How can you defend Black Armory launch?

I won’t speak for anyone else, just myself. I understand that this update was meant to drip feed content for months. Yes, I can read. Yes, I understood that there would be no campaign. But, I didn’t realize that I would download the content and have absolutely nothing new to do on day 1. I honestly don’t believe that ANYONE expected to pay and download and then head directly back into the blind -blam!-ing well to do the same old shit they’ve been doing for months. Whether you’re cool with waiting or not, I honestly thought EVERYONE would agree that something exciting should have happened on day 1. But I guess not??? Even after Osiris I was excited to jump into Warmind to get new weapons and armor. But this... this has been the most anti-climactic dlc release ever. If a Zero excitement, wait-and-see approach is the future of dlc, I think I’ll find a new hobby. But, please, if you support this model, tell me why. Because this is probably the worst experience I’ve ever had with a video game, and I’ve played Superman 64. *edit: I appreciate most of the comments. I really wanted to understand how people weren’t disappointed. I can’t say I agree, but at least I understand a little bit better. To me, day 1 of any dlc should be exciting, and this one provided zero excitement. Seems like people who expected nothing on day 1 got what they paid for. I love the excitement of new content, so this model will never be okay with me. To the people who said I couldn’t read or I’m a deadbeat for being sad about $35... I’m sorry you missed the point, but thanks for the bumps. Much appreciated. • As someone that used to defend Bungie, I can say that they have definitely wasted my last dollar.

  • I support the drip content overtime because whenever I best the raid with my clan over 100 most of them stop playing after and I have little to no friends to play with... This technique should keep my friends list full of people I can play with. BUT I hate that we have to grind AGAIN because holy hell this is the slowest progression system and feels like I make little to no progress with powerful drops.

  • I like it, given I used to play a lot of mmos on PC so Black Armory doesn’t bother me in the slightest. I’ve got quests to grind for plus grinding to 610 to do the forge so I’ve got my hands full with stuff.

  • I spent about 3 hours banging out all my milestones for the week, and then went and cleared the forge on day 1. Its not really that difficult.

    • They always stated that they were going to do things differently this time around. Give them a chance to execute their vision. About the only point I agree with is that they should have let us start leveling up last week. I like that the story and game evolves over time.

    • I had a long drawn out message concerning my disappointment with Black Armory, but I figured I’d get straight to the points. The Forge is nothing more than strike in horde mode clothing and the community’s interest in matchmaking has always been for activities LARGER than three (3) people. Black Armory seems to have actually made playin’ Forsaken activities even worst. The Blind Well is unplayable as no one is able to group up for it (this is where TRUE matchmaking is needed) as all instances seem to be unpopulated. I could go on but I think these issues are a nice place to stop, at this moment. PS: If you’re bankin’ on the raid bein’ your savin’ grace… It MIGHT keep the content creators off your backs for a minute, but seein’ as 1.7% (on PS4) of Forsaken owners have finished Last Wish, I doubt this’ll be the case.

        • I paid $35 for a year of steady end game content, that's how, I'm also not a child or a deadbeat so $35 isn't a life altering investment.

          • I’m in it for the raid. That is the one activity here that I truly enjoy. I am excited for its release tomorrow and my blind run team is leveled up and ready to go. That’s good enough for me. I spent $55 on a move and snacks for me and my 2 kids last night. $35 for what will end up being hours and hours of fun is more than worth it. Be a glass half full person. Do I wish they had something new to see and do? Sure I do. Am I in a bad mode bc they don’t. Not really.

            • They should have raised the cap before release if the release required higher levels, period. What they did was dangle a carrot in our face that we couldn't possibly reach, and by design... What they did was build a perpendicular on-ramp to an existing highway. Even with raids, they give you an acceleration ramp, but with this, they literally dropped you into fast-moving traffic while stalled...

            • how are people defending a price tag of $35? 3 DLC's is $35 but Forsaken is $40? Doesn't make too much sense but ok

It's not big enough of a deal to me to defend it, or to sharply critique it at this point. As a regular player and AP owner, there's still plenty of other stuff in Forsaken alone, not Black Armory-related, that I can work on. The Black Armory stuff will always be there. I got my main character to max light before the end of the season, and did not have time to even beat the main campaign with my other two due to the myriad quests and activities available in D2:F I worked on til now, and I play almost every day for at least an hour or so. That should give you an idea of where I fall within the casual-hardcore spectrum. I literally do not care at all that I have to level a little more to be able to play the first Forge. The reason this game works, in my opinion, is because the core gameplay (i.e., the sandbox) is intrinsically fun. Casting supers is fun, landing crits is a blast, precision kills are reinforcing, jumping around on platforms is entertaining, connecting that final melee blow is great, stacking buffs during encounters is nice. On top of that, you get new toys and shiny things from doing the fun things in the game over and over again. Collecting meaningless loot out of chests is cool, picking up an engram that materialized out of an enemy corpse is neat, seeing that new emblem or gear piece pop up on the right side of the screen is good, finally getting that exotic you wanted is awesome. Essentially, I have to level up more (i.e., have fun with my friends and get new toys and goodies for doing it) before I can successfully beat the first forge (i.e., have fun with my friends and get new toys and goodies for doing it). Right now, I don't see the problem, especially if you are a player who likes to keep playing and continue to vertically progress. This pass is indicated as extensions to the endgame. TL;DR For me, the sandbox is fun, and getting rewards provides an extra layer of fun and engagement. So I don't mind needing to level up (have more fun) before I can beat the first forge (have more fun). I actually haven't even tried the forge yet because I was doing other stuff and having fun. IN CONCLUSION, I'll save my opinion of this model for releasing content toward the end of Season of the Forge because that's when we'll know whether we are getting enough bang(s) out of our buck(s). I think it's kind of silly to immediately label the AP as trash in the first couple of days.

                • Not really in defense of it, I just know what to expect when it comes to bungie. Truthfully I'm not even mad since I was going to be doing the same shit regardless. Not that big of a deal in my eyes.

Is there anyone left trying to defend bungie anymore??? Not even their staff can be bothered defending their decisions anymore. Just delusional people, those with stockholm syndrome and the plain crazies left doing any defending.

The main issue is Power level of the first forge. They should have upped the power cap last week so we could have been 610-615 going into this week, or lowered the power to 620 max. The forges should have been the primary, or at least a significant way for us to grind higher level in order to be prepared for the next. Additionally, the forge itself is kind of bland. We have EP, and Blind Well. I don't think we really needed another round-based horde mode. I would have far prefered some kind of new Gambit mode, perhaps using scoring and leaderboards for challenges instead of another boring "kill all the ads" mode. Aside from those criticisms it's about what I expected for the first piece of content in what is effectively a year-long subscription to Destiny Year 2, and not a traditional DLC content drop.

                    • Lol you said you can read but your expectations were way off. This is exactly what they said it would be, and honestly it’s a little bit more than what I thought it would be. Also, creating content is hard.

                    • I’m fine with the model. Curse and warminds campaigns were both half assed and left a lot of room for disappointment, especially by bringing in significant lore characters and doing almost nothing substantial with them. It’s new content and new lore without another ruined lore figure. And I’m not mad that the forge is hard, it’s endgame and it should be hard, but it’s upsetting that it’s nearly impossible at the light level we started at. A simple solution someone suggested was to raise the power level the week before black armory started just like how you could earn 400+ gear the week before forsaken. It was just poor planning on bungies part.
