And Angry Joe agrees!
But that's apparently alright, because the Weekly Update used nice words and made you feel good.
How is anyone still defending this DLC?
EDIT: Because some people have difficulty understanding the problem, let me put it like this...
Do you think that those 9 cosmetic items are equal content to House of Wolves or Dark Below? If not, why are they the same cost?
I've asked multiple Destiny defenders this question, and they've either flaked out of the conversation, or ignored the question.
EDIT 2: Before you come onto this thread and spout off a dozen times about how "You don't need to buy it!", consider this...
When people buy over-priced DLC, it tells the gaming industry that it's OK to over-charge for scarce content, because people will buy it anyway.
And because those increased prices will eventually reach the people who "don't buy it", it's our responsibility to call out bad practices when we see them.
EDIT 3: For the people screaming that I'm obviously poor, user DragoonKai sums it up perfectly...
People don't get the reason why were upset: it's not like we can't spare $40 for TTK or $20 for the items. Hell, even a kid with a limited allowance can afford that. It's about the principle; about the fact that Bungie -blam!-ed up and instead of apologizing and making things right, they tried to sell us their -blam!- up by giving us pretty words in the shape of a half assed apology.
EDIT 4: What a toxic community; I'm legitimately disappointed in you people. For every person that provides an ounce of discussion value, 5 more come running out, howling and screaming that: 1.) "You're just poor" 2.) "Just don't buy it!" or (my personal favorite) 3.) Resort to personal insults to make up for a lack of coherent thought.
I'd like to say people like that deserve to be shafted by this decision, and be punished for their lack of understanding, but that lack of understanding directly effects everyone who refuses to support and defend being over-charged for no content.
EDIT 5: It appears that the people defending over-priced DLC have shifted the conversation to the concept that, "since *Insert game here* does it, it's okay for Destiny to do it too!" In response to this, I ask that you remember the adage that your parents told you; "If all your friends were jumping from a bridge, would you jump too?" Just because other people/groups/companies are doing something, it doesn't make it a good thing, nor does it justify it.
EDIT 6: It saddens me that this new Bungie community is so quick to zealously defend a bad deal, simply because it is "more Destiny". When a company starts making comments about how you are used to "paying a premium" for basic content and "throwing your money at the screen" for trivial items, you need to call them out before that becomes a precedent. But instead of being good consumers, many people here have instead chosen to blindly follow along, despite the consequences it will have.
EDIT 7: "You just want free stuff!" isn't an answer or rebuttal to this thread. I don't think the word "free" has appeared on it until this edit, so at what point did I ask for free content? All I'm asking for is a fair and reasonable pricing model for a small amount of content.

And he said to his disciples, “Temptations to buy are sure to come, but woe to the one through whom they come! It would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck and he were cast into the sea than that he should cause one of these little ones to buy overpriced dlc. Pay attention to yourselves! If your brother buys, rebuke him, and if he repents, forgive him, and if he plays destiny seven times in the day, and turns to you seven times, saying, ‘I repent,’ you must not forgive him.” The apostles said to the Lord, “Increase our RNG! ...

Payed 25$ i'm Happy i'll buy those Shitty Emotes if they reduce the Price

1 ReplyI'm sure its been said already but it's obvious that bungie will realize the release of this DLC that they have lost a lot of customers due to the fact of the majority that pre-ordered the guardian pack to start with. I've stopped playing destiny after the release of the second DLC even though I was one of the many who were tricked into the guardian pack. People who say the game isn't or hasn't died already that's fine, makes no difference to me at all and I could care less what others think or believe. Only time will tell, and if the sales stats were ever leaked it would be a night and day difference as to how derailed this game has gone. I know it doesn't matter but I still feel sorry for anyone who've been suckered into preordering this upcoming DLC. Bungie will learn from Destiny and they will change their sales strategy in the future to further scam their fan base.

Edited by MellowLikeAcat: 7/26/2015 1:12:25 PMLook man everything in this world is slowly getting more and more expensive. It's not rocket science but this was coming man. Sorry I agree it's over priced but then again I don't really care since I'm pretty sure, just, the DLC is $20 where I live but I'm sure people who have to pay more for what I'm getting must be pissed. I'm not buying right away till I hear it's actually worth it but the raid is tempting hahaha

It's my money and I'm going to use it how I need it thank JG Ellsworth

Some people just love tossing their money at the screen. Makes them feel rich.

12 Replies"Destiny consumers are used to paying a premium for downloadable content similar to this quest" that is just gold

Would i buy it? No, but people spend real money on mounts, pets, and cosmetic items that are probably in total 10 times that amount. People need to stop worrying about everyone else and focus on themselves. Who cares if they buy it.
-
3 RepliesPersonally I'm not buying the cosmetic items. I've also never bought any cosmetic items in any game ever. But that $20 price tag? For 9 items? It comes to about $2.20 each. Is that reasonable? I wouldn't be the best judge of that, but I think it would have been a much better idea to sell them individually at perhaps just $2 each. Then, if you wanted to buy it all you would have to spend $18 and that would be your choice. Just a thought.

10 RepliesNo flaming. What people keep saying is that there's a lack of content, but there are people who say this that have spent more time on this game than almost any other (4,000 hours on skill rim for me.... I used to be a sad person), but, aside from the MMOs that are availible for the consoles, destiny has the most content for both the casual and hardcore players. The crucible only feels unbalanced because of the gap in player skill; those who aren't good at the game feel it's unbalanced, while more of the "good" players feel it isn't. Why? Because, unlike literally every other shooter out right now, destiny doesn't hold your hand. You're not guaranteed the same gun everybody else has by just leveling up, losing is actually a bad thing and doesn't net you tons of experience like other games, the skill shots and crazy kills don't net you near as many points or experience as other games do, and your gear is the same in both sides of the game. I understand what you mean about the emotes, class items and the emblem. I get that entirely, especially since most of that isn't really buy exclusive, most of it is just timed. But the taken king's price $40 is acceptable in the U.S. As far as the UK goes, spending 40£ is not okay, and it should be scaled accordingly, but if they decide to do that, then selling it for the lower price is acceptable. Why? 3 new subclasses, A raid New and revitalized strikes, Three weapon foundries bound to change the game to something totally different, New exotics, primarily those built for the new subclasses, Two new level caps New crucible maps, And more shit we just haven't seen yet. Spending $40 on that as opposed to spending $40 on other DLCs for other games offering less, to me, is a no brainer. I do agree with the statement that if you don't like that fact, you should probably be looking for another game, but only because you've already killed the experience for yourself. Believing that a game is going to be bad and not trying it is worse than believing a game is going to be epic and not, because at the end of the day, at least you tried and found out you didn't like the game. I recognize how much hate I'm about to get, but before you all start to tell me how bad I suck, or that my opinion is wrong, let me ask you why. Why won't you try it? Why won't you give this game one last chance? Why are you so mad, and why do you feel so entitled to something you didn't create? But most of all, why flame me for doing what you clearly won't?

"good consumers," I want something. I have the money to buy it. It's not rocket science. Eventually and at some point in all our lives we have to say 'enough' to some things. It has pretty much nothing to do with the money, really. It's about what point you're at in your life and if you still want that one thing. You're, in a way, preaching to the choir. We know it's overpriced. Everything might as well be "overpriced". We still want it. And we'll still get it.
-
You are correct, it's not about money; it's about integrity.

I don't see a problem with paying $40 for hundreds of hours of fun. I'm a gamer. I spend my hard earned money on games I like and play the hell out of them. It makes me happy and that's all that matters.
-
I'm only paying 20$ for TTK. Splitting the difference with a friend. So I'm perfectly fine.

Cancer is now on every limb of my body. Please send halp.
How can anyone defend this? Lol
Edited by Zlayer: 7/26/2015 7:59:10 AMI enjoyed the "throw money at your screen" comment, because I know Luke Smith, but others may have not understood. But besides that, moving ontopic. I completely agree, but don't understand how people can defend debuting the entire game you've played a million times over. That's like having a Camaro, okay? Say you just want to refresh the look. You buy a spoiler for your car. It's a medium size spoiler, larger than previous offers. but then the company you bought it from tells you you have to repurchase your entire car to insta it. You would be pissed then. At the end of the day, it's a bad deal, and you are being screwed into giving up your hard earned cash. Always think of it from a logical standpoint, before standing in front of the gun for a corporation that has done nothing with their product but try to screw you over.

6 RepliesEdited by Lamora: 7/26/2015 6:30:43 AMThere are alot of edits on this post so I'm going to assume it's not popular, and you're not a famous enough author for me to read that book. However, I'd like to point out that the dlc is $40 dollars. Also, from leaks, it appears that the dlc may contain 12 story missions, 5 strikes, a new raid, and 6 crucible maps. That seems like plenty to justify a $40 dollar price tag. Honestly, if you're going to complain about $60 dollars, maybe you shouldn't have bought a console in the first place.

Honestly Angry Joe is in the same boat as Destin Legarie from IGN I don't give a sh*t what they have to say about this game.

move along there are better causes for your angst

I wonder how gear progression is gonna go with TTK. It has changed both times dlc has come out, and I bet they get it wrong again. Still ain't buying till it gets 8.5+ ratings.
-
Simple answer is those who buy it are addicted to Destiny as shown by the # of hours played. This is what Bungie wanted to do and seems to be successful.

I like the mechanics of this game and I like to build a character... that's why I'm still hanging around. I've met friends and felt a continual improvement. Destiny is not perfect but I'll pay to keep going.

Im not buying anything else from these guys.
