Road to Luna's Howl. The only valuable memory of D2 in 2018

I'm an average if not even casual pvp player. Yes, I use all those meta weapons. But two weapons in my inventory deserve a special place. Those are Luna's Howl and The Recluse. Let's speak for the first one until the second one is not talentlessly ruined. When LH has been introduced and the comp leveling was way harder than it is today I decided to get it because of the challenge it brings to my pvp skills. I invested time, never used sh*tty recoveries and made it with my clanmates who are a bit more skilled but more less we're at the same level. it took us a bit more than a week, close to two - but we did it. this weapon is forged with sweat and nerve and acquiring it actually felt like this is SPECIAL. not an average lame pve quest for an exotic everybody can do but something which is superior by design. Because of the way you get it. It has been the weapon that introduced to me and friends of mine a new way to play, a deserved one. It remains and always will be the best memory of 2018 D2. 2019 comes, numerous recoveries all around, ddosing, but what's the saddest - the comp leveling has been redesigned to make it EASIER to get the LH and NF. wow, that's a disappointment. a lot of people got it now without a true effort it took those trying to get it back in November 2018. Now, this patchnote. I don't know who decided that it's a good idea to ruin two awesome weapons this way instead of adressing actual pvp weapon handling problems (yes yes recoil, bloom, all that). As always there's some guy complaining he can't outgun LH or NF. Well, practice, become better, move better, shoot better. Invest in skill, not in complaining and tears. Yes, the guns are nasty but in wrong hands they do nothing exceptional. It's just like with godroll weapons - if don't know how to use it, it's just another gun which won't give you KD over 9000. Aside from the game itself I do a podcast about Destiny and had defended the game in the darkest times, when lots of people were leaving or just blaming it. I tried to shape a good mood for those who play. After reading the patchnote - it wasn't about those two guns anymore, it was about ruining all my friends good times and memories on the way to at least LH, I can't speak for NF. If somebody doesn't have the gun or can't acquire it - it isn't pvp guys problem. go to pvp, get some kills, get skilled, you'll have it all. Who doesn't have it, well, it's not rocket science to define that there has been no effort made and you simply don't need the gun itself. So why complain and ruin the gunplay of those who managed to get through the challenge? It's not the first time the sandbox team does that kind of stuff and yes the pvp is out of sight for some, but for me - it's the 90% reason I play destiny, for pvp, to become a better player and cut through some challenges. So Thanks, to anybody who's responsible for a bad decision like this. One step closer to switching to pc to have proper choice of guns and getting rid of ps4 destiny-wise. I know it's not the way, but I still want to play the game, at least for now but want to see steps forward not steps back.

People that think that "this is hard to get, so even if it destroys the balance of the game, it's fine" are why thorn took so long to get nerfed in destiny 1. I bet you thought thorn deserved to 2 shot headshot, and also prevent shield regen for a few extra seconds too, didn't you? Cuz you had to do a strike that was like 4% harder than an average nightfall? Cuz you had to kill a few people in crucible? If something is TOO good to be true, it gets nerfed. Get over it. I got my Luna when it first came out too... And ever since then I've been disgusted at how broken and unbalanced all the pinnacle weapons are. Just got mountaintop yesterday. Already disgusted at the literally free kills i get from proxy mines. Pinnacle PvP weapons require 0 skill and reward you tremendously for the most basic tasks... Kill someone? Next kill is basically free. Shoot someone in the head? Kill someone a whole shot faster. Shoot someone with a grenade launcher? Instead of 80 damage you actually get a kill now. There's no "i worked for it, so it deserves to be OP" Anyone who doesn't need a crutch, will instantly realize there's a problem. Recluse basically has 3 perks in one, combined with 0 recoil... How is that even remotely okay.

    • Okay. I am getting legitimately annoyed by this idea that "wah I spent months going for a weapon because it was unbalanced and now it's getting nerfed even after I knew it would wah." You, on your own free will, spent that time going for those weapons, and I bet you did just because you knew they were unbalanced. You wouldn't have done that if they weren't. You put in the work? Cool, so did thousands of other players who got it and spammed it throughout the Crucible like a bunch of damn apes. It wasn't noone's fault but your own. Just like the commenter stated above, you are exactly the type of person who would wish for Thorn to have not been nerfed because of the fact you worked for it. It took me a good three months of grinding to get Vex Mythoclast, when it came out, and I still knew that it would be nerfed, and it deserved it. Me, after spending months working for a weapon that wasn't even guaranteed, was nerfed before I could get it. Did I cry? No, because I am not stupid, and I knew better. Same thing here. You should have knew better. You spent that time going for a weapon that was broken and you knew it, and the game pays the price for it. Bungie obviously agrees. In D1, it was mostly a class of weapons that were broken, like Sidearms in Y3 and Hand Cannons in Y1. Now, it is a set list of weapons that are being widely-used in PvP because of the fact that they were overly-effective. If you are not fit to understand these concepts, than you don't deserve to give feedback to this game. This game needs to get better, not worse because of people's emotions.

      • Yup, definitely not the memory of completing the raid for the first time or getting that one rare drop you have been working from a strike or raid.

You don’t even know how the gun will actually function in the wild. Stop letting your baseless emotions control you. We all know that what is written down on paper does not always translate well to play time. Look how much of a piece of shit Gambit turned out to be. Good on paper, poor in execution. My feeling is those two HCs will still be dominant. Calm your tits.

      • I think it's funny that you pvp guys finally get your shit nerfed. Pve has been getting nerfed for years because of pvp "balance", then the same guys crying about Doctrine , Clever Dragon,Mida, and Graviton Lance go balls out to get a gun from Competitive they know is OP so they can take it into QP and stomp because of bad matchmaking. So yes... I do think it's funny that you worked so hard to get something you knew couldn't last and now you're all butthurt.... because I remember all the times you got my bad ass PVE Arminius-d nerfed because it was the same archetype as Doctrine, and my Clever Dragon with spray and play and glass half full(pve roll) was nerfed because you toolbags were getting killed while trying to hide and snipe in pvp with your scout rifles, or all the other times my good pve shit was nerfed. I had fun in D1 pvp, but the current state of "QP " is just flat out foolish if the point is for it to be a fun aspect of the game... because it's not fun without proper matchmaking unless you have better weapons than everyone else. If we still had sbmm I would be on your side, because I'd still be using the weapons I prefer and my bracket would change to accommodate my playstyle... but y'all just had to have sbmm tossed and now it's time to pay the piper. So I'll say the same thing to you that you turds always say... bye, felicia. Git Gud.

for all the people like you who earned it, there are likely as many who got carried. so now you have both high skilled and not high skilled people using it, and the not high skilled users have an advantage over people with low to moderate skill who don't have it. so, maybe if Bungie got off their asses and did something about carries and DDOSing there would be less people crutching the meta and it would allow QP to not be another sweatfest for all the low to moderate skill players who now have this superior weapon. Nerfing wasn't called for, and I don't even have the weapons and yes i get my ass handed to me with the weapons. But the issue is that Bungie doesn't do the policing necessary to keep the reward for those who truly earned it. by not addressing carries and DDOSing, they allow all this to happen.

              • The guns are just too good in every way right now. Skilled players now no longer need to be quite as skilled to defeat the average player consistently. It would make more sense if Luna and nf were shame weapons— by which I mean, consolation prizes for losing a lot, which left inventory after winning enough times. Something to give the small fries an edge, not something to give the best pvp players an advantage over players they’re already better than. Still, it’s possible Luna will be even better for team firing after this patch, and it will supposedly still have great bloom, recoil, and inair accuracy. It’s still gonna be op.

              • You are absolutely right man. Unfortunately that experience of getting those guns has forged you into a better player and you are fighting the collective cognitive dissonance of those who just can't accept that they need practice. They don't get that the reason lh/nf/dust rock is so widely used isn't bc they are the only effective combo but bc they simply are so widely used and matching playstyles is a necessity of higher level comp.

I was helping my fiance on his account to get to 2100 to get Recluse and Lunas, and my God, I wrecked ALOT of Luna's users with a West of Sunfall7 handcannon. People just salty because they didn't get the weapons. Bygones, Inaugural Address and Ace are direct competitors with Luna's. It just shows you the louder people are, even when in the wrong, Bungie will cater to them. Good post!

Since I play for pvp it feels like the achievement of getting those guns so hard is being laughed at now. And that, that is suck tbh. I never ever hated the gun just because its has a bit of advantage cause magn.howl (which should bw since its a reward for getting ur pvp rank) instead I played for it too. After the nerf those who complain will realize that even if the gun nerfed they still can't hit higher ranks if they do it half-assed and blaming the weapons.

                  • If earning these weapons was truly your fondest memory/experience, than you should be happy. Now you get to do it all over again with the next Pinnacle PvP weapon in the Season of Opulence. If it was about the journey as you claim, rejoice because now you get to start anew with the new meta - you said it meant something back before it was made easier. New season, new meta, new chase, new struggle. Glass half full.
