I hate the ticking clock on all my gear

I'm not a hard-core player, pretty casual actually. I'd describe myself as extremely average in terms of ability. I suck at pvp. I enjoy pve a lot but don't ask me to do a master nightfall. I've never done a raid cos no one to do them with and the idea of getting mic'ed up with 5 strangers to do something ill probably struggle with is not overly appealing. I'm like a lot of players, average. I like running about killing stuff, do a cple of strikes, a nightfall, run a few lost sectors, do some public events. You know, just unwind for a cple of hrs after work and family stuff is done for the day. I've played since d2 released and bought every expansion. I've got a few thousand hrs in game now and enjoyed the journey I've been on. I've got my hands on some (for me) really good weapons and armour pieces in that time. I've managed to masterwork a lot of it, even without being able to do the high level stuff that gives easy access to all the upgrade mats. I just done my gunsmith bounties and saw spider and was patient. For me, I enjoyed the BL campaign and new destinations but really miss all those strikes, especially pyramidion and savathuns song. And all my gear that went. It was really heartbreaking to say goodbye to so many weapons I'd patiently worked on over sometimes months. And my armour thats masterworked. Its not gone yet but literally all I see when I look at it now is the power cap. I can't afford to masterwork multiple armour pieces every cple of seasons. Its too much. So I feel all my gear now has a clock ticking down to when it will be obsolete. At the end of this season its my breachlight (among others). I got such a good roll on that and love using it. And it looks really good too. But its going and with it so is a part of the game thats special to me. I hate the feeling all my stuff is on its way out as soon as I get it. Its not incentivising me to grind more gear at all. Its making me feel whats the point. I'm feeling more distant from the game, not closer. I find myself looking for an alternative to destiny more and more, and as more of my gear that I've spent so long working on is being taken away, that feeling is getting stronger. I'm not gone yet, but to be honest, I'm half out the door and looking down the street. I hope bungie can change my mind.

  • Wow, hilarious. Has anyone realized that every time you post or reply, that thread goes to the top of new messages in the forums? That happens in all threads, except any of the ones bashing Sunsetting. How strange?

You nailed it. Seasons & timers & resets & expiration dates. You have to play their way, on their schedule. If you don't, you get punished. The game changes constantly but you never actually progress. If I had known what Destiny would become, I would have never signed up for it 7 years ago. I had some moments of joy along the way but always end up feeling exploited. Only played this season because of the Xbox Game Pass (and Cyberpunk debacle). I only spent $8 on the season, since everything else was free, and I'm sorry I bothered. I return to Destiny periodically because the basic gameplay is fun. Sadly, everything surrounding that basic gameplay is the opposite of fun. If I could, I'd trade in everything I have in D2, for double the vault size in D1 - and play that when I got the itch. As much of a grind as D1 could be, I rarely felt it was a complete waste of time.

  • It's just not the same as a real MMO/RPG where you gain levels and get better gear organically. It's all part of the growing process in them. You don't mind losing what you had before because what you have now is better. I don't think LS understands that his dream of an RPG/MMO style game just won't work with this game because they don't have the ability to create enough material to allow organic growth. Destiny really is a hamster wheel, you never get any stronger and you always feel like you are right where you were before. I'm already not looking forward to my current LL meaning nothing and grinding out more guns/armor that I probably won't care about because they have an expiration date stamped on them.

    • I hate the ticking clock of life, as we all slowly approach death, the stories of our lives void of meaning, our tales long forgotten beneath the rubble of our civilizations, destroyed by the arrogance of men. But yeah, sunsetting sucks.

    • Best way to stop the clock... don't even play this clocked game and play another that respects your time and dedication. No not trying to be mean but seriously drop this game and don't waste another penny on it.

      • You have a year to use gear. I changed my loadouts 3 times this season already.

      • Breachlight. I poured all my resources into getting weapons that season. I haven't been up to 400 shards since then. And all that time. Pointless. I can patrol the EDZ with my god roll Breachlight. Or in a couple of seasons, the Firing Line PvE weapons that will have absolutely no value outside of high level PvE group content. Worthless.

      • I am with you. I play more of the Borderlands games than Destiny 2. You actually get loot and lots of it. You can customize your gear and get updated more powerful versions of it. You can equip their versions of exotics (legendaries) in all slots and try for an actual powerful build. You can solo and matchmake activities. Overall better franchise. Destiny has better gun play but that is all it has. Destiny is a hamster wheel power grind that has no end and no story telling except for the lore, and most of that is outside the game. Now that gear expires what is point in master working anything except exotics?

        • Just don't masterwork any of it. Keep it on 9 and replace it upon expiration.

        • I've been following the trend here. And for the first time Kelly Green is right. Bungie will not revert or reverse their stance on this. Bungie made their bed and they are sleeping on it. I don't like what they did to this game. But no matter how loud we shout, they will not change. Kelly Green is correct. We should leave. Quit the game. If you can't, then stay. But if you can quit, then quit the game. They will not change. You can shout. Or you can shout and quit. If not, then keep playing. But you'll be disappointed. I chose to quit.

        • Know what you mean. Masterworking in particular is only really possible if you play a lot, otherwise you won't get the cores etc you need to upgrade the gear. And even though I do play a fair amount, by the time I've gotten everything where I want it to be sunsetting looms and I don't really get to enjoy it I'm now a lot more cautious about wasting items on upgrading gear until I'm absolutely certain that gear is something I want to use a lot. So it's a bit counter-productive. I still like the game though and not thinking of leaving just yet, but it does take the shine off it. Makes it worse when you have eg the Drifter still selling Bygones but there's no point getting it because it has a 1060 cap. Why?!

        • The dumbest part is 90% of all the gear that's been and will be sunset isn't game breaking in any way. They should have just got rid of the few game breakers and that's it.

        • It is garbage but my reports say that Taniks has no House. He kneels before no banner, owes allegiance to no Kell. He is a murderer, and very good at what he does. I have been tracking him since Wolves broke their chains, yes? Now Taniks works for Wolf Pack, but not for long

I agree with you....saw myself as a weapon chaser if a new weapon came out I wanted it regardless of the hours and frustrations needed to get them.had all the strike and gambit weapons and some raid weapons. I’m not the best pvp player and new I would get a kicking but wanted the recluse the revoker randys throwing knife Komodo got lunas howl but never got the not forgotten finally got the mountaintop about a month before sunsetting after hours yelling at the tv. I was pi**ed when this happened all my time and frustrations was gone along with my hard earned weapons.these weapons were apart of the buzz/chase that came on the side of the activities you were playing...a extra bonus if you like.what is there to chase now? Ooh a beloved which is re skinned...thanks These chases need to be brought back pinnacles/ritual weapons Were a great buzz and sense of achievement and great weapons To use.... the weapon pool now is shocking Where are the exotic quests we had... Caydes gun the thorn whisper outbreak perfected and the quest With the rose these all took a great deal of time but were fun and Had depth to them Now we have exotic quests with hardly any story and done in a hour or so Either increase the weapon cap or reverse sunsetting Give me my hard earned loot back my time and effort Was wasted

        • I do not care about sunsetting, because game is a boring shit show, and has way bigger issues than some stupid gear or weapons being trashed. So I lost interest year or more ago.

        • This sums it up in a nutshell. If the clock wasn’t there, I’d get to keep my favourite, hard earned and masterworked gear. But I’d still keep grinding for alternative loadouts for the different characters and different subclasses. But now there’s just no point. For a game with so many different ways of playing and so much gear to choose from, it’s crazy how restricted I feel. My Titan and warlock are now retired to the south of France while my hunter continues the fight until I have to get longer lasting armour for her. Such a shame.

        • Nope. They're holding the door for us for some reason. Daring us. Destiny's powerful mojo-hold over me can't survive the myriad of poor bungie decision making.

          • it sucks, i can't try out different play styles because it will all be gone so soon. i will never be able to complete different sets. let alone for 3 different classes. bad enough the season quests are so boring and tedious. then the rng for pins. i actually got a 1250 pin this week. like my lowest gear is like 1256 or 55 on my hunter and i get a 1250 pin, that is an insult! i've spent most of the day watching youtube instead of playing, because i feel like what is the point!
