What game(s) have literally changed your life?

Okay so what games have actually had a real life impact on you as a person? Games that left such a mark on you, you can tell a story about almost every single thing you've done in that game from the time you started. A game you got so involved with, you often times blurred the lines between your real life and virtual life. Something so fascinating and exciting, you remember the very first moments you stepped into the great adventure. I have two. First is Pokemon, more specifically Pokemon yellow. I will never forget that little yellow shit following me around. The feeling I had running through my body when I first started the game was something I rarely feel. SOO much excitement and bewilderment. Pokemon became my life for years. I had to have everything Pokemon. As the years dragged on, I became less interested in things not related to the game, but my passion for each new game remained. I am WAY more excited for ORAS to come out than any 24 year old should be. Second is, some of you probably guessed it, World of Warcraft. I was there from the very beginning. The bonds I formed on that game were stronger than the bonds I had with 90% of my friends. And the great thing is, very best RL friends played with me. It almost seemed like we became even better "best" friends through playing WoW together. The three of us, leading raids and getting gladiator titles, formed a bond that has kept us together for years and years outside of WoW. In my opinion, no game on the current market even comes close to offering everything WoW does. It is the most complete and well-rounded game I have ever experienced, and because of that I had to force myself to quit the game 9 months ago. It was impossible for me to play the game in moderation. Each and every spare moment I had in life, went to WoW. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to experience the same feeling of starting this awesome adventure with any game other than those two. I thought Destiny might have had a chance, but nothing came of it. Destiny is a wonderful game, but there are several very disappointing things about it. With that said, I am waiting to buy my first CoD game to see if I can potentially experience the same rush I have been looking for from a new game for years. I highly doubt I'll get the feeling from CoD, but I'll keep searching and waiting until I do.

  • I think we're twins? Pokemon yellow and WoW were the first 2 things to pop into my head as soon as I read the title. Pokemon yellow because it was the first game I ever played and I've played every pokemon game since then. And I'm damn proud of it. Like you said having that little yellow cutie following you was just awesome. I still play it on an emulator every now and then just for the nostalgia. And WoW was my first online game. It's what got me started in the whole online gaming thing. I've met so many amazing people on that game. Some have even carried on to other games. Sounds kinda weird saying a video game has impacted my life haha

  • There have been a few games that have shaped the way I look at video games. Some examples are halo and bioshock/Bioshock infinite. Those two games had epic stories to tell and told them with great gameplay. It made me realize that video games have truly taken us to a whole new level of art/entertainment similar to books, music, sports, movies, art, photography, etc.

For life changing I'd say Pokemon blue, cause it was the first game I owned and I guess it started my love of rpgs. If my cartridge hadn't gone through the wash I'd probably still play it on occasion (I still use a rom but not as often as if I would have it on gameboy). Without the game I wouldn't have enjoyed the anime as much and in turn I would not have been into the card game as much either. And having that game also led me to pursuing Nintendo handhelds - only up to the DS, now I'm with the Vita. My second is Dark Souls, because of this game I found Marcus "epic name bro" which then led me to Northernlion which now makes up a lot of who I am - on youtube and twitch. As well as that I also know everything about that game and have watched so many others enjoy the game. It is also responsible for bringing me back to gaming after I became more casual because I didn't have any gamer friends 'irl'

Halo: Combat Evolved. When I was young, I never played games. Yes, I had a Nintendo and a Playstation, but I didn't care for the games. I was too worried about the next hot wheels or getting more Army men to stage a war. But, when my dad walked in with the original Xbox and Halo: Combat Evolved one day after school, the box art was AMAZING. I could just tell it was an amazing game. Again, when I was young, my dad and I didn't have the best relationship. Once we found out that Halo: Combat Evolved was co-op, father and son took off. Since the day we began playing Halo me and him have never been better. Both of us were intrigued because of the AWESOME plasma grenade! From shooting elites, to punching grunts, that game was the best in my opinion. So, in this case, I'd say this changed my life because I got to spend time with my dad while playing this awesome game! No matter what game comes out, no matter if it's 60fps, no matter if the graphics are sharp, Halo: Combat Evolved is my favorite game!

          • I would say Call of Duty MW2 and Black Ops 1. Those two games I played very competitively doing many tournaments on competitive websites for prize money. If I never met all those players back during the day then I probably wouldn't be gaming as of today, because I only use the PS4 to play with my PSN buddies. In short, because of the people I met on CoD I keep playing games. Also, something else I noticed as I was gaming competitively was that I became more focused in other aspects of my life too. It's almost like my personality shifted to become a perfectionist. It's like you focus so hard on a video game to practice, perfect, and compete. That same focus starts to apply to other parts of your life like your career.

          • I agree with many I have come across but would like to add the Shin Magami Tenshi : Persona series to the list. Nothing like trying to figure out what you are at your core and how to make it work to make you better.

          • Fable 2. I know people give it shit but it was the first thing like it I had ever played for years that's all I talked about and played, I beat that game 15 TIMES!!! That is more then I have beaten any game, and every experience I had while playing that will hold a special place in my Memories. Last is... Fallout: New Vegas. After the dissapointment for my most over hyped game ever. Fable 3 I was devastated and was looking for a game to cry on its shoulder, and then I went over my friends house and I saw him playing this game that I saw gameplay clips of but never bothered to care cause i thought the game looked like shit and I thought fable 3 would be 10X better, I also remembered Angry Joe comparing Fallout 3 to fable...but I never actually watched someone play before cause I thought this (and Oblivion) looked scary. He wouldn't shut up about how amazing it was, so I was like what the hell why not, I got nothing else to play :(. After leaving his house, I went to Blockbuster and rented it and when I actually played the game, within the first hour my 13 year old mind was blown, this game gave me absolute freedom, I could create my own character, join different factions, meet new people, kill those people, and explore, romance, get companions, be a badass. at the time I never knew that this was all I want in a game and since then new Vegas has remained my all time favorite game. and I always compare it to other RPGs. :)

          • Fallout 3 is by far the single best gaming experience I've ever had in my life. If I could,I would wipe all memory of it just to experience it for the first time all over again.
