Raids should remain the core of Destiny’s endgame. They are a fixed part of the game’s identity, and there is no reason to replace them. At the same time, Destiny could still benefit from having another long-term endgame activity alongside raids that offers a different kind of progression and replayability.
Gambit already experimented with blending PvE and PvP, which means the foundation for this kind of idea already exists in Destiny. The proposal would be to evolve that direction into a PvPvE extraction-style activity, but in a way that fits Destiny rather than directly copying other extraction games.
Most importantly, this activity should not rely on players losing their main loadouts or core gear when they fail, since that kind of punishment does not fully fit Destiny. Instead, the risk should be tied to what players earn inside the activity itself, such as mode-specific loot, resources, objectives, or rewards tied directly to that system. That would preserve Destiny’s identity while still creating a meaningful risk-reward loop.
The mode could include group objectives, quests, and its own loot pool, giving players a separate endgame progression path rather than just another side activity. It could also make use of spaces and concepts that already fit Destiny well, such as Calus’ ship, Vex environments, the Infinite Forest, and similar existing settings, instead of requiring a completely separate foundation.
Some seasonal ideas or limited-time activities could also be folded into this system instead of remaining isolated and temporary. That would give Destiny a more permanent activity that can grow over time rather than adding content that disappears or loses relevance quickly.
Over time, the mode could expand in the same way raids do, for example by adding a new map or space with each major expansion alongside the new raid. If building something like this into Destiny 2 is too difficult because of the game’s current structure or the scale of changes required, then this idea may fit Destiny 3 even better as a built-in endgame pillar from the start. If it can be introduced gradually in Destiny 2, that could still work as well.
The goal is not to turn Destiny into a different game, but to add a second endgame pillar alongside raids. It may be possible in Destiny 2, but it could make even more sense in Destiny 3 if Bungie wants to develop the idea more fully.

Please no. I'll live a good life if I never had to read the words extraction shooter again. I play destiny because I despise extraction shooters or PVP. If this is where they put resources in the game it would probably drive away tons of players.

the focus on raids and dungeons killed this game, no thanks

Yeah divide your already divided player base between 4 different game modes lmao Plus, extraction shooters are -blam!- lame and boring.
