As for the accomplishments of the past, what I was really getting is that there was no one else to do the job because nearly everyone was religious. So I don’t think we have a particularly accurate gauge for that.
Of course there’s some overlap but there are plenty of points in which they are not compatible. What it usually relies on is the religious side continually being pushed beyond the bounds of what we know in order to preserve the belief. Which I honestly find to be an intellectually dishonest thing to do and it’s part of why I don’t think the religious ideas should be revered and perpetuated as they are.
