How can you defend Black Armory launch?
I won’t speak for anyone else, just myself.
I understand that this update was meant to drip feed content for months.
Yes, I can read.
Yes, I understood that there would be no campaign.
But, I didn’t realize that I would download the content and have absolutely nothing new to do on day 1.
I honestly don’t believe that ANYONE expected to pay and download and then head directly back into the blind -blam!-ing well to do the same old shit they’ve been doing for months.
Whether you’re cool with waiting or not, I honestly thought EVERYONE would agree that something exciting should have happened on day 1. But I guess not???
Even after Osiris I was excited to jump into Warmind to get new weapons and armor. But this... this has been the most anti-climactic dlc release ever. If a Zero excitement, wait-and-see approach is the future of dlc, I think I’ll find a new hobby.
But, please, if you support this model, tell me why. Because this is probably the worst experience I’ve ever had with a video game, and I’ve played Superman 64.
*edit: I appreciate most of the comments. I really wanted to understand how people weren’t disappointed. I can’t say I agree, but at least I understand a little bit better.
To me, day 1 of any dlc should be exciting, and this one provided zero excitement. Seems like people who expected nothing on day 1 got what they paid for. I love the excitement of new content, so this model will never be okay with me.

I’m fine with the model. Curse and warminds campaigns were both half assed and left a lot of room for disappointment, especially by bringing in significant lore characters and doing almost nothing substantial with them. It’s new content and new lore without another ruined lore figure. And I’m not mad that the forge is hard, it’s endgame and it should be hard, but it’s upsetting that it’s nearly impossible at the light level we started at. A simple solution someone suggested was to raise the power level the week before black armory started just like how you could earn 400+ gear the week before forsaken. It was just poor planning on bungies part.

2 RepliesI'm not defending Bungie or this game but after 3+ years with this company and decades of your personal gaming experience with past and present companies if you were expecting anything other than what you got in this DLC then it's your fault. How, D2 y1 was an eye opener. Past experiences with Eververse and follow up dev interviews have us a hint of what's coming. Community has lost a big portion of players so market is slim and different from D1 days. Good or bad, this is what it is and that's the future. If you want to play Destiny this will be the cycle. If you don't like it, find a different hobby because Bungie is this and it ain't changing for you. In a different analogy, my petrol head friends don't like electric cars but for them to go to work without paying through their noses that's the only option. This destiny is an eco version of past. You may not like it but it's the only deal we have. sh1t, I sound like Theresa May on Brexit deal!

1 ReplyFor the people complaining about leveling up your already playing the forge wrong. I ran through all 3 characters grabbing all my powerful gear and finished my first forge today and I'm already kicking myself in the a s s . So first of all, if you have a hunter with BB, a Titan with MP, and a well with thunderlords, that's level disadvantage doesn't matter. Don't get me wrong, getting to the 3rd wave is a BITCH, and I gave up after a few tries. DONT DO THAT. Bang it out and get it done. The MG that drops is usually 610+ from what I'm hearing roughly being at 615 for most and that's if the forge is the FIRST thing you do. Need I remind you guys how the horror story worked? Get a 600 gun and all the sudden your jumping light levels. Same thing. The forge won't be easy. But make sure it's the first thing you do. On ALL of your characters. And by the 3rd you shouldn't see that red marker next to their name and your MG will drop 630ish. While I do slightly agree, black armory was slightly disappointing as far as new quests, activities, and ways to level your gear . But if you paid close attn to what bungie was saying , they really tried to explain the best they could this is how it was going down. I hope someone finds my advice useful and I wish you guys the best for world's first. Just wish I grinded the forge first because now I'm gonna be sooooo underleveled for the raid

7 RepliesIt’s human nature to defend your mistakes. Example story: I was at a video store looking at some of the video cables to purchase. The salesman comes up to me and tries to sell me the most expensive brand, and I say “No thanks, the generic will do just fine”. He then tells me he has spent $5000 on all of the audio video cables in his house on that brand and they were worth every penny. I respond back “I’d think that too if I was dumb enough to waste that much money on some cables“. True story. Just goes to show I’m as big an asshole in person.

By buying anything from Bungie you are signing on for a potential promise. Nothing more. Look at the success of games like World of Tanks console. Garbage reskins churned out on a monthly basis and that is deemed new content and the faithful eat it up. It makes them lots of money for minimal effort. Here, its about reskinning weapons. All games are going this way. Pay for marketing and build hype. Get the sales and who cares about the product. Profits have been secured for shareholders and thats all that matters. Destiny has been declining on their quality of their product since day one. Over promise, under deliver. This model is the new model. You want it to change? STOP preordering games and DLC. STOP buying seasons passes on content that hasn't even been planned out, or continue to buy it up and lower your expectations on what you are about to receive. Expect reskins not content. I'm not surprised or disappointed with this DLC. I took a long break from D1 to D2. This game has more than enough stuff to do for a casual for months and months. Joining this game late has been the best thing ever. Seeing the raging loyalists who are starving for more content and complaining about RNG is no different from D1. I'm glad not to be part of them anymore. Go play something else and see the salt and rage on their forums. You come back to Destiny and see its actually a pretty decent game here minus a few small things. Getting upset about a DLC thinking if there is enough of you screaming you'll bring about some drastic change is funny. I don't defend them. I lowered my expectations of their product from D1 to D2. So far its exceeding my expectations, and I've saved money waiting on D2. Good things come to those who wait.

How can I defend it? Simple, I'll just set my defense to 650 light, that way no one can counter it.

2 RepliesMy clan and I discussed this "drip" endgame content last week .(that's only 5 folks by the way) We used the last wish raid as a example... When the raid dropped 2 out of 10 folks in the clan could attempt it..... So we figured the same for this forge endgame stuff , except this time none of us could day one but some of us be gettin' mighty close to try . The way they did it doesn't bother us , we just wish they'd given all guardians a heads up on the "power" requirements.... Not going to bad mouth the forge stuff cause I haven't played it so like most I will wait and see...

A fifteen minute shooting spree followed by an difficulty spike that blocks most players is a bizarre move. Having nothing else but roaming HVTs and reskinned Y1 weapons (but they're different! They have a strong password appended to their names!) for the players just compounds the weirdness.

They should of started leveling a week prior and doubled prime drops for a week for players below 600. I think they need to play their game more to understand it and how any idea they want to implement really would function in the wild. I think the nerfing would stop or at least be a little more sensible as well. They also need to do a better job of walking the basic player through what they should be doing ahead of time when new things are dropping in the game. All of this is a direct result result of them not field testing things properly IMO. Hire some basic gamers for honest and proper feedback to run things in the field and give the players perspective.

Bungie needs to generate profit for their master Activision. Since the stupid streamers wanted grind and since there is not much content, they diluted it even further and made it worse. I am only 590 and have given up on the game. Once a week I may do some Gambit and strikes but that's it. Puting more money into this game is just dumb and masochistic.

22 RepliesIt’s too early to tell if I like this model, but knowing that more stuff is coming soon is growing on me. Compare that to a traditional dlc whet the content is done within a week, then nothing for months? I think this maybe better. What disappoints me is the community’s inability to understand what’s clearly been explained to them over the many weeks prior to release.

I'm with you, I knew it was not a normal DLC but to get no new real activity that I could do was a let down, to have to run EP over and over to get the quest step done was tedious and then to go into the forge and oh wait, look, a timer, how original, because Bungie knows how we like timers and then oh no we ran out of time and have no time to figure out the mechanics of this Forge, WTF BUNGIE!!! I wont pay for another Season Pass that's for sure. Haha at Superman 64...

Grinding old content, is a nono for me. I'm gonna be raiding on all my characters like always, & i'm just gonna power lvl from that. F dreaming city, F public events, F strikes. Just thinking about that grind makes me want to play something else, good job Bungie that's the kind of vibes i want when paying 35$ forsaken + annual pass = 80$+ (depending on your region) , i'm sorry but that's the price of a new f game & its season pass. So yeah Bungie, your laziness is not appreciated (Yellow Card)

2 RepliesThis isn't a DLC, that's why you purchase the annual pass, it's content spread out over a year, we are playing forsaken for another 9 months with slowly released content. You don't have to like the new release schedule but even though you say you understand it you really don't seem too.
