And Angry Joe agrees!
But that's apparently alright, because the Weekly Update used nice words and made you feel good.
How is anyone still defending this DLC?
EDIT: Because some people have difficulty understanding the problem, let me put it like this...
Do you think that those 9 cosmetic items are equal content to House of Wolves or Dark Below? If not, why are they the same cost?
I've asked multiple Destiny defenders this question, and they've either flaked out of the conversation, or ignored the question.
EDIT 2: Before you come onto this thread and spout off a dozen times about how "You don't need to buy it!", consider this...
When people buy over-priced DLC, it tells the gaming industry that it's OK to over-charge for scarce content, because people will buy it anyway.
And because those increased prices will eventually reach the people who "don't buy it", it's our responsibility to call out bad practices when we see them.
EDIT 3: For the people screaming that I'm obviously poor, user DragoonKai sums it up perfectly...
People don't get the reason why were upset: it's not like we can't spare $40 for TTK or $20 for the items. Hell, even a kid with a limited allowance can afford that. It's about the principle; about the fact that Bungie -blam!-ed up and instead of apologizing and making things right, they tried to sell us their -blam!- up by giving us pretty words in the shape of a half assed apology.
EDIT 4: What a toxic community; I'm legitimately disappointed in you people. For every person that provides an ounce of discussion value, 5 more come running out, howling and screaming that: 1.) "You're just poor" 2.) "Just don't buy it!" or (my personal favorite) 3.) Resort to personal insults to make up for a lack of coherent thought.
I'd like to say people like that deserve to be shafted by this decision, and be punished for their lack of understanding, but that lack of understanding directly effects everyone who refuses to support and defend being over-charged for no content.
EDIT 5: It appears that the people defending over-priced DLC have shifted the conversation to the concept that, "since *Insert game here* does it, it's okay for Destiny to do it too!" In response to this, I ask that you remember the adage that your parents told you; "If all your friends were jumping from a bridge, would you jump too?" Just because other people/groups/companies are doing something, it doesn't make it a good thing, nor does it justify it.
EDIT 6: It saddens me that this new Bungie community is so quick to zealously defend a bad deal, simply because it is "more Destiny". When a company starts making comments about how you are used to "paying a premium" for basic content and "throwing your money at the screen" for trivial items, you need to call them out before that becomes a precedent. But instead of being good consumers, many people here have instead chosen to blindly follow along, despite the consequences it will have.
EDIT 7: "You just want free stuff!" isn't an answer or rebuttal to this thread. I don't think the word "free" has appeared on it until this edit, so at what point did I ask for free content? All I'm asking for is a fair and reasonable pricing model for a small amount of content.

5 RepliesHow are people still posting this crap! Do what you want with your money and I will do the same with mine! Move on if you are that upset!

1 ReplyYou're not just buying 9 extra class items, you're buying an addition to the game. More quests, strikes, PvP, raid, weapons. Besides, the value of a product or service can only be determined by one person, you. If you feel a product or service is not of a value that either equals or exceeds the price asked then by all means, continue on your way. Don't belittle the people who see the value of the item differently than you. To us its well worth the cost.

9 RepliesEdited by Hippo_Legacy: 7/26/2015 1:03:30 AMI personally don't think 9 cosmetic items are worth $20, which is why I won't be buying them. But I also don't believe that Bungie is ripping anybody off. We're being given the option to either purchase them or not, so idk how people can claim they're getting ripped off. Pay the $20 bucks if you think it's worth it, if you don't then don't buy them.

I just like playing the game and want to continue playing more of it.

The Only way the new DLC should cost $40 is if it has as much content as the previous two DLC's. The first DLC was a joke in my opinion, and not worth the amount of money that was charged for it. The House of Wolves content however was worth the 20 dollar price tag since it add a lot more content and added more than a few hours of content. Crota added a raid and and nightfall. If the Taken King includes 2 Raids, better game play (2.0 update), and at least 20+ hours of new content, and the level cap being raised by 6 levels. Then it will be worth $40. My numbers are based on what has been released so far. Original game 60 dollars. Crota 2 light levels, Wolves 2 Light Levels. Crota less than 3 hours, (6 if you have friends for the co-op) of new game play. Wolves roughly 4 or 5 (more if you have friends to play the co-op modes). For $40 or even $60 the people who have been loyal and have bought the game and both DLC's should get enough content that makes it even with both DLC's and for 60 you should get as much content as the original game had. I'm not bashing Bungie. Those of us that played the Alpha, Beta, and pre-ordered the original game and basically received weapons that were obsolete pretty quickly. Want to feel like we are getting our money's worth when we spend 40 or 60 dollars on a expansion.

4 RepliesI've read your entire post including the edits. My first point is that you are basing the price on what information has been released so far. As far as I'm aware, they haven't told us everything that will be in the DLC yet. Therefore, how can you argue it's not value for money if you don't know what you're getting? Second point is regarding DLC pricing and ppl willing to pay over the odds. As far as I'm aware, DLC pricing tends to be reasonably stable. Given your argument, we'd be paying $60 or more for EACH map pack in COD; because some ppl would pay that. Obviously, this is not the case. So far your arguments are very floored to me at best. Therefore, your post is pointless to me.

10 Replies"It saddens me that this new Bungie community is so quick to zealously defend a bad deal, simply because it is "more Destiny" It's only a bad deal in your opinion. By the way, this is the destiny board on the Bungie forum, you may find quite a few people here like it. It's why they are here. Getting bored of reading stuff like this. If you no longer like the game, go play something you do and talk about that on their forum. You're wasting your own time. Life is too short.
-
I'm actually paying 100$ for it, but who cares about that.
-
Pricing is a very complex thing and I'm sure we could spend hours debating it. First consideration is that the cost should recoup expenditure and make desired profit. Since I don't know what thier cost to create and distribute is I really can't make judgments on it by that standard. You also have to consider that these numbers change dependent on projected sales. An item may reach your expected profit margins at 20 dollars and 50000 in sales so in order to drop your price to 10 dollars you would have to reach at least 100000 sales (this is not exact math on most items because you still have cost of manufacturing to consider but I don't belive there is much increase to distribution of digital content at different sales numbers). Once these have been achieved comes the more greed oriented part of it. I just want to clarify I have no problem with greed. Healthy amounts of it are good. It's what drives capitalism. If your one of those that believes capitalism and greed to be bad then walk out your door and give all your belongings to the first person you see. I'll wait. Now that's out of the way we can both agree the desire to better yourself and your station is what drives us to succeed. A business hurts its self when the price is out of its customers acceptability. Businesses routinely evaluate these thresholds and conduct study groups. I myself belive the expansion to be in a reasonable price range but the item pack not to be. It's the value I put on it as a customer but realize others don't agree. I personally would not throw money at the screen for any cosmetic items. I support your ability and right to speak your mind on the subject but disagree with you and others(including those who have insulted you) who choose to put each other down for your opinions.

1 ReplyI agree with you that Bungie sucks and that this is overpriced. However, that's what the gaming industry has turned into. Everything is about money and sadly this is the best way for them to make it. If I thought there was a way that we could turn things around, then I'd do it. If no one were to buy TDK it would hurt Bungie, but it'd be the same thing next year.

2 RepliesStopped playing destiny shortly after the "throw your money at the screen" bit

Yeah man, bump. This community seems to be 70% mindless Bungie cocksuckers...so sad.
-
Thanks for trying to get word out. I only check the forums once in a while. I pretty much gave up on destiny. Just not enough to warrant me not checking in on the site once in a while.

I think it's funny how people still can't grasp the fact that people will be buying this DLC. Some of you try so hard to say it's not worth it or calling people names cause they want to buy it. Just because YOU don't find it worth it doesn't mean it's not. I have spent a good chunk of time on this game and it only cost $40 more to add more hours? Sign me up! If you don't think it's worth then don't buy it but to some of us, it's totally worth it.

While it is a disappointing continuum of constant cash flow, I myself have already pre ordered. I will also be buying the cosmetic items because to me, they are worth the 20 dollars. I am very happy bungie doesnt have weapon pack micro transactions either. Its really about what you think the game is worth. If you play every day for a couple hours like me, the time you will be playing this dlc outweighs the substantial price. The best argument for this is "if you don't like it, don't buy it." Destiny is easily my favorite game of this generation. I don't care if you don't want me to buy it because it is "destroying gaming." I play what I want, and I pay what I want.
-
I'm just not getting the extra items.
-
At first I felt like I wasn't gonna buy anymore dlc; but now now I'm seriously considering buying the most expensive version. I play Destiny every chance I get and I don't play many other games. I feel like I get my money's worth from this game. I'm not gonna blindly buy everything but for now I'm excited for new content.
-
Im buyin taken king idc how much it costs if they brought out new dlc for halo or mass effect i would buy it in a heart beat no matter the price

People are stupid.

Buying digital and collectors. And a life size replica of a warlock.
-
To me it's because of the social element. Destiny is a social experience and I enjoy my time playing with friends and even randoms, and anything to extend the life of that experience is worth it as far as I'm concerned. As long as I still have friends commited to the experience, I am as well. Is the content itself worth it? Nah, probably not. But I'm paying for an experience, not so much for content.
-
3 RepliesHow is it overpriced? It is literally adding a bunch of content. And the base Destiny was worth 60, and dlc have been worth the season pass. What makes you think this will not be worth it? Also the red bull thing ain't nothing apart of the taken king.

6 RepliesA company can charge what ever they want for the goods their selling. You don't have to buy it. You don't know the developing costs or the overhead expenses. If you don't feel comfortable spending 40 bucks don't buy it. Why do you feel the need to come on here and cry? Show a little dignity.
