This Sidearm Quest Specifically Shows the State of This Game

1. Play the activity and get the quest 2. Go to the Tower 3. Go to an old crucible map we've used before for a quest 4. You're done Honestly that's laughable, or you could cry. Either will suffice. Bungie, what are you all doing over there? Did Eververse sales plummet recently? This is an anticipated quest that can be done within an hour. There's no challenge at all. Nothing new in fact it's old. This pretty much sums up the state of destiny 2 at this point. Every one of you knows this was lazy and uninspired

  • I enjoyed it. I got up for work this morning, put the kettle on and thought I'd log in to see what was w as happening after reset. Went and got the quest, went to Twighlight Gap, found the robots, enjoyed the banter with Shaxx and Saint as I finished breakfast. Went to work happy. No mindless grinding, no time gating, no nonsense. I liked it, but then I loved getting Touch of Malice too. Variety is they key.

  • So what did you want? Kill 1000 enemies with side arms? Go to 20 lost sectors and clear them out? This side arm quest with a lot of dialogue is nice for a change. This side arm actually has more meaning than any other exotic released by far with the exception of whisper and outbreak perfected (last hour mission). Hearing saint, osiris and shaxx interact with each other was a breath of fresh air. We actually need more of this, maybe next time bungie could actually add the characters to the mission or make a cutscene instead of the typical boring grinds we normally do for every exotic.

On the other hand, if this was a lengthy or difficult quest people would complain about that. There's no pleasing both the hardcore and casual sides of the playerbase. I'm personally hoping that since Devil's Ruin was on the shorter/easier side that Bastion will be on the longer/more difficult side.

    • Why doesn’t anyone realize they have given up? Like Its simply going to be $10 dollar DLC every 3 months to milk you... There is no plan for a Destiny 3...Or even a new raid.. Their last ditch effort is going to be Trials coming back and then just reskinned dungeons ... the best at bungie are working on another IP.. Wake up... stop being stuck in the matrix lol.

I don’t think it’s lazy at all. I think the quest is a response to the volume of complaints regarding the tedium of the IB quest, amongst other things. Bungie decided to throw the community a ‘proverbial’ bone and made the new exotic something accessible that everyone should be able to get. If anything the new exotic quest just shows how opposed the two different ‘sides’ of the community are.

      • I dont see a problem..the quest is fine to me. Every exotic quest doesn’t have to be so long and extensive.

        • If they really were being lazy, then why didn't they just skip writing/recording/editing of any dialogue and just slap a text block at the end with the reward?

        • The relative ease of completing the quest suggests that Bungie wants Devil's Ruin deployed quickly for all active users.
Every one of you knows this was lazy and uninspired
The entertaining NPC dialog says otherwise. ;) ...unless you left the map without listening to it.

They aren’t going to put resources into D2 for seasonal content that isn’t in the EV store. If that’s the case I prefer a short lore filled quest to yet another grind out x kills here talk to y go to z and grind out x kills there play time passing exotic quest. You’re only going to get one whisper/outbreak quest a year. If that. So if there are going to be multiple exotic quests a season I would prefer they are like this one and don’t pretend like they are anything more than padding playtime pointlessly.

        • I'm just going to copy my reply from another post...
I'm going to have to go with the "happy about this quest" group. I really didn't want to have to travel from planet to planet scanning what's its and killing 1000 enemies with sidearm precision kills, then go do a 980 special version of Tree of Probabilities using only a sidearm to kill the boss while one hit kill heat seeking missiles rain down on us from above every 1.5 seconds. Just to get the frame to take to Shaxx for him to tell us we have to defeat 500 Guardians with precision final blows using a blue sidearm, but only on Twilight Gap in Survival. Then take the gun to Saint so he can tell us we have to solo a Legend version of his 2nd story mission with Extinguish, Match Game, Attrition, Unstoppable Champions, and Blackout modifiers. Edit: it was just leaked that THOSE requirements are going to be for the catalyst....
• Some quests are just to draw you into trying content that you might not otherwise try such as crucible. Take the railrunner quest, truthfully it teaches you how to do precision jumping.

          • I just love how any time a quest releases there’s always a complaint. If they do a mission like whisper, it’s criticized for being too difficult with a time limit. If it has pvp, it’s criticized for ‘forcing’ people to play pvp. And if there’s a degree of difficulty to the quest there’s always complaining about that.

For 10$ I think we had a pretty good season. We got two great new missions, an old character returned, sundial is a decent horde mode. People have absurd expectations. Dont get me wrong, u should always set expectations high but there is a line that has to be drawn. Also, let me remind u, every time a grindy quest comes out the forums light on fire. Every. Single. Time. An easy one comes out and guess what? People are mad again! Tf? I dont think bungie has the capability to make whisper and zero hour style missions every season. Would I like to see more missions like that? Yes! Is it realistic given the fact that they lost two studios and the backing of a huge corporation? Probably not.

              • Bungie knows the sidearm is utter wank, that's why they put it behind a 10 minute quest. Anything longer would have been an insult.

              • Never ever the one to be on Bungie's side but isn't this one of those blamed if you blamed if you don't situations. I mean how about 400 sidearm kills in comp...... Oh oh oh we could have getting 8 million sidearm kills in strikes or nightfalls. Isn't this how the neverending grind quests have been of late? Instead we got a weapon handed to us with a sit down at the end to listen to Shax and Saint talking as titans likely like to do. Seemed fine to me. It was not much of a quest for not much of an exotic aaaaaand moving on.

              • "Wahhhh getting 10 kills in PvP is too hard. There's too many steps. We want our reward now." The forums literally last week.

              • After all the complaints about Osiris barely being in Curse of Osiris and expansions being small/light on story, we get a Season and especially a simple quest full of story and significance and major characters interacting in interesting ways. And people complain. 'Lazy and uninspired' LMFAO

              • It's better than most of what we've gotten recently. Least it's actually interesting and gets the exotic in your hand quicker then: Shoot 500 enemies of a specific variety. As someone who hates the current state of D2 since this season stuff started this quest actually made me want to play more.

              • It makes me wonder if the intention was for it to be rewarded in heroic sundial and it was accidentally given out in normal. It would make more sense at least that it was rewarded in heroic. They’ve not done this before which makes me wonder if it was a blunder.

                • Sums up the state of the season, not Destiny 2. I predict somewhere in the near future we will get a wisper/outbreak type mission and everybody will love Bungie again for a couple of weeks.

                • I liked that quest, exactly something I expect from quest. Just do some small amount of activity and get reward, I do not like when quest dictates what you have to do, sometimes in absurd numbers like 40 matchechs, 450 crucible kills with specific weapon, 1500 kills with specific weapon in strikes .... It is just mechanical work which can be boring for part of players who do not like that activity. Go and play whatever you want, have fun. I would like to see that exotics have "cost" do X activities/kills and so, then when you do that you get progress, you can chose more difficult activities, specific weapons for bonus progress. It does not force players to do what they dont like. And of course dont do it absurd numbers 20-50-100 points as maximum, kill for one, kill with specifick weapon bonus 1 point, specific activity plus 1 point... combine activity and weapon and you have bonus progress gives you 4 points instad of three. You can try play as Bungie wants to most effective progress, or you can play what you like, but have to play it little bit more.
