem to have overlooked your core player's armament and focused on the loudest voices.

With respect, because you are listening, I'm not sure this was the best way to go about things. Adding new weapons is great, but you do realize your customers put hundreds of hours in upgrading their weapons. Now you say well all your legendaries are useless and we have to start over just for a DLC with little content. Who thought this was a good idea? Not for a minute did you think people would hate this? Just my opinion, pumped for DLC, hope it does not disappoint

              • Exotic reset is fine. What bugs me about it is that all players who have invested no time in this game are practically at the same point as players who maxed out all their exotics. I think this is unfair and there should be some reward for maxing your exotic. What also bugs me is that xur his inventory is RANDOM. Why do you guys put more rng in this game? And why do we have to wait till the weekend to upgrade it? It doesnt make sense.
