Chill Clip and Cold Steel could use a damage buff in PvE. (Damage values offered in the post)

So I was doing some damage testing in PvE and found both Chill Clip and Cold Steel while synergistic both have taken a considerable hit in the damage department. Compared to other perks. I'll use a Special weapon and a Heavy with Chill Clip as an example and show my findings for Zephyr as the sole weapon with the Cold Steel perk. Considering that both perks now take 4 shots to setup I'll factor that in for the overall damage bonus. The damage bonus is currently only offered to frozen targets Testing was done on the Shayotet Partisan Lost Sector Boss. ------------------------------ Aurvandil: Base: 13,541 x5 = 67,705 Chill Clip + Shatter: 14,895 x5 = 74,475 (10% up from base) + 13,100 Total: 87,575 Overall Damage Bonus: 29.35% ÷4 = 7.33% ------------------------------ Fire and Forget: Base: 32,621 x3 = 97,863 Chill Clip + Shatter: 35,883 x3 = 107,649 (10% up from base) +13,100 Total: 120,749 Overall Damage Bonus: 23.386% ÷4 = 5.846% ------------------------------ Zephyr: Heavy Attack Base: 15,914 ×5 = 79,570 Light Attack Base: 26,341 x1 Heavy Cold Steel: 17,506 x4 + 28,975 = 98,999 (24.418% up from base) +13,100 Light Attack Cold Steel: 28,975 x1 (10% up from base) + 13,100 Total: Hvy- 112,099 Lgt- 42,075 Overall Damage Bonus: Hvy- 41% ÷4 = 10.25% Lgt- 59.732% ÷4 = 14.933% ------------------------------ Seeing the values here it's evident Cold Steel is worse than Frenzy, but only just better than Vorpal Weapon for Heavy Weapons, and Chill Clip for both Special Weapons and Heavy Weapons is now worse than even Vorpal Weapon by nearly 50%. The real trouble for Chill Clip and Cold Steel is that they only offer extra damage against frozen targets. If Chill Clip were reworked to offer that extra 10% extra damage against SLOWED and Frozen targets instead of just frozen it'd instantly bump this perk up to match Frenzy and Vorpal Weapon. As for Cold Steel having it offer 20-25% bonus damage on slowed and frozen targets we may see a Whirlwind Blade competitor if a strict 3 light 1 heavy Combo is used.

  • Chill Clip was fine before the nerf on everything except fusions. The nerf should have been only for fusions. It went from being best on fusions to now being only worth it on fusions. No idea how anyone thought a blanket nerf was a good idea.

    • There perks are more about their utility than damage. The power to freeze or slow a combatant without the use of abilities or the stasis subclass is far beyond damage number. Chill clip is still one of the most popular perks for end game content, even though its damage is low.

      • Chill clip is not meant for damage, it’s to stun or freeze.

      • I think the problem is shatter is kind weak in general, especially compared to ignition. For example conditional finality, the exotic raid shotgun. The stasis freeze and shatter deals 20k while ignitions deal 40k.

        • I’d say maybe buff chill clip on heavy weapons and a slight buff for cold steel but that’s about it. They’re utility perks first and foremost. Having a perk that stops majors for 5 seconds and deals the same damage as vorpal weapon (even to minors) might be a bit strong… I like the 10% chill clip bonus you had for Heavy weapons and maybe a similar buff for Cold Steel.
