If you’re reading this, you’re a part of our creative process at Bungie. The players have always been our partners at Bungie. It’s my job to make sure that continues to be true – more than ever before.
I see a lot of questions about what happens behind closed doors in our studio. I want to share some information with you about how Feedback is gathered here. Some of you have wondered what happens when great ideas or important issues are posted here on the Feedback forum.
When I first started as your Community Manager, I would send targeted feedback to specific developers. For example: When the community was reporting problems with Ogres teleporting, I sent your reports directly to the Raid team. That issue was later fixed in a patch. I'm not taking any credit for that. The community identified the problem, and the Raid team made the fix.
I still do this direct messaging whenever it makes sense, but my reports have evolved overtime. I was asked to create a general report about the Destiny community, including the overall sentiment, hot topics of discussion, and requests for changes/additions to the game. The bulk of those insights are sourced right here on this forum. I initially sent these reports to the creative leadership. A few months ago, I was asked by Pete (CEO) to expand the audience to include everyone at Bungie.
Now, you may be asking "Why don't you give us regular reports of the status of our requests?"
It can be complicated to comment on development work until an update or a hot fix is certified and ready to go. Game design is too turbulent to support public promises. Early ideas and plans are like sea turtles hatching on the beach. Many of them will never find their way to the sea. If there is a good idea on the forum, odds are it may have lived and died on one of our whiteboards. Or, it could even be in some stage of development. The best promises we can make about these things come in the form of patch notes – once they’ve made it into the water.
There are millions of players that all have various opinions on what Destiny should be. There are also hundreds of developers who have various opinions on what Destiny should be. It's not easy sorting through both sets to come up with final decisions, but we like including your feedback in the process, and appreciate you taking the time to share it with us.
If you keep sharing your ideas and opinions with us, I’ll keep working to build that bridge between you and the people who make the things you love. You’re the most important part of what we do, and there are more people listening to what you say now more than ever. Keep it up!

Question: Is it possible to have the older raids relevant?
-
1 ReplyActually our opinions are all quite uniform Same stuff we've been asking for over a year
-
124 RepliesLet's also talk about the value of "anecdotal feedback." Somehow, that became a dirty word around here, and it really shouldn't be. If I'm guilty of creating the misperception that anecdotes about Destiny aren't valuable, allow me to set the record straight. Anecdotes are personal stories or observations - just the sort of thing that we find on this forum. That stuff is wildly important to us. We have data for how every Guardian spends their time in the game. We know what you play and what you use, but all the statistics in the world can't tell us you really feel. We need your war stories and opinions to give us context. We need your anecdotes to learn about your visceral reactions to your experiences in the game. There are definitions in dictionaries that skew towards anecdotal information being unreliable, but I don't deal in science. This forum helps us understand our audience, and entertainment is all about emotions. We want to know how a game effects you, and your anecdotes are the only vehicle for that. The next time you hear me talking about "anecdotal feedback," please know that I'm talking about the currency in which we deal. Stories are how the individual offsets the numbers. Look at my writing. It's all anecdotes. Peace.

Repairing destiny is quite simple. Load up destiny beta play it and then put that in year 2. Stop being lazy and split pvp and pve! People may want balance in pvp but us pve players want overpowered kill everything power!

7 RepliesEdited by TIMMYHAS2TOES: 7/13/2016 3:14:16 PMthe missing exotics from the taken king trailer were are they are they going to be patched in or left out (false advertising is a crime bungie) i'm guessing by the down votes fanboys don't care there being cheated out of content that was advertised you really are a bunch of idiots
-
1 ReplySo it sounds to me like the devs will just make this game how they want and if they see an idea from the community that they may like also, they might put it in. Rather than listen to what the community actually has to say, the ones playing this game daily, the devs rely on what the devs think is best. Legit

Got a feed back e-mail but alas as I try to open is says it is closed

Cozmo I understand what your saying about letting us know what the developers think of our ideas. But at the same time letting us know if something is being looked into, or even if they have a comment about the idea would go a long way. I'm not saying you should reveal ANYTHING. For example let's say you take an idea for redesigning your guardians face. You take it to the proper people and their first comment is "That's an interesting idea" Just telling us that they thought it was a good idea doesn't reveal anything. It doesn't make any promises. But at least the person who submitted the idea is going to know that his idea was looked at. Doesn't mean by any means it is going to happen. The guardian is going to move on to other ideas. Its going to promote more people to bring forth ideas and explain them rather then what we have now. Its going to let people know that the developers at least looked at the idea.

28 RepliesEdited by Hamlet76: 7/13/2016 4:40:31 AMThe most pressing issue for me with Destiny in its current state is that the feeling of power is being sucked out of this game with every patch. In year one weapons and subclasses felt powerful and exotics were something to look forward to--something to hunt endlessly for. Eventually getting that one exotic was a moment of great joy that lived in the memories of you and your team. We felt special and the work we put in translated into a feeling of power. That feeling of power has been ripped away from us. In year one there were so many abilities, exotics and weapons that bolstered our confidence as your guardians. Gear felt powerful and we were incentivized to pursue end-game activities in order to acquire the best gear. It made end-game activities something that we looked forward to every week at reset. Currently end-game gear is little more than infusion fuel. Exotics feel impotent and boring. Running raids for gear you almost always immediately trash undermines everything that games like this are built upon. It feels like the prevalent attitude at Bungie is that you know what we want and we don't. It almost seems like you're working against us at every turn. It doesn't help that we hear so little about your design philosophies. We're often blindsided by your decisions and your claims that we're being heard seem like little more than lip service. There is very little interaction with the community apart from weekly updates steeped in vagaries and lacking in any real information. I do my best to empathize--to understand what you're going through as a development team. If you click on my profile you'll see that I've been a loyal Bungie customer for almost ten years. I've been here since Halo: CE. I've been around for the flying warthogs of Halo 2 and the standbyers. I've been here for your great successes and your occasional missteps. I've been here for everything. And I'm still here. You say that you're listening and that our feedback means more than ever. If this is true, you need to start acting like it.

2 RepliesCozmo, that's bullshit and you know it. The only part the community plays in updates is which guns get nerfed. That's all you guys listen to. You cater to little bitches who cry for nerfs. Ice Breaker didn't need to be nerfed, Gally didn't need to be nerfed, Tripmines didn't need to be nerfed, Sunsinger duration didn't need to be nerfed, and the list goes on. You guys are constantly -blam!-ing up PvE to cater to PvP (I play both, so I'm not biased toward either group, it's just obvious as all hell that PvE is the one getting screwed over). You guys don't let us bring all of our raid gear to 335 Light, which shouldn't even be an argument. I paid $20 for TDB and $20 for HoW and literally none of the gear matters anymore. The raids are pointless to do, and it's bullshit that we pay money for things you just nullify 5 months later. And I'm sure that the $40 I spent on TTK is going to be wasted, since when RoI comes out, the light level will be raised and TTK gear will be left behind as well. You guys seriously have no idea how to keep a game interesting. You survive they microtransactions and forcing players to spend more money if they want to enjoy content they already paid for. So don't -blam!-ing stand there and tell us that we have a voice in Bungie. In the end, you just do what you want and you ruin the game by catering to cry babies who want every -blam!-ing thing nerfed.

2 RepliesCozmo, you're a good community manager man. I believe it when you say you try etc. This game is hurting. I used to play all the time but I have stopped almost 100% in the last 2-3 months. I don't plan on buying new content. Why? Because you're trying to design two games in one. You balance pve weapons to be used in pvp. This is a problem for me. I like blowing up aliens. It's why I bought the game. I want to complete quests and get a stupidly good unbalanced wrecking ball explosion weapon. I don't give a shit if it kills one guy in the cruicible too quick. Don't care. I want to kill aliens and I've yet to hear one of them complain. Second. The raids have lost all value. Primarily because of the loss of burn primaries and weapon balancing. If I beat the hardest thing, I want to get something that's awesome! Not balanced. Balanced is boooooooring! The word itself is boring. Sit down and say "balanced" a couple of times to yourself and I bet you'll be bored out of your mind! This is a supernatural alien killing VIDEO GAME, not a game of chess. At the moment the only feeling your game stirs is indifference. It used to be excitement. Good luck with your next dlc.

2 RepliesEdited by Knoss: 7/13/2016 10:21:55 PMHello there. First of all, my mother tongue is Spanish so please excuse me if you find some mistakes within this message. Thanks for sharing this with your community. We really appreciate communication. It's perhaps the most valuable thing ever in the gaming industry along with honesty. I will strongly recommend to further improve a few things I personally consider a nr. 1 priority. I am no spokesman but I think most people within the community are concerned about these general issues. Most of them won't be logical until the next Destiny game comes out. 1. You've learned enough from us since the Destiny vanilla launch. Please make a roadmap that doesn't lead to confusion anymore and share it with us. Plan how many DLCs are we receiving within a year of time and what can we expect to see next. Plan the size and pricing for these DLCs and tell us about it. There's a lot of difference between Destiny vanilla, The Dark Below/ House of Wolves, The Taken King, Eververse and limited time events, and Rise of Iron. Please aim for something simple, easy to understand, logical and easily malleable. Different balance for PvP and PvE in pretty much everything is weird. Adding microtransactions for limited events we no longer know about is weird. Bug fixes and simple UI improvements are slow processes. Expect things coming up and build the game ready to face these problems from the very beginning. 2. Be more talkative with us. Before Destiny was launched worldwide we had a small Bungie Mail Sack to ask questions in every Weekly Update. We no longer have that. We are not communicating properly. Your efforts in Twitch are strongly appreciated --thanks for that. But it would definitely be cool to dedicate a full video to explain how matchmaking works. Or how you build worlds. Whatever you want to share is cool.
Now, you may be asking "Why don't you give us regular reports of the status of our requests?" It can be complicated to comment on development work until an update or a hot fix is certified and ready to go. Game design is too turbulent to support public promises.
There's no need to make a public promise. It'd be cool if you said "we know this issue and we're figuring out how to fix it", but the fact of asking, replying, sharing, asking us to ask you. All of this is cool. Keeping silent on your plans for a year is definitely not cool. If you manage to build a studio that talks and listens to the community, and a living, social game that is thought to be built along with us, I'm absolutely sure you will deserve our heart's deepest gratitude, interest and time. There's a lot of games out there, but Destiny is one very special. You've gathered our dedication. Please give us your commitment.

3 RepliesI've been doing the bungie bounties since day one, (Xbox) and have never seen anyone represented by bungie. I know the chances are slim to begin with but what are the chances of getting matched up when you are on the east coast. Bungie bounties on Xbox = ultra rare Getting matched to them = really low
If you keep sharing your ideas and opinions with us, I’ll keep working to build that bridge between you and the people who make the things you love. You’re the most important part of what we do, and there are more people listening to what you say now more than ever. Keep it up!
Cosmo, we appreciate your efforts. Please don't take this the wrong way. I understand you are just one man, a messenger, in the grand scheme of things, and I am sure other people can understand that as well. But you can keep dragging that horse to water, but you can't make it drink. Since the launch of TTK, people have been begging for the return of elemental primaries. People have been begging for the PVP nerfs which negatively impact PVE to stop. People have made the case hundreds of times that PVP needs to be completely bifurcated from PVE because their interests just diverge too much. Time and time again, our requests are ignored. Over a years worth of patches have not brought the return of elemental primaries. Each patch only brings more PVP nerfs which make our guardians weaker in both the PVP and PVE world. Each of these issues don't enhance fun, they destroy fun! And fun is why we play the game. It is mind boggling that the developers would continue to look at things that are fun and nerf them into the ground due to perceived overpopularity. I could literally spend hours talking about other legitimate issues people raise on these forums, all of which could be addressed fairly simply in the current version of Destiny. However, I'm only highlighting two of MY biggest peevs. If something is being used/overused, you have done very well for yourselves! Pat yourselves on the back! Use those weapons/abilities as a benchmark for BUFFING other abilities so that we actually have to make choices. Why should I have to deviate from using Tripmine when, even in its nerfed state, its still HANDS DOWN better than the other grenades available to me? If you find a skill or weapon being under-used, come to us before you make changes to it. Figure out WHY nobody wants to use it. And change it accordingly. I know Bungie is a big fan of diversity, but do the devs (I'm mainly looking at Jon Wisniewski) not really understand that rotating meta KILLS diversity by making one or two weapons have a competitive advantage over all other weapons? Seriously. I DON'T WANT to use a high RoF PR. I don't like them, period. I shouldn't be at a competitive disadvantage if I don't want to use one. Nor should anyone be at a competitive disadvantage if they don't use the current meta. If it takes you guys 5 months, so be it. Just make every weapon and ability strong and viable and then stop making so many changes to the weapons/abilities. I understand you will have to make SOME changes as new weapons and perks are released, but those can be made through minor patches which target the specific weapon or perk that is at issue. But never should you nerf an entire class of weapons because ONE weapon in that class is outperforming everything else. Just make it a weapon-specific tune. And don't make it so drastic that it can't be good in PVP and PVE. Just bring it more in line with all the others. Quite literally, the tug of war between PVP and PVE is what is killing this game. In Y1 we ground our butts off for fantastic weapons. Almost every endgame weapon made you go "HOLY @#@#$#@!!!! That was awesome!" when you shot something with it in PVE. Now? Every gun feels virtually the same - all equally weak! There are no guns that excite in PVE, and we are still plagued with the same issues in PVP - were all the nerfs really worth it then at the end of the day when people are leaving this game because it is no longer fun? The amount of content released with each DLC can be finished in less than a week. What keeps us playing is FUN endgame activities to obtain elite loot. And when we have said elite loot, we want to have a BLAST using elite loot. When i finish a raid, I should receive at least ONE difference making weapon, whether it be a raid weapon or exotic. It should be flipping amazing, sought after for its prowess in combat, NOT for its infusion value. Something that is going to significantly boost my firepower. As it stands now, no raid weapon is going to be better than ANY weapon that I have in my arsenal right now. Finally, and I may diverge from the rest of the community on this one, Bungie has lost me as a fan and a consumer. I've supported Bungie since the release of Halo CE. I'm STILL playing Halo today because all the Halo's are flipping amazing. But I can no longer justify spending money on this game when current management continues to erode what makes this game fun. I really need to see changes to this game to show me things are going in the RIGHT direction before I spend another dime on Destiny. If I don't buy RoI, it is ultimately the fault of Luke Smith, Jon Wisniewski, Merrill Sage, and other developers who make controversial, game-changing decisions which have ultimately turned out to make the game far less fun than it was back in Y1.

Edited by Ankokuseibutsu: 7/14/2016 2:55:35 AMMake freelance a permanent option available from your personal matchmaking settings so you don't ever have to face full fireteams, or fireteams in general... in any playlist you choose... Also, add an algorithm that puts full fireteams with other full fireteams so they can test out their actual teamwork and communication instead of looking to pubstomp for rep and k/d boosting. I despise that way of playing with a passion. That way solo players can have fun solo, and team players can see how viable their strategies and setups are in a fair way vs other teams doing the same. Everyone gets what they want. One day I literally matched the same 6man team at least 15 times throughout the night and all they were doing was spawn trapping in rift for kills refusing the pick up the spark and just kd farming and teabagging the entire time. Even when I would back out, it would put me back in the same game I backed out of, and they'd mercy rule, and I'd still match up with them the next search. The worst thing was I couldn't choose not to match with them. I should have that option. I don't want to feel bullied into playing a playlist I don't want to just to avoid a pubstomping team of players with rotten personalities and no solo skill confidence. Make the premade teams stay in orbit waiting for another 6 man team. Don't penalize the solo player for wanting to just quietly kill using the sounds in game. I bet you have more people like me than premade teams. Make the premades feel like they should sweat with other teams if they think their team is so good. This brings me to another request. Show how many players are playing in that playlist in your region and worldwide, and set an estimated wait time and remove mongoose errors. I don't mind waiting longer for matches if I know I'll be getting quality matches with green bars and no fireteams.

This is by far the worst state of the crucible I have ever seen

2 RepliesEdited by Anedime: 7/14/2016 3:14:28 AMThat's just a lie to pacify the community though, isn't it? 10 months since the Firefly started crashing destiny and its STILL happening. Nearly Two years since the faction ships with holes with them were introduced and they STILL have holes in them. You're telling me a game crashing bug or a consistent visual glitch weren't important enough to even acknowledge for over a year, let alone fix? So are you lying or are the priorities messed up, because half my inventory having the potential to crash my game every time I land a headshot (Which the game has incentivized us to do since before day 1) or looking at a loading screen and thinking "Even chinese MMOs that spring up over night have more consistence" Those aren't things that should persist across multiple expansions. Has there been a single fan that has supported the removal of shader effect on class items? Yet this was never so much as mentioned. At the chagrin of every single player when the Nightfall bonus was removed in its entirety and faction reputation rates driven into the ground, this hasn't been acknowledged.. Hell, I've been missing my Sign of the Elders Emblem for the beta, I never received it, and since day one all attempts at trying to get it have resulted nothing but "Bungie doesn't recover lost items" how is that friendly or helpful? Considering you never gave it to me in the first place. I could go on, but the simple fact is Bungie has consistently tried to paint itself as a company that's community friendly, that's engaged and communicates with the community, but at every step you've ended up actually looking tonedeaf, from not acknowledging major issues all the way down to tasteless comments from your own staff like Luke Smith's infamous "throw money at the screen" line. I think the only company that has you beat in being more detached from reality is Konami. It always comes down to "we're not making promises" But nobody's asking for promises, we're just asking for acknowledgement, just a hint that someone somewhere is actually aware of the myriad of problems that plague this game at every level. So if you and DeeJ are not enough to cover everything than get a third person, or start getting volunteers in the forums to sift though complaints and write reports, I'm sure there are plenty qualified people in the playerbase, and I'm sure most people would be more than happy to contribute for free, if not for a simple emblem or something, so maybe you focus on engaging the community at a deeper level, things like "Bungie is a company that listens to and engages its community" That's something other people should tell about you, not something you should say about yourself. You're doing the equivalent of me making a post and saying "Anedime is so smart and observant." Because all I'm hearing are excuses, not solutions.

The best promises we can make about these things come in the form of patch notes – once they’ve made it into the water.
I really wish you guys, DeeJ and Cozmo, would look towards Jeff Kaplan over on the Overwatch Team at Blizzard. Granted he is an actual game designer and not a community manager, but he has done a superb job communicating with the You guys have done a lot better than year one with communication(especially better than the end of year one....) Jeff has gone ahead and addressed the elephant in the room and talked about the developer/gamer relationship. Game Designers are particularly scared of revealed the projects they are working on for the exact reason you stated in this post. People see something they're working on and take it as, "This is definitely gonna be in the game" and they get mad if it is not. Things change in development and things get cut. That's how it is. Jeff said they would love to openly discuss projects and ideas with their community but it's taboo to do so and that is something they hope to change. They want an intake relationship between developer and gamer but it works both ways. The community has to be understanding of the development process and realize that an idea is not final and stuff happens. And playing destiny for almost 2 yrs now with 2000 plus hours and damn near reading the forums every day, it seems that this is what the destiny community wants. We want you to be open with us, we want to know what your doing. We hate it when you guys go silent for literally 5 to 6 months, it breeds toxicity. We hate that you don't talk about that matchmaking and we hate that things that have been bothering us since day one are still in the game, but god forbid there's a farming cheese, better fix that in two hours. There's a reason that everytime the database is updated, it getting data mined. We're desprete for information. Gonna go on a Jeff Kaplan praise fest but please bear with me. Overwatch has been out for little over a month and the development team is engaged in near DAILY conversations with the community. They respond to tweets, Reddit posts, and forum post. They put their competitive play beta out (called PTR) and with a day or two they started discussing with the community on how a certain aspect of overtime was unfair. A day later, Jeff wrote a detailed post on how they would try and fix it for the official release and what they were planning on doing for future releases. He has also gone on record to discuss the EXACT method of how their matchmaking works and why they went with SBMM and then went on to share his personal thoughts, separate from his company and how he felt as a player. And that's just the tip of the iceberg Seriously Bungie we want you to be more open with us. Communicate with us. Let us know what's going on PLEASE! We don't like sitting in the dark and hearing," Well discuss this more later this summer..." or "... next week!...." Please at least try and if it doesn't work then at least we know that this community isn't ready. I know you guys care about this game and it's community so please try and be more open. Thank you @DeeJ @Cozmo

90 RepliesEdited by rapiemur: 7/12/2016 6:19:29 AM
There are also hundreds of developers who have various opinions on what Destiny should be.
Herein lies what can be described as one of the most significant problems from day one. You cannot claim that Destiny's development is primarily based off of the community and is indeed community minded/focused when you have people in your organization like Luke Smith and Jon Wisnewski simply making changes to the game off of what they think the game should turn into. What is worse is then they believe that the community should just openly accept those changes and be happy about them because in their "infinite wisdom" that is what they decided was necessary. This principle encompasses weapon nerfs, to content removal/obsolescence and adjustments that everyone here is indeed familiar with. If Bungie developers really and truly want to get in touch with the community (which I really do not believe they do or they wouldn't have done the actions they have), they would have you run polls about development decisions such as nerfs/buffs, content addition, and in game mechanics, not to mention actually implementing the paramount suggestions provided to you already by the community. Blindsiding your player base with controversial game development decisions on a routine basis does not make for friendly relations with your consumers in any shape or form. Prior communication from developers has been dubious and piecemeal at best, and dishonest at worst. The community is often left in a quandary over the direction the game is going as there really is no stability in it, particularly surrounding weapon metrics and content. If relations are to improve, transparency will be an important aspect to that and needs to be addressed. What it comes down to is either you are going to make a game based off of what your community provides suggestions on from their experiences in the game, or you are simply going to make one based off of studio decisions. Bungie needs to decide which avenue they are going to take, state it, and then just do it.

Thank you for this thread! I don't play religiously, but as a long time Bungie fan starting all the way back at Marathon, I feel that I'm pretty familiar with your company's work. I know that Bungie always strives to make amazing games and consider player feedback and I can see the work put into your games. I love Destiny, but I have definitely noticed a fundamental shift in the company. I know that you cannot please everyone, but as time goes by Destiny has alienated players through odd design choices. I can see changes that are in response to fan feedback, but many more simply serve to detract from an amazing game. Things I would like to see in Destiny: -Return of elemental primaries, -Exotic weapons that do something unique (not just random ammo perks like precision hits return rounds), -Vehicle encounters (not on the scale of Halo, but more inclusion of drive able vehicles), -All armor and weapons infusable, -Artifacts that provide a useful bonus, -Class items that have the option to take shaders or not, -Class items that add extra light, but once everything else is at max light, the item is not required to be max light, -Blue items that can be upgraded to legendary with the addition of some kind of material, -No more stupid rotating metas, -5% damage increase to all base damage stats for everything except damage buffs, -Bigger areas to explore (2x the size of what they are now), -Custom games, -Map voting, -More special and heavy ammo in Crucible, but, -A buff to primary damage, -last, but not least, dedicated servers! Thanks for reading! I didn't think any of these things would have been an issue, but this game has changed... Even if none of these things is changed, think these points are the big issues I have seen mentioned in the Destiny community and it would be nice to get some answers as to why these ideas haven't or have been addressed...
