Modding concerns for Fallout 4

First and foremost, PC people, go away. Your modding community is great. Mods are finally coming to Fallout on consoles in the 4th installment in the series. I'm pretty pumped, but a few things scare me... 1. Will you have to pay for mods? 2. Will there be a multiplayer mod? 3. If there is a multiplayer mod, with the multiplayer mod, will you have to have the same mods to be compatible with a game you're trying to join? 4. Will there be game-breaking mods? 5. If there are game-breaking mods, will Bethesda do anything about them? 6. Will there be ways to prevent from downloading mods that your console can't handle (like a warning screen)? 7. Will there ways to uninstall mods? Those are my concerns about modding in Fallout 4 for consoles. Feel free to post your questions in the comments.

  • According to what they said the only mods available will be ones directly from their website. So game breaking ones probably won't be accessible. As a majority PC player, those mods typically will be restricted to us. Hopefully it works similar to PC. I'm excited for console players. You finally get a taste of what makes games great and will add additional longevity. If this becomes a trend and other game developers follow, us gamers will win. I'll probably pick up a copy on my Xbox to see if there is a difference between access of mods. Kudos to you and have fun out there.

There more than likely won't be any multiplayer mods because it's not likely that consoles could handle loading the same world at once without losing something in the process. Also, I imagine there'll be some sort of testing (either team or system) that will evaluate each mod that they decide to try and put through to console to see if the Xone or Ps4 would be able to handle them. Edit: and I'm sure there will be ways to uninstall or turn off mods. And what do you mean by "game-breaking"? As in "get everything now breaking, or crashes game and can't start up again breaking?

      • Don't be surprised if console mods do cost money. I'm not saying they will, but they very likely could. No there will not be multiplayer mod support on the ps4 or xbone. Even if there are multiplayer mods available they will require server access. Since these mods will use user created servers it will be highly unlikely that microsoft or sony would allow you to connect to "unauthorized" servers, not to mention the fact that this would also introduce crossplay between all three platforms; microsoft and sony will not like this. Mods on the ps4 and xbone will be very, very limited. Anything that replaces textures with higher resolution textures, better lighting, enb, better character models, custom animations, and anything that requires a script extender can almost certainly be ruled out. So you'll basically be limited to standalone follower mods, weapons, armor, and maybe some quest mods. But a lot of quest mods will require script extenders, so being generous maybe 50% of quest mods will be available. So to put that into perspective; my Skyrim has about 150 active mods. Only 13 of those would work on a ps4 or xbone if the same ideas are applied to a hypothetical skyrim on current gen.

      • Supposedly any mod available on console will need to be approved by Bethesda beforehand. Demanding graphics mods and the likes likely won't be on console, so no worries.
