I was never a vocal supporter of doing away with SBMM but I must admit I was quietly a huge proponent of it, thinking it would make the PvP experience better. I was dead wrong. Here’s why: sweats will always sweat. Doesn’t matter if they’re playing other sweats of somebody without thumbs bc that’s what they do. The argument they make about not wanting to try hard every game bc it’s stressful and they just want to chill doesn’t add up bc you’re out here on CBMM with ZERO chill mercy ruling casuals.
A return to SBMM is the right move for the game and the crucible.

Yeah I don't see why there can't be both as an option

3 RepliesI keep seeing this post and I just have to ask What the -blam!- is a SBMM or CBMM
-
Even SBMM won’t save this PvP mess. A lot of the players already admitted that sweating in this kind of PvP (not ranked and just for funsies) wanted CBMM just to steamroll others. Plenty on YouTube and I’m not your Google.
-
They don't want opponents to battle, they want victims to humiliate. No bully targets a kid who is likely to actually hurt them.

4 RepliesI really can't see why we can't have a cbmm and a sbmm playlist, everyone will be happy and we'll stop seeing discussions about what's best.

I'm glad you realized you were wrong but IMO it's a little late. Plenty of people warned you of what you're now realizing...

You were wron G.

12 RepliesEdited by TheCyo: 5/13/2021 11:26:34 PMReal world data-driven testing shows that SBMM is the way to go. And that's why basically every game out there runs with it, except Destiny, the last safe haven for pub stompers. Quotes from Apex Game Director Chad Grenier:
“We’ve done tests where we change the skill-based matchmaking rules, or turn it off in certain areas, certain data centres for a period of time and we collect data, and there’s concrete evidence that having skill-based matchmaking in our game makes players play longer, play more, increases retention, increases play hours,”

“When we turn skill-based matchmaking off, we see new players come into the game and they turn away much sooner, because they’re getting matched with high-tier players and they’re getting stomped,” he added. “So we have concrete evidence that skill-based matchmaking is good for the overall health of the game. That’s why we haven’t addressed it.”
Original Article is here: https://www.vg247.com/2020/06/03/why-apex-legends-has-sbmm/ But CBMM proponents are like flat earthers, you can show them all the data there is and they won't believe it.

Hey, respect to you for admiting you were wrong. Damn decent of you. And an admirable trait.

17 RepliesSweats dont always sweat. Lets clear something up. A player doing well in a match doesnt automaticly mean they are "sweating" ive been just chilling, laid back in my chair casually playing and just dumping on the whole lobby, then got hate mail calling me a tryhard. Lmao Sbmm should only be a thing for really bad players
-
I don’t believe that, It’s the same with trials. All it is the lack of players, for example when igneous was for 3 wins for the first time. Trials was actually fun, i saw ppl who never had a chance get flawless or get close. Pvp in general is a problem to less skilled players not bc it has sweats but bc there is no reason in pvp to draw in more players for the casuals to compete with. Even if there was SBMM pvp would be dead and all of you would just move on to complaining about trials bc that’s where the loot is, not QP, not comp. trials and you’ll ask for that to be SBMM. I’m not saying I want casuals to be matched with sweats, I’m saying to fix pvp you must give causals a reason to try and get better. That’s why raid are so popular, they have amazing loot, even Gms. Both of the activities are challenging and require investment and now casuals are motivated to get better in those endgame activities, pvp is the same. Make the investment worth it and casuals will get better and learn to enjoy it bc they were motivated to give it a try and get better. Motivation is what we need and ppl get motivated when it’s worth doing and it’s only worth doing if there’s good rewards and loot. That’s what we need.

3 RepliesI don't "sweat" but in pure SBMM, I am punished for simply playing well. Approaching QP with a mindset of solely winning rather than practicing makes a player more of a "tryhard sweat" than the actual "sweats" they claim to be facing. I wish they would expand on the Comp playlist for players and offer Clash and Control weeks. SBMM Comp Clash/Control would be quite fun.

16 RepliesJust look up like they are "crying" about stasis. Only the "top tier" PvP players are really pissed by stasis. I mean, I am pretty average and I just adapted to it. And I am fine with it now, agree it changed PvP drastically, but to "kill" stasis or even worse to remove it from PvP, really? Now "bad" players can kill someone who is better, cuz of statsis. For me its ok. "Pro players" just want to get their 50+ bombs without sweating. But with CBMM the casuals have to sweat almost every round now, cuz the enemy got atleast one "wannabe Tfue". Or you just keep playing your loadout and get stomped. I am casual, but perma seeing the revive screen isnt "fun". Idk just let people decide which MM they want to use, make it an option.

Sweats cant play against sweats because they hate the fact there are better players then them. So they pub stomp casuals thinking they are god lmao. So sad but hey it still doesn't change the fact that you will never be the best and you need to kill people like us in casual matches to get you that false feeling of accomplishment. Those who wanted SBMM out were sweeties who cant take a beating from people their skill level Facts.

10 RepliesWhat I am struggling to understand is why this is an either-or conversation. Why can’t it be both,...a logic-based construct that first analyzes Streak (SBMM), then matches based on connection (CBMM)? I fail to believe this logic-based approach is too complex of a programming problem to be reasonable.

8 RepliesCbmm is a mess. Every iron banner people are all over the forums mad about games ending in mercy. Cbmm just encourages this happening. That being said the skill based that bungie implements is a poor representation of what sbmm could be. Randomly placing 12 in a lobby than trying to balance the teams punishes better players. I can’t count how many games you top frag against a team of all right or average players and loose because your entire team goes negative. Having one person in the lobby whose better almost guarantees they need to carry and most likely won’t be rewarded.

2 RepliesEdited by Truthiness_Inc: 5/13/2021 4:04:59 PMIf you believe international matches with p2p connectivity putting 3 different continents in at the same time is "connection based" I've got a bridge in florida to sell you...because that's what happens now. The problem is game devs have us thinking its either connections are good or skill matches are good when it doesn't have to be one or the other. The problem is their p2p garbage. We will never have good connections within this system without either region locking (not going to happen) or ping limits.

Edited by cycofreak3: 5/14/2021 4:54:18 PMA return to SBMM is the right move for the game and the crucible? In your opinion, because you're ignoring everyone who isn't you. A return to SBMM won't fix the problems people have, there will always be more. The issue is that we shouldn't need to choose. Bungie need to commit one way or the other. Either suck it up and work on dedicated servers or nut up and tell the community that this is going to be how it is from now on so that there isn't a portion of the population who literally cannot play due to queue times, connection, etc.
-
47 RepliesThe issue is the connections.... high skill lobbies are unplayable because made up if people from 6 continents The only people sbmm helps are the lowest skill tier ... the outliers
-
1 ReplyDo we even have cbmm? It honestly doesn’t feel like the connections are even remotely good anymore lol.
-
1 ReplyEvery player I encounter is always near same kd as me, and these guys are rubber banding and blinking all over. I don’t believe this is cbmm, theres now way.

I don't know what the answer is on the SBMM versus CBMM, but whatever we have going on now is not working. Last season I ended with a 1.30 KD overall according to destiny tracker (1.91 KAD in game) and there were about 30% of the matches where folks were laggy. So far this season I have played probably 20-30 rounds of control and my KAD is sitting at 1.02...The issue isn't people "sweating" in the matches neccessarily, the issue is the connection...When I can have a match were all my shots hit where I'm aiming (the head) and then others (the majority it seems) just whif, along with people clearing lagging, It is not fun. I like to try out new weapons and loadouts, but when the connection is terrible (like now), I write off potentially great weapons thinking they suck and just use the "meta" (albeit I prefer my palindrome to my god roll igneous's)...The issue is not SBMM versus CBMM, we just need to ensure there is a stable connection for all players in the lobby. I don't mind losing engagements to better players, that is how you get better; however, when the connection is bad and shots don't even register, that makes me not even want to play at all.
