1 ReplyThis will be the true test to see if bungie is listening to these forums or simply doesn't care. The number of people against this (myself included) is staggering. 1 day and thousands of posts outlining why this is a bad idea. Yes a few are for it. A very select few. Are you really listening? Because the people have spoken. Loudly.

I'm going to stick with this to see how things turn out, but I won't lie, this exotic reset thing feels like a kick in the teeth. Yes its optional, but it's basically saying that if I want a true exotic exotic I've got to start over again levelling, farming, buying etc. I've not complained once about any changes made with updates yet as I've seen this game making efforts to balance, grow and include all types of gamer. But this one feels like the players who have been working toward getting their favourite exotics maxed are being shoved aside in favour of making the game apparently "fairer" to new players. I'm sure there are plenty more ways this balancing and tuning could be done better, as many people who have posted here have already suggested.

I don't see the fairness of a base extoic and fully level extoic getting the same upgrade to max lv. Shouldn't be that way.

39 RepliesIt's pretty obvious that devs didn't sit down in a meeting and write on a dry erase board, "How can we screw over our fanbase?" and then go to town on ideas. The changes coming are designed to help give the game more depth, more balance, and to help restore the value to maxed out exotic and legendary weapons. Frankly, they've been too easy to get. And they haven't all felt that powerful. They took note of that feedback and are making changes to compensate. Good for them. But people resist change, even good change. Just because it's going to mess up the system they've got going right now. I, and many other players, welcome the changes knowing they're well informed and well needed. Looking forward to the next chapter of Destiny, eager to jump into it in just a few more days.

Don't have to progress reset please Bungie just have it add stuff this reset thing is so bad also the weekly heroic should not get bumped two levels but the nightfall should

But theres a 1% er thing going on with ppl like myself who have no problem spending hours grinding to achieve something minor. I just dont like that all my hardwork ive put in being annulled instantly to achieve a higher level. When someone who has done nothing and just has to start upgrading. I get that im in the minority. But i worked really hard leveling up all my gear. Put ALOT of time in. 330+ shards that are allready useless. You capped my glimmer count. So i saved codex etc to increase my glim glam to 150k ish. Ive got 4-600 of each mark. Every telemetry. But all my hard work is turned to peanuts. Before the purchase ability of planet resources. I had 200+ of each. Need bigger vaults.. So all in all im ok with the gear reset. I guess id be happy if a conversion system was implemented for me to turn in say 25 ascendant energy for 1 radiant energy. Etc. I would also like an option. To speed up my upgrade process. 50 or whatever strange coins to keep previous upg or 10 exotic shards to skip relelvin to where your at. Or whatever. Cuz ive got about 100+ coins .. Just give your hardcore player base a path as well as letting the casuals be content. Again. Just embrace this amazing game for what it is. An fps mmo lite. Mmo has alot if bad things attached. But theres alot of good in there too. Strikes can have mechanics too other than just raids :) Ppl will adapt.

At the very least give us back what we dished out on the weapons, throw us a damn bone here bungie. We have grinded since day 1! I understand that resetting the weapon makes it stronger, but if your not going to compensate players for the endless grind of a game you created then I see no real point in this so called "progression".

The idea of paying Xur to upgrade my exotics with Exotic Shards and Glimmer is perfectly acceptable and reasonable (though, forewarning would probably make a lot of people much happier.) The idea of leveling up the same weapon that I already leveled up is just nonsense. It's retreading old ground. There's zero joy in the upgrade process, because I've already done it. In fact, it's a constant reinforcement of a negative emotion - as if - something has been taken away from me. There's no way that I, or anybody else, is going to enjoy re-leveling the same gear. Fun factor = zero.

While I don't like the fact that we will have to re grind all our old exotics [b]and[/b] our new exotics and legendarys. I dont like the fact that Xur will only be able to upgrade certine exotics each week. We've all been screwed by RNGezus in the past, and I can't help but think it'll happen agine with this. "What's that you want your thorn upgraded because its what you use the most, well you had to wait 3 or 4 weeks before Xur had it as an option." The worst part is that during the IB you could rerole weapons you had bought or won previously, it wasn't randomly selected each day. So whay not just do this? I could be as simple as going to Xur with your 7k glimmer, exotic shard, and an exotic that you want upgraded equiped.

As a "casual" that has played more Destiny than most other games combined... Very disappointed with the DLC update. The idea of not only losing the progress I've already had to grind out, but losing that progress every time a new DLC drops is pretty much a deal breaker. The biggest disappointment... (which has been articulated very well on here and Reddit): There's literally no difference in turning in a fully upgraded exotic vs. an untouched exotic. All that grinding (which was the most tedious part of a very fun game) was worthless, especially if we've only recently completed the upgrade. Really hoping Bungie listens to the community feedback on this one.

Why not leave the weapon leveling system the same and add the exotic shard to further progress the weapons\armor. Just unlock another tier no new perks just another damage\armor tier that needs upgraded.

REally ??? Did you and Bungie even think about all the players who put in countless hours and days to max out their current exotics??? I made it my goal to get all my weapons maxxed out before the DLC came out i thought i would be rewarded for that effort so that i could use those maxxed out weapons in the DLC and have an advantage... What you are basically saying is i screwed myself for doing all that ? A person with a brand new exotic who put no time into leveling it up wouldnt care to reset their exotic but what about those who took pride in leveling up their weapons? That hard work should be worth something and i must tell you i am very disappointed that this is how you and Bungie decided to implement this Exotic Upgrade Path. What a slap in the face to the dedicated players... I love this game but you guys really did a poor job with this one... Not a happy customer at the moment... Those maxxed out exotics should not be fully reset like the ones that have no upgrades in them...

2 RepliesWell, while I understand the reasoning, the way it was announced and implemented, that I am not so keen about. I don't like how older legendarys become obsolete, even the raid gear. I don't like how I spent an exotic shard to level up some gear two days ago, and now have to spend two more to get it up to the "next level". I don't like how I will have to level "next level" exotics all over again. So, my humble suggestion: Fully upgraded pre-dlc exotics should not cost an additional shard to upgrade. 50% of your item XP should transfer via the upgrade Legendarys should have a similar option to upgrade to keep our favorite weapons relevant

1 ReplySo last week I got Gjallarhorn for the first time which I was super excited about and I've been using it exclusively all week to level it up. Even with all the telemetry I've been using its been a slow slog, but I've been persevering anyway. I've now made some progress and I'm now very nearly up to the final upgrade just in time to spend 7 strange coins on a shard from Xur this weekend.... then I read this news :( Seriously Bungie??? All the positive changes you've been making to help reduce the grind in this game and you go and ruin that in one fell swoop. Anyone that says you don't necessarily need to upgrade the gear well that's bullshit. The reason we all continue to play the game is almost exclusively for better loot (its certainly not to relive the amazing story for the 100th time). No one is going to be happy to keep using their exotic weapon at its current level knowing it can be much better if only they succumb to the grind. Essentially what Bungie is saying is once per week I can re-grind my exotic gear and if I have to do that for every exotic I own that's at least going to keep me playing until DLC 2 House of Wolves comes out and then guess what - I need to re-grind the same gear for a THIRD time because the cap will increase again! I was really looking forward to The Dark Below and now all I can think about is do I really want to spend another week of my gaming time upgrading Gjallarhorn again. Probably not. A number of great games have come out over the past few months that I've yet to play (with lots more coming in 2015) and it may be time for me to move on to something new.

Any news if next week Xur will sell original or beefy versions of exotics

DeeJ here is my issue with these changes. In order to continue using the gun and armor i like, i have to wait for xur to sell the upgrade for it. This shouldnt be the case, we should be able to purchase our exotic upgrades from the gunsmith anytime, or be able to choose the upgrade we want from xur but at a limit of one or two per week. I suggest going with the gunsmith because then people can get upgrades even if they work weekends.

Questions and comments: -Will the new legendary gear from the vendors be better than Vog raid gear? If so that is insulting to your fans who have worked to get thay raid gear -I hate the idea of exotic items resetting progress. A damage node or 2 should be added on top of current progress. -Whats the point of a new type of material to upgrade raid gear? Not the worst thing in this expansion , but i still don't like it -Why do we have to wait a month plus for hard mode? As someone who still plays every day and really looks forward to enjoying it for a long time to come, most of these changes seem to point toward new ways for us to be required to grind. We are comaining that releveling dozens of exotics will take a very long time, but that seems to be the point. Same with raid gear only being upgraded from other raid gear. Its going to require more trips through the raid to upgrade. Bungie, it's okay if i get my gear upgraded and play destiny for an hour or so each day rather than 3 hours. Just don't make it boring and then reset my progress after im done!

DeeJ the VOG is still going to be one of the best content in this way and should have some way to get it to 32 involving crota raid equipment. Don't make it completely obsolete you lose a lot of play time.

Deej, I keep hearing that the exchange from old weapon to new through Xur will cost 7000 glimmer on top of the exotic shard, but the Bungie brief does not mention this at all, can you confirm please.

If I put an exotic shard rn into my gun well I have to use another exotic shard after the update to max it out again? If so I used 3 exotic shards now -.-

I haven't complained too much, especially not here in the forums. I've just gone with the flow and trusted that eventually the mechanics would get squared away. And in many ways they have. Slowly but surely. I preordered the limited edition because of Bungie's pedigree and my love of past work, and despite a few missteps, I've maintained that outlook. I was really looking forward to the expansion and was happy I held a season pass. All that changed today, in a way that's hard to describe. It's like a curtain was pulled back and I could see the corporate meeting where some PhD in human psychology explained methods for how to milk the most hours out of players; how to put the smallest carrot on the longest stick and still keep people playing. It hurt to come to that realization, especially because I like you guys. I have immensely enjoyed collecting exotics. I have all but 3 weapons and I'm only missing 4 or 5 armor pieces across my 3 classes. About half are fully upgraded and I was excited about slowly maxing out the rest. I'm a completionist, it's what I do. And it's what has kept me playing despite repetitive game play, being stuck on lvl 29 with my main for 8 weeks, and really frustrating lag in the crucible. I want to collect, upgrade and show off my complete set. But the announcement today just made me feel sick. I feel like I wasted so much of my time. I don't really want to play the expansion now, to bother re-leveling my gear, because I don't see the end. What a precedent, huh? I now know that in order to max out, xp will just get reset again when the next expansion comes, and then the next, ad infinitum. It turns me off to the good things about the game, like the new content. I really hope Bungie changes this before it's implemented. If not, I for one will probably write-off the season pass as a sunk cost. It's just not worth my time and it kills my desire to keep playing. I think you may need to find a new psychologist, one who understands the real meaning of the term "player investment." Warm Regards, Superflious Edit: I've seen a lot of fantastic ideas on this forum that wouldn't irk me the same way the proposed mechanic does (and it doesn't take too much reading to find the good ideas). Adding new upgrade nodes to existing tree, scaling time to re-upgrade based on level at time of reset, using an exotic shard or other consumable for each +10 upgrade (I. E. give it a green border instead of yellow) and resetting only the last 3 upgrade nodes rather than all the perks, etc. Any of these ideas would be more palatable. Another good idea I saw was using the gunsmith rather than xur (still use xur to buy exotic shards/new exotics, but give a more reliable way to upgrade them, rather than even more RNG). One idea that I do not like is requiring a maxed weapon before being able to reset. Prestiging is a blight on gaming IMHO. Also, most of us do understand the proposed mechanic is optional and not forced; the problem is it actually punishes people who took the time and effort to already upgrade their gear by negating all the work. That's the opposite of player investment.
