The Truth About Luna’s/Not Forgotten
Luna’s and Not Forgotten have been a hot topic as of late. Nerf posts, cry posts and OP posts have been abundant.
[b]The reality is, unless you were one of the few that obtained theses guns in the first week, you had to climb without/against them; just like everyone else. [/b]
I was using my Ace of Spades until I finished my Luna quest at 2800 glory; I had seen and versed many Luna’s at this point.
I didn’t reach legend until just after half way through the season; I was versing many 4 man teams with Not Forgotten from 4000 glory upwards.
Ask yourself this, why have people been able to climb ranked without Luna’s/NF?
The reason you can’t climb comp isn’t because you’re versing people with Luna’s/NF while you don’t have them (we all went though that), it’s because you’re not as good as you think.

[b]Your[/b] positioning, aim, angles, movement, teamwork, map knowledge, awareness, strategy and gun play [b]all[/b] need improving.
[b]The truth about Luna’s/Not Forgotten is that they reward a skilled hand when used within their effective range. [/b]
Outside of this, they are a below average 180 handcannon.
Most players with Luna’s are average (or slightly above) and most players with Not Forgotten are top tier. These players are the same ones that did well with MIDA, Uriel’s, Antiope, Last Hope, Vigilance Wing and Graviton Lance simply because they know how to use a gun in its effective range and adapt to the meta.
[b]The take home is this, the majority of us that have Luna’s/NF made the climb without them; stop blaming guns and look at yourself. [/b]
[b]TL;DR[/b] Luna’s and Not Forgotten are not OP, you need to get better at the game.

24 RepliesDude, a luna user can kill a trust user even if the trust user hitted a headshot before the luna user... Yes, luna rewards skill, but it DOESNT take THAT much skill to use, you know a weapon that does take skill and reward skill? Redrix, hence why nobody uses it, because it takes the real skill, hitting 2 headshots with a no recoil weapon that have 79 aim assist even without perks and mods to help, is not a skill weapon, redrix have 39 aim assist, GRAVITON LANCE, the weapon that is one of the easiest to hit in the game, have 60 aim assist, thats 19 less than luna, and luna can be improved with an mod, be that backup mag or target adjuster, or any pvp mod will make it even more op, not to mentiom handcannon targeting helmet perk, unflinching handcannon perk, handcannon reload perk, not to mention its a 180 handcannon that can 3 shot being only 2 in the head and 1 body, its just pathetic, a 3 year old child would be able to use it, and dont come with the talk that its crap at long range, because NO maps in destiny 2 doesnt give you a option of close to mid range, ALL maps have an area that are close to mid and you can just stay there and you'll never have to fight at long range, all D2 maps were designed to close range and thats a fact, making luna one of the most pathetic crutch i've ever seen inside a game, i didnt even bother going after it because its probably very boring playing with it, stomping people is tedious

2 RepliesAllow me to make a counter point. First, let's get something out of the way; I am not calling Luna's OP. I am not calling for nerfs. I am not calling for a casualization of the gun (if any of you have seen my previous posts, you know how I feel about pinnacle weapons in PvP as a whole). Now, onto my point. Luna's, within its range, is the best weapon. Within its range there isn't a single weapon that can stand up to it without having either a God roll, or having some sort of special effort made. Luna's TTK is so high and the gun is so stable that, in a 1v1 in which players are equal skill, whichever player has Luna's will win. While the gun rewards precision, you literally dont have to change anything about your game play to reap its rewards (you are trying to hit all headshots anyway). Now, how we make make better. Personally, I believe we need better maps. Deadass, so many of the maps in D2 favor that medium range, and almost none of them offer options for combat outside of that medium range (more specifically, there aren't enough maps with longer sight lines that aren't impeded). If we fix the map situation, then I think a lot of these cries of "OP" would lessen.

Edited by michael: 12/31/2018 2:26:32 PMi agree with most of what you have said here. however, i will stick to my argument that i have used in the past that lunas howl and not forgotten being balanced due to “rewarding precision” is a false way to justify their strength. All hand cannons of all rpms and impact reward precision, lunas howl and not forgotten just reward the user more but with no added skill requirement. any good player is going to be hitting all of their headshots anyway resulting in a straight up faster time to kill than hitting bodyshots. magnificent howl just rewards precision even more, but the headshots aren’t any harder to hit. in fact, lunas howl is probably one of the easiest 180rpm hand cannons to hit consecutive headshots with due to its outstanding stability and aim assist values on it. not to mention headshots in general are extremely easy to hit on console due to aim assist doing a lot of the work for you, so saying “rewards a skilled user” i personally feel like is a bit of a stretch. given all of this i feel like lunas howl is a bit imbalanced. TLDR lunas howl gives a much greater reward for hitting the same number of precision shots than other hand cannons that are equally if not more difficult to be precise with. and before you say i’m just salty because i don’t have it, i do have it along with almost 2000 crucible kills with it. i’m one of the few i have seen who has it but is unbiased towards it.

Truth is these guns are probably the hardest to get in the game and they should be good. They should be very forgiving with recoil and aim and hit boxes should be nice and fat for crits. Otherwise what's the reward for getting them? Tough to obtain should equal ridiculously tough to beat...

3 RepliesYou are talking about team stacks I’m assuming. What about the solo player? People leaving matches early? The extremely rare occasion of a ddos or disconnect? Lag? There are other variables besides skill gap. I’m a solo que. I grinded through the claymore quest in a week when it was out. When team shots were the only way to win. I still don’t have my Luna cause people leaving games early. You can’t solely blame skill gap, that’s ignorant

I just dont think it was a gun they should have added I have luna and only use it when I'm getting shot by someone using it but my issue is your being rewarded for do something you should be doing with guns in general get headshots big whoop why is it that you need a gun for doing what you should have been doing to begin with? And all the other weapons are bad pulse and grenade launcher I mean I'm hoping the next pinnacle can atleast fight them....make a bow that 1 shots on next precision kill 🤣🤣🤣 that would -blam!- with people but yeah I'm just throwing things out there I suppose I'll go for the not forgotten cause I'm better then most when I actually try but still idk seems unfair to most who cant get the gun cause they suck and have to suffer

15 RepliesUhhh. Wrong. Mag howl perk breaks the hand cannon damage model by default. It is designed to be broken amd it really, really is. Not to mention the fact that the range is absurd when combined with the perk. If you dont think luna helps ok players puff up their kd youre out of your mind. Luna/NF in the hands of the truly skilled is basically like why bother. Youre dead before you can aim youre weapon half the time. Luna is another stupid mistake on the part of the crucible devs. No one is surprised. Its thorn all over again except luna isnt going to get nerfed. You think people cry cause its op, imagine the hurricane of tears that would ensue if they actually nerfed it. There would be a try hard suicide spree.

4 RepliesNo, people are complaining rightfully so when they get into unfair matches. You can't work on your positioning when you are against players who are way out of your skill level or are a full stack while you are a solo unable to communicate with your team/they won't listen to you. The fact Bungie allows full 4 stacks and has matchmaking similar to that of quickplay in competitive is just ignorance. You can't see how acurately YOU are as a player if you are playing against players that aren't of the same skill level or are able to use teamwork efficiently while you are given a bunch of players who don't do the same.

This topic is a double edge sword. Yes the guns are great but they are also well deserved for people who busted their ass for it. And when using Luna in comp. there are weapons that can beat it. And I can use a blue hand cannon and still wreck a scrub with a good weapon. These guns don’t need nerds. The people complaining need to just accept the fact that these aren’t welfare type weapons

5 RepliesOnly people who complain are the jealous lazy type. It's an easy achievable weapon to acquire that's why so many people have it, but some people can't be bothered and moan instead. Every decent weapon released right from the beginning of the Destiny franchise has been nerfed because of the lazy ass entitled little kids who cry nerf instead of getting off their lazy asses and acquire said weapon. Bungie should grow some balls and ban anyone from these forums who cry nerf and spoil everyone's fun.

2 RepliesThis guy is the only one on here who isn’t insane. Coming from someone with not forgotten, you are on point. I got the not forgotten using ace of spades. I continue to use ace over it too. These guns aren’t that good. (Yes situationally they can be frustrating to play against) nobody these days can understand the other team is just better.

I'm currently grinding lunas on a different account. I almost exclusively see lunas and NF as I'm approaching 2100. I'm using nature of the beast or west of sunfall and still having success. Luna/NF doesnt make you suddenly good, nor is it uncounterable.
