This could well be happening, and some idiots are already supporting it.

Final Edit: Originally this post was supposed to focus on how the community was preemptively defending the addition of microtransactions, but at almost 1,000 replies later, it's kind of mutated into something else. Also, I probably won't be responding to anything in this thread anymore. It's outlived its purpose, so just let it die. Recent data mining has revealed some new items in the form of consumables that buff things like XP gain and drop rates. It is still speculation at this point, but the timing of these items along with a few other clues points to most of (if not all) these items being available for purchase at the Eververse trading company. Let me say it again; this is currently mere speculation, but fairly well informed speculation nonetheless. AND PEOPLE ARE ALREADY DEFENDING IT They are saying the benefits are small, don't really matter or give anyone any sort of an edge (already bullshit.) But seriously, though. In response to an argument I've already seen far too many times: Pay-to-win does not actually mean pay to win. It means paying real money to get an advantage over those who chose not to. We payed $140 dollars for this game with the expectation of being put on a level playing field, fairly competing for in-game goods with the expectation that effort must be put in to get what we want out. In a game in which, from launch, it was made clear that while the game was free, players could (and would be encouraged to) exchange real money for in game goods, this system works and is perfectly acceptable. But this distinction must be made clearly and immediately. For Bungievision to now be blurring the lines between the two, while enjoying the benefits of both, is unacceptable. By the way, notice how things have been going around here for the last few days? First, it was "I'm okay with emotes, but shaders should stay as things we earn." Next, "I'm okay with cosmetic items, but nothing that will help in gameplay." And now, it's "I'm okay with small beneficial items, but nothing too big." So then, what's next? Sooner or later, this is happening. Take a stand. And now, a message for Bungie: Very soon, Destiny will be facing quite a bit of new competition from games like Fallout 4, Black Ops 3, etc. This is no time to be testing the loyalty of your community. There has already been a large outcry against this, and many players have already threatened to leave. Please, Bungie. Don't do this to yourselves, to destiny. (I'm still not entirely convinced this isn't all just a plot by Activision to get people to jump ship to BO:3.) And if any of this does come true, my fellow guardians, have fun on Bungievision's wild ride to an empty game.
Sorry if this all seemed a bit incohesive. I just wanted to get this all out there.
EDIT: I think quite a few points being brought up can be explained by reading the following comment chain in this thread: https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/162643536/0/0/1 View replies, read original comment first, then my rebuttal, and so on. EDIT 2: The drop-rate buff items have been denied on Twitter, but all points made here are still valid both on principal alone, and if/when this is considered in the future. But this is good. We made noise, and forced Bungie's hand to address the issue. Maybe this community does still have influence after all?

  • Reading the comments, I see that you now know that all of this was for nothing and in your original post, you did say "speculation" a few times. This is the problem, though, with jumping to conclusions before all the facts are in. People absolutely love to make wild accusations here and others immediately jump on the bandwagon. Now you have a bunch of assholes calling you names after the fact. Best to reserve judgement until you know the facts.

    •
“Someone datamined files that prove Tess will be selling King’s Fall consumables! You said you wouldn’t do that! Why are you doing that!?” We’re not doing that. The files in question were actually first uncovered some time ago, well before the launch of Eververse Trading Company. They weren’t ever intended to be sold in exchange for Silver. What you’re seeing are remnant files for Three of Coins or Moldering Shard like items that would have been available from Xûr. Ultimately, the team decided that they didn’t have a place in the game, and cut them from the experience. You’re seeing some dust and echoes from the cutting room floor. Files that get datamined aren’t official sources of news, though we understand why they are intriguing.
conclusion - you're a dumb-ass.

            • This was posted before yesterday's update, so I'm not here to call the OP out, just here to spread the word. PSA: They addressed this very topic in yesterday's weekly update: they will not be implementing this, the idea was scrapped before TTK even came out. So no pay to win, for now at least.

                • So let me get this straight. You're against new people being given a leg up to help them level. You're against allowing people to quickly level a subclass You're against people spending real money for a 3 of coins like item which they have to kill a raid boss to get. Can I ask you this ....how does any of that effect you in any way other then bringing in revenue so they can offer free dlc? So let me get this right. People were able to have almost every exotic in the game-people complained First dlc was on the small size-people complained Second dlc didn't bring a raid- people complained 3rd dlc was cost was twice as much as previous dlc-people complained 3rd dlc items where hidden behind time locks to extend the playability-people complained Some exotic quest lines were to hard *chaperone*-people complained Some exotics were to hard to get *black spindle*- people complained Some exotics were to easy to get *sleeper*-people complained You see the pattern here...... This is why I hated halo it wasn't the game itself it was the fan base bunch of whiney little -blam!-s

                  • I am ok with some games selling guns and stuff for real money but it would hurt destiny. Destiny is extremely grind heavy when it comes to gear. That's part of if not the only reason people keep playing this game. If you could just buy whatever gun you wanted or buy increased drop rates it would hurt the longevity of the game. It would also invalidate the time people spend grinding for their precious gear. Ps deej tweeted that the consumables were never going to be sold for silver

                    • This is an excellent, well written, original post. None of this has been spoken about before on the forums, so we all really appreciate finding a post like this with brand new, relevant information. Maybe we can unionize or contact the ACLU, because this is very important. If there is any justice at all in the world, this will become a part of each presidential candidate's platform and can be brought to light at the next debate. Thank you so very much. You are a beacon of light in these troubling times.

                        • Once it happens I will have to retire my guardian. Pay to win is a way for them to make a lot of money if we support it. I for one won't. I have paid enough for this game and don't intend to pay more for bonuses that will change the economy of the game.

                        • I've heard of people spending up to 10k on arc age. Completley different game i understand but bunjie has a long way to go before its "pay to win". I will be very dissapointed if it comes down to that but games that get this popular ALWAYS take andvantage of it. It would be bad business not too i guess. It's like world of tanks gold. Spend 6 months grinding, or buy a buff for a day, same result. It will come to this. From drop rates to XP gains, glimmer gains or higher level gear, the micro transaction hurricane is coming

                          • As long as the starter pack and xp boosts aren't capable of taking a character to max lvl instantly, then I see no foul there. I hope that the subclass boost doesn't also effect level. And if so then they have to start grinding from 25, which I imagine would take quite a while to get to 40 from there. But if players can instantly max out then this essentially creates unlimited loot drops for those willing to pay.
