Hey all,
Cozmo and I are currently collecting some feedback on Sniper Rifles. We have been for some time, but we wanted to centralize the source of feedback to an extent.
Do you have feedback on Sniper Rifles? Are there any QOL style improvements that you'd want for this weapon archetype? What currently works well, and what would you want to see changed?
This does not guarantee any specific changes will be made, but we wanted to ensure your thoughts are properly represented when we pass feedback along to the team.
Quick note, Rapid Fire Sniper Rifles will be receiving a buff tomorrow. Currently, Guardians require 3 body shots to be defeated, tomorrow this will be reduced to 2 body shots. With that in mind, are there any other changes you'd like to see?
Cheers,

I get the sneaky suspicion that, even based on framing this thread on crucible body shots, Destiny is evolving into just a PvP game. I’d like to point out Fortnite and SW did the same thing, started completely in PvE then found money in creating (for better or worse) a Battleroyale and just said screw the narrative. Now, there is nothing wrong with that and it’s been great for players and developers. However, I don’t think Destiny was ever intended to be that sort of experience. So instead of a veiled question asking how we would like snipers balanced or enhanced, but changed to fight other guardians- why not be transparent in the reason for the question. Why would I care to recommend a sniper that can kill a huge boss better when what you really want is support for a sniper with creative TTK? Hence the absurdly easy and boring revival of the PvP craziness of the Last Word. What’s next? Icebreaker? Can’t be the mythoclast because that was the first gun nerfed because it threw off PvP and it would invite going back to square one and having this same thread 5 years from now...if you’re lucky.

1 ReplyHello, I would just like to say that snipers are fine the way they are right now, so please don't buff snipers, and don't reduce flinch or increase hit box because with that you're taking away the skill gap that separates a pro sniper from a bad sniper. A few suggestions I have for tweeks and ideas on snipers are: buff box breathing, put slide shot or slide ways on some y2 snipers, and maybe introduce a lightweight frame archetype of snipers.
-
1 ReplyPlease make box breathing actually useful the ikelos sniper is kinda a joke and you'll usually never want to sit still for 5 seconds over and over

Adjust the handling on snipers but do not touch the flinch done by weapons with high cal on them, that's why players seek out that specific perk on weapons. Armor mods to reduce flinch on weapons should be fixed to make it work the way it's intended. How abt yuh guys fix the problem of hand cannons out gunning scouts and pulse rifles beyond 25meters. Scout rifles are still not doing anything close to what they were doing in D1. Where's my Deadshot Luna type of scout that was in D1? Also do not nerf One Eyed mask, there's noth'n broken abt it, you guys are always nerfing things and killing the power fantasy, just to appease what's go'n on in PvP, this is why I wish PvP was never in the game, then armor and weapons would remain to be rewarding and fun. Look what you guys did to Mythoclast and the Pocket Infinity. Stop needing thing for PvP, just make everything viable to use with the right combo of perks, and armor mods. Also fix the titan hammers!!! How is it that a titan can only throw 4-5 hammers, but a dawn blade can throw 8-10 swords before their super is finished. And fix the tracking on hammers and bring them inline with what D1 had. They also need a buff, a golden can kill a titan in his super but if he gets hit directly with a hammer he walks away with no damage, even with both having masterwork armor.

I feel that snipers could use box breathing to be buffed. I understand why it got nerfed when the snipers were in the heavy slot so the damages were not so close to things like Darcy or whisper. But now that there in the special slot those sniper got a all around damage nerf. I would suggest bring box breathing back to what it use to be or increasing precision damage while decreasing ads time requirements.

Just make flinch go downward. If I'm hitting them a million miles away, flinch shouldn't be that high. But if I am hitting them up close with an auto, then the flinch should be noticeable. Also, hard scoping is trash. Y2 d1 was awful because of all the hard scopers. Also, give snipers 3 shots.

As a sniper Main since day 1 d1 i think quick handling and Short Zoom like in d1 is the way to go, i mean i would like to have less flinch but then again the Salt from other Players will be to much, so quick Handling and Short Zoom

Bring back No Mans Land

What about adding a variable zoom to all scopes so we still retain some difference in their abilities and feelings but can personalize the zoom between like 1-4 in increments of 0.5 or something similar?
-
If flinch drop off could exist, so your not getting flinched as hard when someone is out of their intended weapon range would be amazing. So as soon as a weapon experiences damage falloff, it also would reduce the amount of flinch dealt to an opponent at the same scale as damage fall off.

Bring back Icebreaker.

In PvE: High RoF snipers shoot far too quickly to accurately hit all shots on a boss for any decent dps. And the per-shot damage is just far too low for me to want to use them. They lack the feeling of power they had in D1. All snipers with triple digit RPM feel like a waste outside of the few scenarios (like raids) where you can unload a whole 7 bullet mag on a precision spot as fast as the gun shoots. Snipers should be about lining up the precision shot for massive damage, not spamming the trigger and constantly fighting recoil. That's why people only use low RoF snipers

Edited by hurdur26: 1/30/2019 6:21:18 PMI think that we need more long range maps to d2. I wouldn't mind if we got some old destiny maps back that are long range. Regarding flinch the unflinching perks should feel like they actually reduce flinch.

Not much of a pvp person myself so for pve all legendary snipers need a large damage increase to be competitive in pve. I want another option to use instead of shotguns. Izanamis Burden is a good replacement but it's an exotic. Another option I was thinking of is make box breathing work similarly to trench barrel where it gets 3 shots or is on some timer before it runs out because right now if I see box breathing on anything aside from the raid scout I will immediatally dismantle it. Or even add some new damage perk on snipers.
-
2 RepliesI think box breathing needs to be buffed in order to compete with the insane damage out put of trench barrel maybe give box breathing 3 shots then require a reset?

Edited by FdYAcsoyPKN83gLE: 1/30/2019 6:04:00 PMMake shooting snipers feel like a sniper in D1 because the vibration feels less responsive and satisfying to shoot within D2.

Snipers definitely need an adjustment in both pve and pvp. The main issue for me with snipers in pvp is the flinch. If I get shot by anything my entire scope moves half way across the screen preventing me from hitting anything. In pve, the only good dps snipers are Whisper and Darci because the outclass everything by a mile. Legendary snipers need some love. In my opinion, improving legendary snipers is easy, restore box breathing to what it was before it was nerfed to the ground.

Perhaps adding the option to aim snipers in someway without using the scope? Like in Gears Of War for example where you could aim down sights, then click the right stick to look through the scope? That would certainly be an helpful one, without having to change the scopes or weapons themselves too drastically.

I would recommend increased ammo in crucible matches, other than that everything else is great👍
-
Snipers are in a decent place. As far as PvP is concerned the design of the maps tends not to favour sniper usage.
-
Snipers and shotguns are honestly okay where they are imo. It just seems like destiny map design always leans toward close quarter fast paced angles (for obvious reasons) which are conducive to shotguns and make sniping difficult even for the skilled. Snipers are 18wheelers and you’re asking us to drive them in an obstacle course in a parking lot. Obviously a Prius would be more ideal for those circumstances.

I see a lot of people wanting a reduction on flinch and I don't think they should. Most weapons in D2 suffer from flinch because flinch in general is nuisance in this game. Not just for sniper rifles. Plus poor Sweet Business got a awful poopy catalist because Bungie recognizes how bad flinch is. Regardless, the solution shouldn't be to reduce flinch just for sniper rifles but to make the damn flinch reduction armor perks that all guns get actually be impactful. I swear, I hardly feel a difference from those perks. This way, sniper rifles can feel better to use but still maintain the high risk high reward status and make other weapons slightly more viable when getting pelted by something like a bygones.
-
I would say that flinch could be reduce a little bit, but not to much 'cause you dont want to be shooting a player sniping and feel your shots dont have any effect. However, I definitively think that handling does need some sort of buff, cause even with a sniper dexterity perk, it does feel like you cant shot right away when you switch to your primary.

1 ReplyYour post appears to be PVP centric because of the mention about the change to Rapid Fire Frames and the change to the PVP sandbox. Snipers need a full rework in PVE. Only 2 worth running and they are in the heavy slot - Izanagis is a slight exception here but with the Ammo economy you’d be better with Whisper/Darci and a decent special ammo weapon. Outside of this Fusions or Trench Barrel shotguns are the only real options for proper DPS.
