Pinocchio says his nose will grow

Does the set of all sets that don't contain themselves contain itself?

What happens if Pinocchio says, "My nose will now grow"?

A crocodile snatches a young boy from a riverbank. His mother pleads with the crocodile to return him, to which the crocodile replies that he will only return the boy safely if the mother can guess correctly whether or not he will indeed return the boy. There is no problem if the mother guesses that the crocodile will return him—if she is right, he is returned; if she is wrong, the crocodile keeps him. If she answers that the crocodile will not return him, however, we end up with a paradox: if she is right and the crocodile never intended to return her child, then the crocodile has to return him, but in doing so breaks his word and contradicts the mother’s answer. On the other hand, if she is wrong and the crocodile actually did intend to return the boy, the crocodile must then keep him even though he intended not to, thereby also breaking his word.

4 RepliesYesterday I saw a bin labelled "litter"... and it occurred to me that the Can was wrong; litter can only exist when unwanted things are tossed in the wrong spot, like on the ground. But that had me thinking, what is garbage? If Im holding a chip bag eating chips, its a chip bag, but if I chuck it on the ground it becomes litter, or if I put it in the can it becomes garbage. But what if I spot litter, like a chip bag, and pick it up? Is that bag still litter, or is it now a chip bag? Perhaps its garbage out of the can? It makes you think, thats for sure...

3 RepliesThe Smash4 Trophies say that Lucina is the daughter of Chrom, and takes the name of Marth before her true identity is revealed. Chrom's trophy says he is the son of the hero-King Marth. So does that mean Lucina is her own father's mother?! Fire Emblem Games sound complicated.

I go back in time. I bump into a guy. This guy one day comes up with something that will save the world, but since I bumped into him he never does. I die in the future because his idea was never made reality. If I die, I can't bump into him. If I can't bump into him, he can create his idea. I don't die. I don't die, I bump into him. ˞͛ʕ̡̢̡๑꒪͒ꇴ꒪͒๑ʔ̢̡̢˞͛ Paradox confirmed.

I love this one. Imagine you’re holding a postcard in your hand, on one side of which is written, “The statement on the other side of this card is true.” We’ll call that Statement A. Turn the card over, and the opposite side reads, “The statement on the other side of this card is false” (Statement B). Trying to assign any truth to either Statement A or B, however, leads to a paradox: if A is true then B must be as well, but for B to be true, A has to be false. Oppositely, if A is false then B must be false too, which must ultimately make A true.

Claim: There is no such thing as an uninteresting natural number.Proof by Contradiction: Assume that you have a non-empty set of natural numbers that are not interesting. Due to the well-ordered property of the natural numbers, there must be some smallest number in the set of not interesting numbers. Being the smallest number of a set one might consider not interesting makes that number interesting. Since the numbers in this set were defined as not interesting, we have reached a contradiction because this smallest number cannot be both interesting and uninteresting. Therefore the set of uninteresting numbers must be empty, proving there is no such thing as an uninteresting number.

4 RepliesEdited by Dante Trixter: 4/15/2015 6:45:31 PMReincarnation is real and we are the same one soul experiencing life from a different view point. When we die we will experience life from a different view point from birth to death and the cycle still continue. Deja Vue? You catch glimpses of your past life. Why can't we remember our past life? So as not to let it influence our current life.
