How To Prepare for HoW DLC
So in The Dark Below, it snuck up on me and knocked me upside the head with a shovel and I wasn't prepared for that. Now with House of Wolves, I've had plenty of time to prepare and even compiled a list of things I need to do before House of Wolves comes out. I've decided to share my list of preparations for the HoW so here it is:

Have 200 crucible and vanguard marks [spoiler]To buy the new gear[/spoiler]
Buy one (or two) of each exotic armor engrams [spoiler]To decrypt them and get the new armor[/spoiler]
Have +100 strange coins[spoiler]For Xur[/spoiler]
Have 25000 glimmer[spoiler]To upgrade weapons[/spoiler]
Have 10 exotic shards[spoiler]To upgrade old 331 damage exotics[/spoiler]
Have at least 10 vanguard and crucible commendations
[spoiler]To buy the new gear[/spoiler]
Have 10 bounties completed all giving 5,000 xp each[spoiler]Once I get my new weapons and exotics I want them a little powerful right?[/spoiler]

All good, one point is wrong though. None of the pre HoW engrams will give HoW gears or weapons They are pre determined. They only will work for cryptach leveling up, which most likely tongive blue engrams. But, it is still wprth the shot as i got 2 exotic and 6 legendary engrams (might be mistaken in exact numbers) for cryptach packages

I'm not preparing because I can't! Is it just me who just can't help myself and I HAVE to open every package I get! It's the excitement of receiving that shiny new package and to have it just sitting there is just plain wrong. It must be opened!

Best thing you can do is spend your time gitting gud at pvp because that is going to be such a huge part of the end game with HOW

Edited by I Can't Believe It: 4/22/2015 11:49:18 AMits all good except the exotic armor engrams. engrams are determined as soon as you grab them, this is the reason why if you take any engrams to the next dlc they are going to be from pre-dlc. also its good to save packages like vanguard and crucible because those are not determined untill you pick them up.

Don't buy exotic engrams you will get old 331 Gear but if you get your factions and criptarc To near lvling up the packages will drop new gear

My prep is get sent away for 2 weeks training for a new role at work the day before release... I may fall behind a little on rebuilding my armoury

Thanks. I was meaning to get my vanguard close to leveling, but I accidentally went over. Currently I'm low on motes and coins. I don't think gear will be a problem because the vendor gear will cap at level 32.

Get your faction rep to just below the next level.

don't forget to keep all factions close to leveling with those bounties since they will rank up and give you a package

Only other thing you could do is get various factions close to their upgrades and your crypt arch as well so that when you hand your saved bounties in you can knock all of them up to the next rank and get a whole bunch of care packages.

6 Repliesjust saying, getting those exotic engrams wont work. The way exotic engram work = They have pre-determined items. So turning the engrams in when house of wolves drop will not give you new gear, but gear based on when you bought the engram.

Edited by JimmyTheHand: 4/22/2015 11:10:33 AMYour engram idea won't work because as some people have said in the thread, engrams are coded to the DLC at which you picked it up so any engrams you're storing now to decrypt after you've downloaded the HoW will be Crota's End engrams. Instead what you can do is with as many characters as you can manage, rank up their Vanguard, Crucible, FWC, Dead Orbit and New Monarchy ranks to one bounty short of getting a package. When you have the DLC, switch your class armour and hand in bounties so you get a new package from the factions. These packages will have a possibility of new gear (If RNGesus treats you well). Also the amount of weapons and armour in the HoW is considerably larger than the Crota's End content, due to multiple vendors or content for new weapons (Prison and Trials) so even if you do have a bit of a kick start in getting yourself some new gear, it doesn't mean that you'll get everything soon, people who say that seem to be forgetting the randomness of Destiny..... nothing is guaranteed. Personally I'm already in prep mode for the DLC and just currently working on remaking my Hunter.

Level up each faction to the brink of a new level so when HoW drops, one bounty can level it up and give you gear too.

We will have plenty of time to get the stuff we want before the next update launches... [spoiler]Public event packages give you 5k XP when you pick them up so store them at the postmaster if you desire![/spoiler]
