Could the planet in the final cutscene be...New Theory **(Spoilers)**
***Fatcatlives on's Earthly Theory***
This idea is based on the theory that Master Chief DID go back in time when the portal collapsed on him.
It could be an early version of Earth before humans were on it.
When I was reading a terminal( I forget which one) the forerunners said they were putting a solution to the flood on a planet, before they were wiped out. It also says that they built the creatures a beautiful garden to prosper in( Garden of Eden ). That they were going to bury it under sand and hope that when they put creatures(humans) on Earth they will find it and use it to kill the flood.
The planet does look forerunner, so I think it's definitely possible that it could be Earth when the forerunners were trying to build the final solution to kill the flood.
***More Proof***
The star rising up behind the planet in the last cutscene is blue( a young star ). As a star gets older it changes from blue to yellowish-orange( the sun today ).This proofs that Master Chief DID go back in time when the portal collapsed.[url=http://imagine.gsfc.nasa.gov/docs/ask_astro/answers/031006a.html]Proof[/url]
The front part of the ship with the Arbiter in it landed near Earth, so why wouldn't it be possible for the Master Chief to land by Earth only earlier in time.

i say the final planet may be Onyx itself cuz if u read the the Ghosts of Onyx then u should no when the door closed to the core of the shield world all of its surface and crust broke off. and plus i wouldnt be earth cuz the whole planet was mechanical and the Ark was the only thing on Earth that was reportedly built. its also possible i could be another world as well. i also see no evidence of time travel. if u remember in first strike the only time traveled becuz they had a forerunner artifact and tried to make a slipspace jump with it. so i say its definitely not earth.

This theory was busted when the OP start taking at-best shaky evidence and calling it proof of his theory. A clear lack of logic and reason.

nope.. you actually (sorry to say) fail.. Young stars are NOT blue. I repeat: They are NOT blue.. Massive stars which are purely hydrogen and helium are blue. Earth's sun also consists out of lithium and other heavier elements. The thing about changing colours is when the sun goes into the phase of burning heavier elements. Then the sun turns from yellow to red. Hence the name red Giant. It possibally CANNOT be earth. It just CANNOT. Also, there is NO nebula around earth, and there NEVER was. What makes this topic null and void is that there is no proof of time jumping. They have no way to time jump and Cortana would have noticed a difference in time read First Strike you will understand what I am talking about. Cortana also said that they made it through the portal before the halo ring fired so no time jumping sorry. and Cortana would senced the other planet and tell master chief.

i dont think that the thing built on earth was the ark but a way to get to the ark because maybe the ark is in anothjer dimension and i think that planet thing is earth in a differnt dimension thats what i think

I just looked up Ghost of Onyx and that has nnothing to do Master Chief its about Kurt a spartan 2 of the blue team who worked with Fred,Linda,Will,John aka Master Chief. Kurt is sent to find 497 childen ages 4-6 for the spartan 3 program thats a whole diffrent story that has nothing to do with Master Chief.

No. When you read the terminals and make sense of them you have The Librarian talking to her husband about how she found a new planet and that the inhabitants were special and deserved to stay alive. Forerunners never colonized earth, and only discovered it moments before they activated the Halo rings. The planets you're thinking of are shield worlds, created so that if the rings were ever activated again that humans would have a place to hide from its destructive power. Unfortunately no Forerunner was left to pass that information on to the human race. Therefore it couldn't be an early earth. The planet we see is completely mechanical and covered in a machine-like structure. Since Forerunners never existed on Earth for longer than a few months at most to make the portal to The Ark (which we see activated in the campaign, which protected humans from the first blast) it could not be Earth.

I realy thibk that they will tie up the ending of Ghosts of Onyx with the next game...anything else would not make any sense. At the end of Ghosts of Onyx, Dr. Halsey and the remaining Spartans are all trapped in the center of the structure in a space time continuum...so the whole travelling in the past could make sens and the planet we see at the end could be Onyx. We'll see. I'm looking forward to it.

If Master Chief went back in time after the ark blows up then the earth in the future would be gone because of a shock wave. Remember in Halo 2 when the Covenit ship was going in to slip stream and destrod the city now multiply that 100x. I watched the end and thats another world. Cortana did say that no one will hear the becon for years. And think about this if it was earth that you saw, Cortana would have said to Master Chief that it was ode that earth was there but no ships were in orbit and no human life signs detected thus giving players somthing to question. Now if you go to projects and go to Marathon series on this very web site that were on, you will see new pics of Master Chief on a whole other planet.

The sun we see come over the horizon of the planet in the cutscene is blue - a much hotter sun than Earth's sun.[/quote] Thanks even more proof to my theory. I think it's not Earth, but that MB sent MC to the Forerunners by modifying the portal, on purpose, so that "his creators could learn how he has changed". *And the Forerunners never built any major cities on Earth, I think. Notice I said [b]IF[/b] it managed to somehow go from a spectral O to G class in that time frame? I did state it doesn't work with our current understanding of the universe. Stars don't change from 'blue' to 'yellow', simple as that. OK, if the star somehow lost a significant portion of it's mass somehow it would cool down, but that wouldn't happen. If it's super massive it'll be blue, a star can't be that size and remain as 'cold' as the sun. To simply put it, that is NOT Sol, now perhaps it's because the atmosphere of that planet is filtering out blue light so that the light that reaches the 'camera' is mainly blue so it appears to not be a smaller cooler star. I don't know, but we'll find out sooner or later...hopefully.

Eh. A star takes hundreds of millions or billions of years to change from blue to yellow. Not a hundred thousand. Sol was formed about 4.7 (Can't remember, it's 4 point something) billion years ago, and thats why it doesn't make much sense to me.

BECAUSE, you silly man, it is ALL speculation. What you think may be truth now, but Bungie can change it on a whim. It's FICTION. Do not treat it like the real world. In fiction, rules can be broken to fit the idea of the creator. Concepts as of yet unheard of in the Halo franchise may be applied to better explain the vision of the creators. Real life is limited by laws and truths and is predictable, whereas fiction is incredibly dynamic, changing as the story advances. In short. Stop trying to guess what Bungie is up to. They are incredibly clever people. You'll love WHATEVER they come up with. .
