How do you feel about vegetarians/vegans?

I have several vegan and veggie friends...but I just don't get it...

  • I don't get it. Their reasoning doesn't make sense to me, but I don't mind. Most I've met aren't too strict either. It's more they "prefer" not to eat meat.

  • I dislike all meat, except chicken. It really makes me sick even looking at people eating meat. I don't give up meat because I think it's cruel, I just don't like the taste of it, except chicken. :P

  • I'm vegetarian, I do do it for the health benefits and I never really like meat all that much. I really don't like the vegetarians/vegans who will try and force it upon others, it gives the rest of us a bad name.

I don't much care either way. It's their lifestyle choice, and if that's working for them, more power to them. The only beef I have with vegetarians are the ones that say they do it 'so we don't kill any of the precious animals, because they're living and we don't want to kill". I think those individuals are hypocrites. Aside from that, I have no problem with them so long as they leave me and my piles of bacon alone.

I don't care about them as long as they don't bother me. But I also don't really understand their point. Plants and animals are both organisms and I don't get why you should be killing and eating one but not the other with humans clearly being omnivores. Because animals have emotions and plants don't? It isn't even researched wether all animals have emotions and that plants don't have any. According to this logic you could chop off the leg of someone who has paraplegia as long as you ensure that he/she doesn't notice it (maybe with a prothesis) and make a tasty steak from it. lol

  • I don't have a problem with them in the least. So long as they're not one of those that believe everyone should follow their lifestyle. I want my meat, mainly in the form of bacon.

  • I don't mind Vegetarians who are practicing it to be more healthy, or because they are concerned about the sustainabillity of meat and all of that jazz. I myself don't eat red meat very often, and it doesn't bother me all that much. Quite a few of them though, especially vegans, have always given me the impression that they don't care for all of that. A lot of them sorta seem like control freaks who just want attention for being different. I think it's fine to have a preference for non-animal products, but to avoid it entirely? That's just a waste, and it's ignoring our identity as Ominvores.

  • Meh. I don't have a problem with them being vegetarians or vegans. I have a problem with the ones I've met telling me that I should be like them and quit eating meat.

  • It absolutely disgusts me that some people object to eating the flesh of dead animals. How dare they!

    • I've met a few vegan and vegetarian people, and most of them are pretty nice. However, I can recall one meeting where this vegan was trying to tell me that humans were never meant to eat meat and that we have always been true vegetarians. I can't remember how they explained the 95% of the human population being omnivorous, but I just wanted to hammer a nail into my head. That aside, I generally don't have a problem people living that kind of lifestyle. I think it's stupid, but if you want to do torture yourself like that, go ahead. But please don't be going to basketball and football games holding up huge signs and shoving stupid brochures in our faces telling us that eating meat is bad and that we should feel bad for it. Yes, animal cruelty is bad and all, and if I had my way all animals would be treated respectfully before we killed them, but I'm going to eat meat anyway. It tastes good, it has lots of protein, and it tastes good. Deal with it.

    • It's a really tough lifestyle to keep up with in this day and age. More power to them. I'm an omnivore, myself, but I've considered going vegan for health reasons.

      • In general I respect Vegetarians and Vegans for being able to live off food that doesn't come from an animal or isn't meat. I have a few vegetarian friends. I've met Vegans, but I've only ended up disliking them. As someone who eats meat and intakes nutrients from consumables that come from animals, I've been heavily criticized by Vegans who viewed me as some sort of monster. They tried to assert their arrogance over my by claiming that they are better by staying on a diet that they viewed as "Non-corrupt". While I don't mind Vegans generally, I've come to often expect this sort of behavior from them, as they've been capable of proving my asserted stereotyped view of them over and over, and I dislike them for being so horrible to people who aren't Vegans in general.

I'm fine with it, I have some friends who are vegetarians and they are still cool people. Doesn't change who the person really is in my opinion.

          • They are people who do not like/want to eat meat, or if vegan, don't eat meat or meat byproducts. I don't get why we can't just get along. If it is right for them, who are we to judge?
