Okay so what games have actually had a real life impact on you as a person? Games that left such a mark on you, you can tell a story about almost every single thing you've done in that game from the time you started. A game you got so involved with, you often times blurred the lines between your real life and virtual life. Something so fascinating and exciting, you remember the very first moments you stepped into the great adventure.
I have two.
First is Pokemon, more specifically Pokemon yellow. I will never forget that little yellow shit following me around. The feeling I had running through my body when I first started the game was something I rarely feel. SOO much excitement and bewilderment. Pokemon became my life for years. I had to have everything Pokemon. As the years dragged on, I became less interested in things not related to the game, but my passion for each new game remained. I am WAY more excited for ORAS to come out than any 24 year old should be.
Second is, some of you probably guessed it, World of Warcraft. I was there from the very beginning. The bonds I formed on that game were stronger than the bonds I had with 90% of my friends. And the great thing is, very best RL friends played with me. It almost seemed like we became even better "best" friends through playing WoW together. The three of us, leading raids and getting gladiator titles, formed a bond that has kept us together for years and years outside of WoW. In my opinion, no game on the current market even comes close to offering everything WoW does. It is the most complete and well-rounded game I have ever experienced, and because of that I had to force myself to quit the game 9 months ago. It was impossible for me to play the game in moderation. Each and every spare moment I had in life, went to WoW.
Unfortunately, I haven't been able to experience the same feeling of starting this awesome adventure with any game other than those two. I thought Destiny might have had a chance, but nothing came of it. Destiny is a wonderful game, but there are several very disappointing things about it. With that said, I am waiting to buy my first CoD game to see if I can potentially experience the same rush I have been looking for from a new game for years. I highly doubt I'll get the feeling from CoD, but I'll keep searching and waiting until I do.

1 ReplyHave a few choices and reasons behind them.. Gran Turismo 2 was a strong one that helped propel my love of cars and racing. Even when the ps2 was out, GT2 was a mainstay til getting deep into GT4. This series changed my view and feel of what kind of racing games I like. Need for speed was ok but after pro street, completely turned me off. Dirt hasn't been too bad, the older Colin McCrae games had more sim feel, but dirt wasn't a complete fail. However, always come back to gt/forza. I like both, they each have their awesome points, and seeing how currently I'm on the xbox, forza does a decent job of being a specific franchise sim. Final Fantasy 7 and Legend of Dragoon helped with getting into RPGs. FF7 is still one of the best stories I've came across, and their equip system still remains to be one of the best. Legend of Dragoon, however short, was also decent. Those, Fable (lost chapters edition), and Skyrim have been my best RPG experiences so far. I've tried a lot, but not many can get close to what I liked from those four. But those helped with the desire to actually feel the story of a game, to feel like the progress you made is groundbreaking, making the patience and dedication that much rewarding. In a lot of sense, helping to build patience as a gamer. Also to go along with experiencing the story and patience, would be the metal gear series. Those bit at your patience, atleast for me. The first metal gear on nes and MGS4 (on hardest difficulty) were nail biting, both anger and excitement. Snake eater wasn't bad either. However, it was the gameplay mechanics and story telling that made it interesting for me. Halo 3/ CoD4/ Gears Of War got me into shooters. Didn't care much for them before. But some friends talked me into trying them. So went back to each of there earlier games to get a better sense. Will always like Halo, will prob get MCC for good ol times sake. CoD, fell off of it after MW3. Could never get as deep into them like MW, MW2, World at War. I personally believe BO2 killed zombies, what was once fun, they overloaded it with too many interactive stuff. Took some of the bare survival aspects and put it towards fun/ story. And ironically, with Halo, comes my opinion on Destiny. Yes, it's a decent shooter on my list, don't see me leaving anytime soon. Yes it has it's flaws, but every game does. What I like is the playing with friends, having weapons that I can level. Sure, might have some nights where a bounty or two is done, then just watch tv for a night. But the patience factor is there and that's what I like. And finally, the horror genre. RE1 and RE2, classics in my book. Silent hill, couldn't really get into. RE3, though not bad, didn't drive me insane to do countless playthroughs like RE2 did (lone survivor mode/playing as Hunk was a different experience). Dead Space 1 and 2 however, showed me what a horror game is, with the visceral gore as a reminder of what you're getting yourself into. Those are the games that shaped my gaming path, and in some ways created part of the road called life. Currently I work in a parts dept for a dealership. Though not my favorite brand, it allows me to follow through with my passion. Hell, Gran Turismo and Forza (sim portion) helped with memorizing brands, models, driving characteristics, even all apllied theories to real world driving situations.

Metal Gear Solid Talk about a rich storyline, it was awesome.

Ff7 and loz:ot. I was 8 when ff7 came out and fell in love with adventure style games. Shortly after OoT came out. These two started my gaming "career". MGS on ps1 turned me on to the action/tactical genre

I would say that if I had to say one game that just left me in awe and stunned me would be bio shock infinite with its great script and ending.

Megaman Battle Network 3 for Gameboy advance = my first video game. I never played Pokémon, MMBN is so underrated. Halo 3 = my first xbox live game. It's what introduced me to online play.
