NOTE: This was originally supposed to be a discussion of parallels between Neomuna and the Last City, but this idea seems too important to leave as part of another discussion.
The Traveler has been a central, visible force in the Solar System, so various factions are drawn towards it in one form or another. The Eliksni wanted to reclaim the Traveler after it abandoned them; Ghaul and the Red Legion tried to cage it to claim the Light for themselves; the Hive want to take its Light, and are in service to the Witness. Because of this, the Guardians and the Last City have been constantly at war with those in pursuit of the Traveler for centuries.
However, although the Traveler was dormant on Earth for centuries, with no Last City established until around the time of the Iron Lords, the Vex seemingly ignored the Traveler and went after the Veil. Even when they couldn't retroactively insert themselves into the immediate area around the Veil, they went so far as to place a simulation akin to the Endless Night over the area, hiding Neomuna from the rest of the Solar System in the process.
The Vex acted in this manner when it came to Neptune and the Veil, but they've all but ignored the Traveler for centuries. Even when the Vex did make a direct attack on the city during Season of the Splicer, the Endless Night was orchestrated by Quria and Savathun, not by the Vex Collective itself. But it showed the Vex could make an incursion directly into the Last City if they wanted to. Even if the Traveler's immediate presence has a similar effect to the Veil, and can prevent their temporal excursions, they could set themselves up outside its range and fight their way toward it.
This isn't to say the Vex have no interest in the Light. Curse of Osiris' was about Panoptes finding a path to absolute victory after the Traveler's awakening, and it had to do with the Light. It could "see" Sagira's Light, and abducted Sagira as part of its pursuit of said goal.
But that was a recent event. Their incursion on Neptune occurred not long after the Collapse.
To add to the point, we know MSund12 was scouring the research logs about the Veil from the recent Veil Containment log and registered as a Vex signature. They want information about the Veil, specifically. There was even enough information in the Vex Network's records for Asher to manually piece together a simulation of the Veil.
Perhaps it is due to the Veil's nature as a "web of consciousness", a way for the Vex to develop paracausal simulations as Chioma Esi said.
With one last Veil Containment log, perhaps next week will give us an answer, or at least point us in the right direction.

Can someone link me the Asher / veil lore pls?

My guess is that after all the time and realities the Vex have existed in they probably would have know short of destroying the traveler there is nothing they could gain from it; because they still wouldn’t be able to wield and understand the light. However, to understand and wield the darkness it merely requires the right mindset, something that the vex are perfectly capable of doing by creating a new mind and studying and or simulating (aka the black heart) a target long enough. As for Msund12 that is a vex simulation of Maya Sundaresh; before the collapse Maya, Chioma, Lakshmi, and a few other Ishtar researchers were studying the Citadel on Venus and managed to access the vex network. The vex managed to simulate each of the researchers with near flawless precision a near infinite amount of times. Upon learning this Maya and co tried to gain control of these clones or destroy what they could and each gained control/contact with several copies of themselves. This was how “Lakshmi” and FWC were able to predict the future using the network by utilizing copies to retrieve various future simulations. Maya used this to be present at or cause multiple recorded events during the late golden age. Maya also lost control of one her copies and it helped the vex by manipulating Clovis Bray in his own Exo and Vex research. However, I don’t know if Msund12 is the rouge copy or a “good” copy we do know that it accessed something on Nessus several centuries ago;
and I suspect that it might be the vex in the cloud arc that told us about Titan in the stasis glaive exotic quest, although this may have been another Maya clone or Chioma clone.
I think they were the most aveilable

1 ReplyIt's exactly why u stated. If the veil is what they are saying it is a web of consciousness of the universe, then why not prioritize something that may have the most important answer to the question uve been asking for ur whole existence. They want to simulate paracausality so why not look into an artifact that has the consciousness of the whole universe

1 ReplyHonestly who even cares about what direction the narrative is going, Bungie sure doesn't. Why else would they not even talk about the Witness until Witch Queen, and claim they were what everything has been building to since D1. Which is a lie since the Witness and Pyramid Ships were never mentioned once in D1, unless you count characters vaguely talking about the darkness. The Pyramid Ships weren't even brought up until D2 Vanilla, then were completely ignored until Joker's Wild.

12 RepliesIt’s a retcon. The Black Heart was originally an artifact they found and worshipped. It gives them a place and reason, as the Vex origin was also retconned. As I recall, an old preD1 dev quote said they were a race of liquified people. Probably the converted remains of conquered civilizations given base D1 lore.

5 Replieswho honestly cares at this point, 95% of the Story has been Retconned into Oblivion that not even the Witness would go and Venture to Witness.

2 RepliesEdited by jhermannITJ: 8/14/2023 4:20:25 AMWow, you're explaining it differently than I would... but I'm adjacent in my analysis. There is no light here. The veil is the bottleneck of the waterclock or sandglass. The traveler is the dam constructed to disrupt the natural order of the universe. However, the veil is not a thing... a material thing... the Veil is "determinism". Yup, it's pretty deep. Don't let people tell you it's retconn either; same as it ever was. Not an entirely novel conceit, though what is significant is Bungie has mostly kept it under wraps for 9 yrs. Oh, examples in popular media... the Wizard of Oz, the Matrix (specifically "what is the matrix"? [veil])... I like Proyas's Dark City which is an adaptation of Metropolis... or the Rick & Morty episode about his vehicle's battery. These are all versions of Paese dei balocchi (The Land of Toys) from The Adventures of Pinocchio 1883. This is, in Destiny & Destiny 2... The Endless Night. The Vex, I believe want to break through the Veil... the deterministic construct the Witness created. We know it simply as the "Tribute". Which is Greek myth... the story of Cronus, the father-in-law of Leto... guess who that is in Destiny? I've talked about all of this... this all ties in with my other stuff. The statue is a take on the Effigy of Isis... it's a real thing. And Isis in classical conceits and her Veil represents determinism... the "eye of savathun"... that's the "all seeing eye" which is also a marker for Isis and determinism. Destiny. Get it? That's why the Vex prioritized the Veil. MSund12 is subject 12. "We're very lucky, when you think about it. -Mr. Hand Emma- I'm sorry? Mr. Hand- To be able to revisit those places... which meant so very much to us. Emma- I thought we were haunted by them. MH- Perhaps. There used to be a ferry when I was a boy. Biggest thing you ever saw. Lit up like a floating birthday cake. E- That's just what my husband once said to me. On this very spot. MH- Where is your husband now? E- I wish I knew. What brings you here? MH- I met my wife at this place. E- It's where I met my husband. MH- Small world". From Dark City. Everyone's story is a lie.
