First off, I'm prepared for the stream of "butt-hurt, git gud scrub" etc. replies and the attacks on my K/D record. I don't claim to be an all-pro PvP player, just someone who has been playing and observing what happens in the Crucible long enough to have a valid opinion. Come at me, bro.
Now to the topic:
Shotguns that kill in 1 or 2 shots at close range are NOT the problem in Iron Banner (or in Control matches generally). Nor are Titans who have an attack that kills one or two opponents per hit, cannot be aimed, runs down over time, runs out really fast when used, and is easy to see coming.
The problems are sniper rifles (no matter who's using them) and Nightstalkers.
Let me explain why I believe this.
SNIPER RIFLES
I have no problem with being killed by a shotgun user. That player is running the risk of being killed before getting into range to use his shotgun. It's a fair fight, and shotguns have terrible aim assist as far as I can tell. At the range where they're used, enemies are moving around so much that aiming isn't generally a factor anyway. It's a knife fight in a phone booth.
Snipers in Destiny, especially in a Control match, often have to do nothing but sit down over the line that enemies have to travel in order to get to a zone, put the crosshairs at head height, then wait for the aim assist to tell them to pull the trigger. 2 snipers on a map like Pantheon whose team manages to grab zone B first can simply camp and dominate the main lanes, using no skill, just positioning and twitch reflexes.
People complain about the lack of skill needed for a shotgun, but what of a sniper rifle which has 0 scope wobble? Do Guardians have the ability to infinitely hold their breath? I would not mind snipers in PvP if they had even this tiny element of realism. As it is, when you see the lens flare, it's already too late to do anything about it.
NIGHTSTALKERS
Admit it. Your super is as OP as you claim Sunbreakers' powers are. Your entire BUILD is OP. You have a grenade that blinds the enemies it doesn't kill, while turning you invisible. You have a Super that seems to last longer than the Hammer of Sol, comes out of nowhere, and is- in my humble opinion- much worse than any other super attack. The very BEST you can get is to be killed by it. Half of the time, rather than just decently killing you outright, so you can get on with respawning, it glues you in place, drains your super, drains your grenade, kills your radar, turns your world purple, and makes you a sitting duck. It makes me miss Thorn poisoning.
Even Nightstalkers' movement mode is OP. Why the hell does this subclass get an evasion move, that NO other class gets (unless the player buys the "Safe!" emote)?
And you Hunters are filling the forum with complaints about Titans, because they finally got a subclass that has a ranged Super attack.
For the record- THIS IS NOT A NERF POST. Keep your sniper rifles. Keep your Shadowshot. Have fun with them. But for the love of crap, quit complaining that the weapons and the class you DON'T use should be nerfed, while you yourself go blithely on being ridiculously powerful! Look honestly at yourself. Look at how many Hunters are running NS right now. It's almost every one you see, and for the same reason almost every Titan is a SB (Sunbreaker, not sonofabitch)- it's the most powerful subclass there is right now. There's even an exploit for it, I hear.
QUIT begging for other classes to be nerfed. They're not the problem; or, if they are, you're equally part of it.

As someone who mains a warlock and has used both a sniper and a shotgun this iron banner I think you are wrong. Sniping involves aiming I miss shots with a sniper and I hit shots with my sniper. Using my shotgun though I just run straight at people and there's not really any strategy. I'm not saying nerf shotguns I think they are fine where they are and are easy to counter if you play it right. Also hammer of sol is the best pvp super, don't even argue, and the only thing wrong with night stalker is the glitch which I did not see anyone using.

1 ReplyEdited by Cade: 10/17/2015 4:17:35 PMSo many weak arguments. Charging with a shotgun holds very little risk, especially on maps like Twilight Gap and Anomaly where the lines of sight are short. Snipers require precision shots to used effectively and can be easily thrown off by simply shooting them. Shadowshot lasting longer than Hammer of Sol must be a joke. The smoke bomb either hardly blinds people or gives you an awful invisibility cloak. Hammer of Sol can wipe out an entire side of a map with ease, especially on maps where short lines of sight make team shooting difficult.

Oh look, another Titan main complaining about Hunters, surprise surprise....

I don't think SG's are as bad as they once were as there is more diversity now. I've started using fusions again and like em for close quarters. Just gotta have one with a decent charge rate. OHK at the proper range. What can be annoying about SG's is if your are shooting a rusher in the face with a pulse or assault rifle, and said player runs straight into your fire and kills you with one shot with a shotty. Backing up and laying into them will sometimes work, but if your sighted in and committed to shooting then your "Fracked"!!!

3 RepliesHammer of Sol is OP and currently far outclasses all other supers (I am a Warlock, so no bias here). Snipers are not a problem. Use a grenade to momentarily blind them or make them move, stay behind cover and call your allies to help, do running and jumping moves till you escape, use almost any super, or just pull out a sniper of your own and kill them. So many ways to kill a sniper...

1 ReplyTerrible arguments Only problem is people not capturing zones
-
12 RepliesI'd argue that shotguns take much less skill than camping with a sniper. Shotgun users just run up to someone and pull the trigger. Sniping, however, requires careful aim amidst enemy fire. Additionally, snipers have to be aware of their surroundings so that they don't get flanked. A bad sniper can easily killed by a shotgun flanker.

Seeing as we were rezzurected from the dead and are basically zombies I would assume we don't breath. Or at least have the potential to not need to breath, we also don't have a pulse and so there would be no sway or jiggle on a sniper. Just an observation :)

Lol Can't be aimed ? Are you a retard
-
The problem is the loot drop rate
-
3 RepliesLol everyone that's disagrees here mains a hunter... I find that HILARIOUS.

Edited by MiTCH: 10/17/2015 5:36:56 PMI'd rather get sniped than shotgunned any day anytime anywhere. Shotguns are -blam!-ing obnoxious. I wish they could just be removed from PvP. I tried to stop using them to start sniping, but every time I just get blink shotgunned still or shotgun a mile down a hallway. These kids just can't let them go, or there precious blink. There's no skill anymore. I message people who snipe and thank them for not being a shotgun whore. Just imagine how bad blink shotty will be with that warlock helmet whenever people get it.
-
Edited by Juliano: 10/17/2015 8:43:20 AMYou got it all wrong. It's not the guns or abilities, it's the player abusing them. But what can you expect from the narrow minded... Anything for that one extra kill.
-
5 RepliesYou said aiming isnt a factor....what? So shotgunners should be commended for not needing to aim to kill while sniper should be scorned for nailing u in the dome from across the map? That makes no sense As for hunters. Yeah it sucks getting pinned by one but if you didnt notice, you can still easily kill them after being hit. If you are in your super you can still throw a hammer at em and kill em before ur super being shut down. If anything the shadow shot is underpowered for what it is supposed to be
-
Snipers should not stay zoomed in when you get shot
-
Yea they are

Yes night-stalkers are a problem right now with the glitch... Everyone knows that, and everyone knows that titans will be the problem again after the glitch is patched
-
Exos don't breathe. That's why I don't have scope sway when I'm sniping.
-
Oh look another PvE player complaining and asking for a nerf
-
2 RepliesVery inaccurate analysis and I would remove the "competative" tag, as it for sure does not apply to the games you seem to play. Have learn to snipe in Destiny, I can say it is way much harder to get consistent headshots, than blinking in/slide and shotgun. The latter is a cheap trick which even the densest persons on these forums will master in just a couple of games. Hardscoping/camping snipers? Not a problem, they get easily killed because camping and very little kills because hardscoping in one place. Nightstalker? Currently OP because of the glitch. In normal situations I like GG better and even BD Quickdraw + blink).

Buuuuuump

2 RepliesLag is the biggest killer of PVP. I can barely play anymore without getting the Baboon error. People are jumping around like they are on speed. It is crazy. I have the fastest speed available from Xfinity and I still get booted from pvp. I would put up with cheaters and OP powers just to have a clean, non lagging game.
-
That's why I run gunslinger for PvP and Nightstalker for PvE.
-
For me the the biggest problem is pulse rifles, they are the new "Thorn". They have an insane optimal range. I like auto rifles and not even att close range, where it should melt an oponent, the auto rifle is no match against a pulse....

Shotguns are he problem tho, I hoped in 3 games and every time tho opposing teams kills were pretty much all shotguns
