The Pointless Issue With Reprised Weapons

I'm reminded of a great post where somebody on Twitter proposed that there's only so many ways to create a weapon within its archetype. The only real changes are what it rolls from the current trait pool. A rapid fire AR is a rapid fire AR, no matter the skin. So a reprised weapon from Y1, Y2, or even D1 - may as well be a new weapon. There's way less weapons in Destiny than we think, because it's just rolls of various Weapon Frames. Archetype > Frames > Rolls. That's all. Whether or not it's reprised is irrelevant.

  • Well that's just false since the same archetype can have varying stats other than RoF

    • Honestly, if a weapon has different perks from its first appearance, it might as well be a new gun.

      • Origin Traits seem to be Bungie's way of giving new weapons an identity, differentiating them from others in the same archetype in addition to fixed element types and available perk pools. It also incentives re-acquiring reprised weapons. Your old god roll is still useful, but in some cases it may be beneficial to replace the same weapon with an Origin Trait version.

        • Exactly. While new is nice and good aesthetics are great, I’ll run the ugliest most default looking weapon if it gets good perks. I’d rather have more things to chase than whine about small details like it having the same name and/or model as an old weapon. What I do get is people being upset about weapons that are being reprised that they have an on-power god roll of in their vault. I get being frustrated about having to grind for another Battler less than a year after it’s initial release. My general rule is: anything before Forsaken is fair game (they really should be tapping into the huge pool of weapons that were never afforded random rolls! And D1 weapons are fine, but I wish they went a little more obscure so they don’t feel forced to give it perks that make it like it’s former self). Anything after Forsaken is a little sketchy. It only gets really disrespectful if it’s a weapon that isn’t even sunset. Like most people would love to see reprised versions of Black Armory or Season of Dawn weapons but no one is asking for the Europa weapons to be reprised lol. There is, of course an aspect of popularity to it too, but basically D1 and early D2 weapons will be met mostly with apathy or joy, Forsaken to Beyond Light weapons will be met with a mix of joy, apathy, and anger. And anything after Beyond Light will mostly be anger and apathy.
