Okay so what games have actually had a real life impact on you as a person? Games that left such a mark on you, you can tell a story about almost every single thing you've done in that game from the time you started. A game you got so involved with, you often times blurred the lines between your real life and virtual life. Something so fascinating and exciting, you remember the very first moments you stepped into the great adventure.
I have two.
First is Pokemon, more specifically Pokemon yellow. I will never forget that little yellow shit following me around. The feeling I had running through my body when I first started the game was something I rarely feel. SOO much excitement and bewilderment. Pokemon became my life for years. I had to have everything Pokemon. As the years dragged on, I became less interested in things not related to the game, but my passion for each new game remained. I am WAY more excited for ORAS to come out than any 24 year old should be.
Second is, some of you probably guessed it, World of Warcraft. I was there from the very beginning. The bonds I formed on that game were stronger than the bonds I had with 90% of my friends. And the great thing is, very best RL friends played with me. It almost seemed like we became even better "best" friends through playing WoW together. The three of us, leading raids and getting gladiator titles, formed a bond that has kept us together for years and years outside of WoW. In my opinion, no game on the current market even comes close to offering everything WoW does. It is the most complete and well-rounded game I have ever experienced, and because of that I had to force myself to quit the game 9 months ago. It was impossible for me to play the game in moderation. Each and every spare moment I had in life, went to WoW.
Unfortunately, I haven't been able to experience the same feeling of starting this awesome adventure with any game other than those two. I thought Destiny might have had a chance, but nothing came of it. Destiny is a wonderful game, but there are several very disappointing things about it. With that said, I am waiting to buy my first CoD game to see if I can potentially experience the same rush I have been looking for from a new game for years. I highly doubt I'll get the feeling from CoD, but I'll keep searching and waiting until I do.

System Shock (the first one . . .NOT System Shock 2). Came out in 1994 for the PC. From Origin Systems and Looking Glass Studios. Awesome space station survival horror - shooter . . . http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/System_Shock. Best ever. Check it out. Haunted my life.

Pokémon, Super Smash Bros, old school Mario, Tekken, WoW, GTA: San Andreas, Sims (nothing funnier than killing sims off as a child), Skyrim, Mass Effect series, AC Brotherhood, Borderlands, Dragon Age, Infamous, Halo Reach, Red Dead Redemption. (Tried to make this almost like a time line). Most influential would probably be Mass Effect 2.

1 ReplyChrono Trigger changed the way I looked at video games. I felt like I had to pick my party carefully to work with how I played (Chrono. Frog, and Robo). Since then I've took a more serious take on video games. Mostly I was just there to mash buttons before hand. After that I found it more entertaining to take a personal stock in them.

Edited by ThimbaDM: 11/4/2014 3:14:58 PMFor me it was propably Pokemon Blue that got me interested for games a lot more in general, eventhough I already had Sega Genesis 32b but it was more like whatever for me back then. The real deal for me was the first Metal Gear Solid for Playstation. That shit just was something else and I think I played it luke 30 times over and over.. I've always been more of a story person so that game made me realize it big time. And I also learned A LOT of english from it because I had a dictionary right next to me all the time. I was badass when I english classes started in 3rd grade and I fcking wrecked everyone with my mad english skills lol. But that was waaay back. EDIT; I think I actually flipped those games. MGS was first but Pokemon got me to these RPG games more. It's so long time ago.

Project Gotham Racing 3 and Forza Motorsports 1 & 2. Why? Because I was involved in making the games as a Microsoft Game Studios partner. The audio of a lot of the exotic cars was recorded on my chassis dynamometer...with me behind the wheel.

super mario 1, duck hunt, and that track and field game with the running pad. playing that game at 4 years old changed my life for the better. it's been a wild ride after that!

I met my wife Co tanking bwd, so yeah, I'd say WoW takes the cake for changing my life. Think some of my first words to her were, "So yeah, this guy is going to eat me, taunt him the second he spits me out" A relationship based on sharing aggro :p
