As someone who finds crucible too sweaty to play casually the thorn quest is not a lot of fun. At least there's no negative progress like the last word grind but to spend most of my day on one step of the quest seems excessive. The game has become a full time job and the devs need to find a happy medium between year one where it was too easy and year two where it's too grindy. Destiny 1, a much better game, was nowhere near as consuming of your time. Four spectral blades kills for 1 percent progress - enough said! I like to raid not play crucible all day and many of your player base are the same.
