You're paying $60 for The Taken King and Digital Content.

And Angry Joe agrees! But that's apparently alright, because the Weekly Update used nice words and made you feel good. How is anyone still defending this DLC? EDIT: Because some people have difficulty understanding the problem, let me put it like this... Do you think that those 9 cosmetic items are equal content to House of Wolves or Dark Below? If not, why are they the same cost? I've asked multiple Destiny defenders this question, and they've either flaked out of the conversation, or ignored the question. EDIT 2: Before you come onto this thread and spout off a dozen times about how "You don't need to buy it!", consider this... When people buy over-priced DLC, it tells the gaming industry that it's OK to over-charge for scarce content, because people will buy it anyway. And because those increased prices will eventually reach the people who "don't buy it", it's our responsibility to call out bad practices when we see them. EDIT 3: For the people screaming that I'm obviously poor, user DragoonKai sums it up perfectly... People don't get the reason why were upset: it's not like we can't spare $40 for TTK or $20 for the items. Hell, even a kid with a limited allowance can afford that. It's about the principle; about the fact that Bungie -blam!-ed up and instead of apologizing and making things right, they tried to sell us their -blam!- up by giving us pretty words in the shape of a half assed apology. EDIT 4: What a toxic community; I'm legitimately disappointed in you people. For every person that provides an ounce of discussion value, 5 more come running out, howling and screaming that: 1.) "You're just poor" 2.) "Just don't buy it!" or (my personal favorite) 3.) Resort to personal insults to make up for a lack of coherent thought. I'd like to say people like that deserve to be shafted by this decision, and be punished for their lack of understanding, but that lack of understanding directly effects everyone who refuses to support and defend being over-charged for no content. EDIT 5: It appears that the people defending over-priced DLC have shifted the conversation to the concept that, "since *Insert game here* does it, it's okay for Destiny to do it too!" In response to this, I ask that you remember the adage that your parents told you; "If all your friends were jumping from a bridge, would you jump too?" Just because other people/groups/companies are doing something, it doesn't make it a good thing, nor does it justify it. EDIT 6: It saddens me that this new Bungie community is so quick to zealously defend a bad deal, simply because it is "more Destiny". When a company starts making comments about how you are used to "paying a premium" for basic content and "throwing your money at the screen" for trivial items, you need to call them out before that becomes a precedent. But instead of being good consumers, many people here have instead chosen to blindly follow along, despite the consequences it will have. EDIT 7: "You just want free stuff!" isn't an answer or rebuttal to this thread. I don't think the word "free" has appeared on it until this edit, so at what point did I ask for free content? All I'm asking for is a fair and reasonable pricing model for a small amount of content.

    • Didn't DeeJ say in the weekly update a few weeks ago that they'll looking at the pricing of the DLC? I rarely play games into year 2. I'm normally bored of them by then or new games have come out that I want. If this DLC keeps me into the game and keeps my interest into year 2, then it fair play to Bungie. They did what many other games failed to do.

            • Of course they are not worth a dlc in terms of content but it's just cosmetic items. It seems expensive because they are bundle together. But separately they are worth about $2.22 which is not out of the ordinary for a micro transaction in a video game. If people find vaule in it that's their business. You need to get off your high horse and stop judging people's buying habits. I bet if you did some research you would find that a lot of people spend an insane amount of money on cosmetic items in other games. I've heard stories of people buying mounts in world of war craft for $20. I find that crazy and would never do that but I respect that people have their own vaule system that doesn't match mine. You need to relax and not worry about how other people want to spend their money.

              • The taken king is reasonably priced at $40 and the $20 extra collection stuff is not necessary for you to buy and im sure it will go down in price but if you dont want to buy it because you dont thi k its worth it or whatever then dont because they already picked a price for it they arnt going to change it and that just is what it is buy it or leave it I highly dout they care bc I know theres alot of people out there that dont have a big issue over it because its just cosmetic stuff that wont change your gameplay from my gameplay I will just look more badass in my new shadera and class items.

                • So destiny announces this game would be a 10 year plan in which any progress carries over into the next installment, did you guys whole heartedly believe they were going to give you a 10 year coursed game for a one time fee of $65 back in sept?... Any worth while mmo (which is ultimately what this is) has charged for expansions, upgrades and other new materials. Hell, they even let you buy specific items that allow you to do better than the rest who don't purchase it. For those acting "surprised" at bungie milking this for all its worth, are you truly that dense? The original makers of arguably the biggest gaming franchise in history weren't going to hand you everything for free upfront???? What?!?! I truly do believe destiny will be the game many had hoped for by the time is all said and done, so far the updates etc have worked towards that and if progress repeats as it did from TDB, the expansions will be getting better and better as well. Anyone who was hyped about this game knew it was a 10 year plan coming into it, so either stick through it or go recycle $65 on cod every year for a new slide feature. Oh no wait, BO3 is adding in walking on walls and "specialist" class oooooooooooh shiny!

The Taken King seem like it is going to have a lot of content, seems like a reasonable price for 40 dollars. I bought the physical collectors edition. It comes with a 60 dollar game some physical items I will enjoy and some cool cosmetic stuff for the game. I bought it because I enjoy Destiny and wanted to collect all the cool things it had to offer. Still wish I got the ghost edition but I heard about the game they day it came out. Anyways after non-collectors complained and wanted collectors items because they were "day one players" bungie ended up selling it for 20 dollars. This seems like a reasonable price because they are ment for collectors you don't have to but it if you don't want it. 80 dollars well spent :)

                    • I wouldn't mind paying Bungie $60 for The Taken King as long as they don't stop supporting old-gen console.

                    • Either you like it or you don't. This problem won't go away for a long time to come. Yeah the price for cosmetic items is dumb, but people will buy it anyways becuase of disposable income. Just like how people buy the collectors edition of games. Getting a statue doesn't increase your enjoyment or experience of the game itself. You bought it because you wanted to, becuase it looks cool, and becuase you had money to spare. As long as people have money to spend on things they don't need, they'll keep following DLC patterns like this. It probably won't ever end. Do I need the Destiny cosmetic items? Of course not. Are they more expensive than they should be? Absolutely. I'll still get it anyways though, becuase I have money that I don't need to spend on anything else, and becuase I want to use them every now and then. Sure I could use the money for something else. Like say a trip to the cinema for me and my girlfriend, but I'll be playing Destiny a lot longer than I would watch any movie. I mean, I own 6 copies Tim Burton's 1989 Batman film. 3 bluray, and 3 standard DVD, becuase I wanted to have the steelcase, digibook, diamond luxe, and anthology editions. Does it make the movie better? No. Does it increase its rewatching value? Nope. Does it even make me look cool? No. I just enjoy the film so much, that I was willing to spend large amounts of my extra money on it. I only watch it more than once, maybe twice, a year. Destiny is different though. Destiny allows me to come back to a world that I inhabit myself. Not a world that I'm watching actors in. Its a place that I myself am influencing. That I help decide the outcome of. So its easier for me to spend more money on it, becuase I will be in its world for more than 2 or 3 hours a year. I'll spend hundreds of hours in it, and I'll enjoy almost every minute of it. I say almost, becuase it has its rough spots. It has areas I don't like, and it has things that are annoying. Anyways, I got sidetracked and probably provided now insight to this whole debate. So whatever. I've come too far to back out now. Just let people do what they what with their money, and in turn, we will let you voice your opinion on the internet. Well, If you've read this far, I commend you, and hopefully we bump into each other in Destiny. <3 Oh, also, if I went to the cinema, they would overcharge me for popcorn and soda. Which is ridiculous. In fact, I say everyone should stop buying concessions at all cinemas across the globe. Maybe if we all stop, their prices will go down, or they'll just give them to us for free. We already paid to see the movie. We deserve to get free concessions and the best seats.

                    • I've been gaming for twenty years. When did gamers become such self entitled children? 1. Back in the Nintendo 64 and Playstation days, AAA titles sold for $49.99. Ten dollars less. That's it. Just a quick thought ad I move on. 2. Only the video game industry has industry wide pricing. No base game sells for more than $59.99. Why? If a developer spends more money and time on a game and truly thinks it's superior to every other game out there why shouldn't they increase the price? Everyone wonders why there is DLC and micro transactions. That is why. The industry forces developers into finding other ways to make money because they can't raise prices of their own products without causing an outrage. 3. Complain all you want. Get as many people you can to sign your petitions. You are a small fish in a huge pond. Bungie saw their DLC sales numbers and they know what they can get away with. They know people want special items. They can sell them for whatever. If you see value in it, buy them. If not, skip it. Skip the whole DLC. Who cares? Can anyone answer me this? How many hours of entertainment is $40 worth to you? How about the $60 the original game costs? I found value in Destiny and every DLC to follow. I will continue to buy them until I don't. Anyone who complains that grinding isn't fun is stupid for still playing then. Anyone who says they are still playing in hopes that Destiny will become what Bungie promised years ago is naive. If you enjoy playing the game, then play it and support the developer. If not, please stop flooding forums with useless petitions and rants about what you are owed. Be mature and make your own decisions.

                      • The digital content is 20$ because if it was any lower, it would be cheaper to get the 60$ legendary edition and the the digital content than the 80$ digital edition.

Like 4 or 5 bucks or some shit, so you buy 4 of those little packs and that's 20 bucks for 4 weapon camos and 4 emblems, in this you get 3 shaders, 3 emblems and 3 new emotes, that's is 9 pieces of small content for 20 bucks compared to the 8 you get for the same cost with Bo2 (still). As I said before, you're a stupid mother-blam!-er if you're still complaining about cosmetics lol
