Okay so what games have actually had a real life impact on you as a person? Games that left such a mark on you, you can tell a story about almost every single thing you've done in that game from the time you started. A game you got so involved with, you often times blurred the lines between your real life and virtual life. Something so fascinating and exciting, you remember the very first moments you stepped into the great adventure.
I have two.
First is Pokemon, more specifically Pokemon yellow. I will never forget that little yellow shit following me around. The feeling I had running through my body when I first started the game was something I rarely feel. SOO much excitement and bewilderment. Pokemon became my life for years. I had to have everything Pokemon. As the years dragged on, I became less interested in things not related to the game, but my passion for each new game remained. I am WAY more excited for ORAS to come out than any 24 year old should be.
Second is, some of you probably guessed it, World of Warcraft. I was there from the very beginning. The bonds I formed on that game were stronger than the bonds I had with 90% of my friends. And the great thing is, very best RL friends played with me. It almost seemed like we became even better "best" friends through playing WoW together. The three of us, leading raids and getting gladiator titles, formed a bond that has kept us together for years and years outside of WoW. In my opinion, no game on the current market even comes close to offering everything WoW does. It is the most complete and well-rounded game I have ever experienced, and because of that I had to force myself to quit the game 9 months ago. It was impossible for me to play the game in moderation. Each and every spare moment I had in life, went to WoW.
Unfortunately, I haven't been able to experience the same feeling of starting this awesome adventure with any game other than those two. I thought Destiny might have had a chance, but nothing came of it. Destiny is a wonderful game, but there are several very disappointing things about it. With that said, I am waiting to buy my first CoD game to see if I can potentially experience the same rush I have been looking for from a new game for years. I highly doubt I'll get the feeling from CoD, but I'll keep searching and waiting until I do.

6 RepliesDestiny. It quite literally is the reason I am here today. Had a house fire the week after release and the only reason I was up was Destiny. Otherwise I would have been upstairs sleeping and likely wouldn't have made it out with the kids.

2 RepliesBy far, SOCOM 2. I was never "addicted" to a game until this online third person shooter. The clan management and competitiveness was insane. All of the ranking was weighted and based on a "skill" formula. I don't know the formula but if you ran into a Captain or Admiral, you were pretty much toast. The rankings were way more meaningful than anything I've seen since. I'm still friends with half of my clan members, we started playing together in 2003. My college roommate started playing with me. We weren't close at all before that but now I'm in his wedding in a few months. Socom was a significant factor in developing the friendship. Something about the fierce Competition and long hours preparing for and participating in Game Battles, as well as other competitive gaming communities, brings people together. I still miss SOCOM....

Gears. My first and my most beloved.

1 ReplyEdited by GalacticMistake: 1/29/2015 4:30:38 PMDoom. The first game I ever played that had multiplayer. We had to connect our 386 pc's with a serial cable and run specific drivers to get or to work. I miss those pioneering days sometimes...

But I can think back on each of these and actually have dozens of fond memories and can remember them as though I'm playing right now. Thank you for this thread... Taking a trip down memory lane feels great :) P.S - Destiny is the first game that has me so severely hooked, in a long time... Over the years several games left memories that I never want to give up. A few highlights: -Pac Man (first game I can remember.... on my Atari 2400) -Bubble Bobble, first multiplayer experience for me -Lucasarts graphic adventures (I still like to play these games, great stuff) -Doom, Quake 1.2.3 - I spent a lot of time playing these games on local lan-parties with friends -Resident Evil 4 (re-ignited my interest for games) -Xenoblade Chronicles (best JRPG IMHO, even beats Chrono Trigger for me...) And.... -Destiny (yeah, sounds cheesy... but because of it I started using a headset and looked for PSN friends. I found several and three of them became real life friends and I can foresee that these crazy guys will stay in my life for quite a while...)

Edited by TheGuyFromHalo2: 1/29/2015 3:57:32 PMRunescape and first gen Pokemon. I haven't played Runescape since like middle school (I'm in college now) and at that point I had 123 days played. The game really took a turn downhill after 2007 and I kinda lost interest as I got older. I still have an unhealthy knowledge of that game. I played Pokemon red, blue, and yellow on my glacier (see through) Gameboy Advance. I would play that game every time I got in the car to go somewhere. Still play it to this day. Edit: I thought it goes without saying, but Halo has absolutely helped define me as a person. Steps down from soap box. Thank you.
