• The only thing this trailer killed was what little remaining interest I had in Destiny. I fully understand the notion of killing off an important character in order to bring some sense of realism, or depth, to the universe. I really do, and it's not like it hasn't been done before in different franchises (TV, game, comic, etc) to great effect. However, the problem is in whom you chose to kill. It's not because I have any particular like for Cayde but because he is by far the most popular NPC in Destiny. Cayde's the only interesting character. Zavala's stuffy and boring, more so now that you've screwed up his opinion of Rasputin in Warmind. Ikora's a boring know-it-all. Neither ever made much of a connection with the player despite supposedly being mentor-type characters. The rest of the Tower figures might as well be vending machines for all the 'presence' they have. But Cayde, he embodied the player. He disregarded protocol when it suited him and did things his way, much as the player does. We do things our own way. We could relate to him. Look at popular television. When a character in an ensemble cast becomes a fan-favorite, they're usually elevated in prominence and are generally safe from any serious story negativity. This is because if the fan-favorite is taken away, the fans might just stop watching. If you need to off a character for some plot reason, you pick a lesser-liked but still relevant character. You had 2 opportunities to do this, with Zavala and Ikora (who are the only other NPCs that qualify as 'relevant', if only barely) but you didn't. You took away the fan favorite. Yeah, it's done some good as was intended: you've got a lot of people angry and itching to get their digital vengeance. But for others, like me, you took away the only thing remotely interesting in this game. I have no interest anymore. Another thing is that you shouldn't have shown this at all. In effect, you've not revealed the story: you've spoiled it. The shock and anger players are experiencing right now is something that should have happened after launch, when that moment happened in-game. In effect, you've just told us that Vader's Luke's dad. No point in participating now: we know the twist. You cashed in that surprise far too early. I hope it works out for you Bungie, I really do, but your track record is not promising.
