Edited by PilksUK: 10/4/2019 3:34:11 PMDestiny is nothing like an MMO..... Its closer to COD than a MMO..
-
Can you give a reason other than it’s also an FPS?
-
Edited by PilksUK: 10/4/2019 5:18:03 PMIts instanced based limited to a small amount of players per instance, no skill customization, no real character customization, no crafting, no proper faction/guild/clan features, no world chat channels, no Depth, significance, or persistence, no exploration... I could go on and on as MMO's tend to have a lot of features that Destiny doesn't... COD is an instanced based shooter with level progression and weapon customization system so thats why I say Destiny is closer to COD than an MMO but thinking about maybe thats not fair but its defo closer to Dauntless/monster hunter than an MMO.

This whole "casual"/"hardcore" argument is so detremental to this game, as a way for elitist snowflakes to feel special for being "hardcore". "Hardcore" players are a minority, period. If you're a "hardcore" pvp-er, minority. "Hardcore" raider; minority. It's cool if you have the time to devote 90 hours a week to the game and have a team carry you through raids 3 times a week, but that doesn't make you (or anyone) "Hardcore". It's cool if you (or anyone) can play Comp 18 hours a day and get carried to Legend in one sitting, but that doesn't mean you're "hardcore". All "hardcore" and "casual" are are words that make someone feel superior to someone else because they have a team to carry them in endgame activities. I can guarantee you there's some solo "casual" players that could stomp any activity in this game but don't get the opportunity to because they don't have a team, so because they play solo they get labeled "casual". I guarantee you there's people who only play this game 2 hours a day because of obligations (work, family) that could stomp any activity in this game that get labeled "casual" because they can't play 18-20 hours a day. All the "casuals" have left this game; D1 had 33mil players, D2 had 15mil; now it's less that 1mil most days. Sure, new players are here now because of a new expansion so numbers are up, but in a few weeks they'll get burnt out on "the grind" (on top of grind, on top of grind, on top of grind...) for materials to upgrade the things you earned and want to use, then they'll be gone again. If people could stop labeling people in this game then maybe a game could be made for everyone, not minority outliers. Everyone paid the same price for this game, so no one should feel more special than anyone else, and minority players should not be leading the direction of development. Of course, since only 5% are "hardcore" (if defined by endgame completion rates), we could all quit playing the game and investing in it, and take our "casual" money elsewhere.

Your entire statement just shows how angry you are at the game. The term hardcore or casual is not for anyone to feel special. I enjoy playing casual games when I want that experience. I enjoy playing hardcore games when I want that experience. The terms are used to describe a kind of game and it’s play styles. Not whatever superiority complex you think it is. I enjoy the hardcore aspects of destiny but I also enjoy the casual aspects of a game like MHW. I would not have bought that game if I was told it was hardcore because I do not want to dedicate a crazy amount of time to it like I do destiny. The problem is destiny is marketed and built as a hardcore game and people want it to become a casual game. That’s not the game, Call of duty is not an RPG, Halo is not a telltale game, borderlands is not an MMO. Destiny being considered a hardcore game is essentially a description of how it plays. Again it is not a way for people to feel special but you got some reason seem to think that. Who hurt you?
-
Not angry, not hurt. You're the one telling people to "get out if they don't like it". How is that good for the game?
-
I’m telling people to find a different game of they don’t like the way it’s built. I would say the same to someone who wanted destiny to be a moba
-
It's not even for the hardcore players either. Bungie doesn't know what this is but its not a MMO. It's more like (Masive Mini Teams.)
-
Since when are MMO and casual incompatible?
-
You must be real fun at parties.
-
They've already said the game is no longer for casuals. Its an MMO. Get used to grinding or get out
Get gud
-
Downvoted. Go -blam!- your self if you think this is a good idea.
-
It is a perfectly fine idea. Also what OP did not mention is the final resource you need is a farmable drop from Nightfall the ordeal
-
Where did they state this? I just searched for about 10 minutes and cannot find any trace of where they even hinted at this.
-
Literally one of the first things they say in the Shadowkeep reveal is the game is an MMO. The game is under the MMO tag. Since its inception its been referred to as an MMO and just now is bungie say it themselves. Are you using Bing?
-
Since its inception its been referred to as an MMO...
LOL, those that have been saying that clearly have no clue what an MMO is. And you are like them. Destiny STILL ISN'T AN MMO at present day. Not even close to that.
-
How is it not an MMO? Since year 1 It was an MMO lite and since Forsaken it has been an MMO. I play plenty of MMOs and it fits the bill.
-
Edited by CookieNiki: 10/3/2019 8:14:20 PMYes, Destiny has a persistent world residing on remote servers but that's as far as it goes as an MMO. Gamewise has always been an co-op first person shooter.
-
Every MMO Is Co-op so thats a supporting statement So your only argument is that its a FPS? You think FPS games can't be MMOs...... That says enough lmao.
-
No, that wasn't an argument. That was the definition and the cornerstone of Destiny, being an FPS. Even Bungie stated that repeatedly since the beginning. Destiny being an MMO was NEVER in Bungie's plans and vision for Destiny.
-
Destiny is an FPS I never disputed that. An FPS can be an MMO. Case In point being Destiny. During the reveal stream Mark himself said they didn't want to call it an MMO because that came with "baggage" but if it walks like a duck, talks like a duck Its a duck. That Is a lead bungie dev saying not only IS the game an MMO It HAS been one
-
And what fundamental characteristics of an MMO you found all these years in Destiny besides being an persistent online multiplayer game?
-
The fundamental characteristics of an MMO Is the fact its an persistent online multiplayer game. You are asking. "So why Is Destiny an MMO except for it being an MMO?" So lets list the other reasons you need since apparently even bungie is wrong and you are right -Single world -Evolving universe -Hundreds of thousands of players on the same server Why Is it not an MMO to you? It even fits the acronym of MASSIVE MULTIPLAYER ONLINE
-
No, but I am searching for "They've already said the game is no longer for casuals".
-
The game being an MMO is them saying that. The game getting near 100 nerfs is saying that. You're joking if you thought I meant they literally said that. Read between the lines
