Hello all,
We've recently updated the blog with the "State of Destiny 2" article. This details some upcoming changes to Destiny 2, and also states goals we have moving forward not only for the game, but our communication surrounding it.
We're actively monitoring for feedback. Let us know your thoughts. I'll be collecting posts and community feedback to pass along to the development team. Moving forward, we're looking to have more conversations like this.
(Update - 6 PM PST)
Hey again all,
We've also uploaded a Podcast to iTunes and Android with commentary from Luke Smith and Mark Noseworthy. If you've given a listen, let us know what you think.
Cheers,

How ate you convincing these people you actually listening when you havent responded to not ONE person in your post?
-
As a gamer,I've honestly never considered myself hardcore but not casual by any means However, I hated D1.Within 1 month, I was bored.I like D2 alot,it has kept me going forward with so far, no lack of interest to keep playing. I like the 4v4 but I agree that we want to select the crucible type we want and add more modes ridiculous that there's so few.I will say that I certainly see crucible as very bland and boring Raids,NF, I love. Its made for clans and friends. Do need a lot more weapons and armor tho.
-
1 Reply(real talk) This crap is getting old. Why in the world would they release D2 like it did... I mean this enviorment is a carbon coppy of the 2014 D1 release...and they said a lot of the same stuff about their faults then too... If you have to apologize for your short comings year after year maybe instead you should quit being game devs and go work for Walmart. At least then it's expected when you mess something up.
-
So you're basically putting in a bunch of stuff that should have been in the game at launch while simultaneously failing to address a number of concerns (such as Mods being consumable rather than interchangeable). Hope you're not planning on having a big ol' circle jerk Bungie 'cause this is nothing to celebrate. You're not doing us some giant favor just by attempting to bring what should be a AAA game up to par.
-
Keep in mind, just like in rise of iron, you don't get access to a lot of the games content if you don't own the latest dlc expansion. So basically Bungie is saying again that if you want to experience all of these promised changes that were suppose to be in the game at launch, you must pay for it.
-
I was hopeful when I heard they were making a blog post to address community concerns, but after reading I felt that sinking disappointment that I've grown to associate with how Bungie responds to the community. I'm sure you've all read it a thousand times by now; they don't actually listen, they placate us when the news reports on them, and most of all they refuse to apologize when the lie to us. I honestly feel like I'm in a relationship with a mentally abusive partner when it comes to Bungie and D2. Overall, what I got from the update was that they're going to allow us to purchase items, give us a re-rollable perk for some weapons (but we have no idea how good or bad these are). Something that was available from the outset of D1 that they removed. They haven't even commented on the major problems with the game, some of which are as follows: Lack of decent matchmaking for nightfall. I literally fell asleep waiting last night. And today, I had to wait 20 mins three times in a row just to start the nightfall on my secondary because I kept failing with the people I was matched with. Regular nightfall isn't a difficult activity, it shouldn't have this style of matchmaking to it..it isn't fun to wait that long to play three strikes. And this has been brought up before and Bungie hasn't addressed it. In-game text chat on PC, and the availability of social features in general. Will we still be unable to have regional chat? I understand the desire to keep people from being harassed, but when that locks out the majority of your customers from playing content in the game without using third party resources then this is a seriously major bad design decision. Speaking of third party resources; will I still need to use third party websites to organize a raid? This has been a giant concern since year one and Bungie has been silent on it the entire time. They say that they're willing to communicate, but how can I honestly trust Bungie when they say they're going to communicate and there has been a concern for three years that they haven't addressed? Lack of ability to choose what crucible mode you want to play. I'm especially upset about this as I've only gotten to play countdown 3 times since launch, and it's all I want to play. I know it was available in either trials or iron banner a couple of weeks ago, but I was out of country at this time. I understand not wanting to segregate the community but this just makes me not want to play crucible at all. What type of re-rollable stats are there in the Mastercrafted weapons? If they're all things like "improved aim assist by 0.01%" then I don't care. I want something meaningful and exciting that I can apply to the weapon. Like an Icebreaker Perk that I can apply to snipers, but I get a sinking feeling we're going to get the lackluster perks that D2 has been all about so far. Are we still only getting engrams and tokens from strikes? There was no mention of event specific loot. I know they mentioned that the update to provide a reason to continue playing is coming in January, but they didn't say what is going to keep us playing. And like I said earlier, my trust of Bungie is non-existent at this point. They haven't given any details of how they're going to make it meaningful, and that scares me. How much stronger are they making exotics? IMO they all under perform as "exotics" so what do they consider performing well? Will all of them get an overhaul, or just the crappiest of crap? No addressing their unwillingness to balance PvP separate from PvE. This is literally what's ruining the game and they refuse to fix it. Ability cool-downs being too slow. At least one more super during PvP, and two more during PvE would be such a great change Community desire to return to the Primary, Special, Heavy configuration.

Edited by THUNDERCHILD: 12/1/2017 2:07:24 AMThe amount of bad decisions made in the development of this game is staggering. Sometimes good people are elevated to positions they shouldn't have. Now, i'm not saying Luke smith should be fired, that would be cruel, but perhaps you can find something else for him to do? Maybe instead of ruining games he could be in charge of changing the burned out lightbulbs and replacing empty toiletpaper rolls? Anything would be okay as long as he is kept away from decision making and speaking out loud. Thanks

I listened to the podcast, twice. And their mistakes/excuses wouldve worked in Destiny 1, not for Destiny 2.. They knew ahead of time they were going to take some heat. If they have players of every bucket type in their studio, then they had to have known just how empty of a game they were releasing.. Yes. it's a step in the right direction. Adding more things to collect is good for some people.. but let's face it none of those.things fix the core issue with the game. It's not fun anymore. They've taken so many unique things out of the game. ESPECIALLY on the crucible side. What a watered down crap show that has become 😯. I don't think the competitive side of the community (pvp) will stick around long enough until ranked gameplay.. face it most of them quit playing because they're losing viwership and sub count because no one finds crucible fun to watch.. It's dull. I used to log in every weekend and play trials religiously. Now? I don't even look forward to it or even play it.. peek a boo team shoot a lane.. o joy.. so much skill.. so much fun..(sarcasm) Like I've said these "fixes" are only for the bungie white knights.. unless they overhaul the endgame and PvP. The game is going to drowm if it already hasnt. I don't think they'll be able to fix the core problem (fun factor, and replayability). One: I think they are too stubborn to make crucible changes that are needed/wanted two: I don't think they'd be able to do it fast enough even if they are willing to adjust things. But I could be wrong. Maybe they'll blow me out of the water with this sandbox update.. 😑

2 RepliesMost of all stop catering to the casual. Make an awesome game first then they won’t be casual. Period. Always Have a hard mode and easy mode. The Gaul fight was so weak compared to the gravity of what he did and how awesome of a character he was. The old weapon system needs to return. It’s more exciting. Two snipers having a snipe off. 1v3 big plays. And most of all being able to defend urself when another has power ammo and not being killed because your helpless without. The legend himself has a good video about it. It’s all true. Twitch is suffering because of it. Increase the skill gap. Warlock is unplayable to me without blink because the glide is terrible. Movement needs to return to destiny 1 styles except for the Titan, the momentum and speed from the skate was to much. Random rolls should return. Unless masterclass is good. Strike specific loot. Gear re skins needs to stop. Random rolls on gear. About a 50 second grenade recharge. 40 sec max with two mods. I’ve always been a advocate of dropping special ammo. Random intervals on map. A move over pickup and not a sit at the box and hold a button to acquire. Also being Able to recover a enemy’s ammo after death. Creates map movement. Instant grenade charges on map. Move over them to charge. At random intervals in random locations.

During the server maintenance I decided to play D1. All I have to say is WOW! The game has so much depth. I was looking at my armor stats, weapon stats, subclass options, cool rolls on vendor guns and armor, exciting exotics, sparrow and ship kiosks, bounties, NF bounties, arc burn on NF and heroic strikes, etc. Then, I thought to myself who came up with the idea to remove all of this stuff from D2?
-
Who cares about these changes? This is all fluff. Bring back random rolls, increase the skill gap with in air accuracy, and make PvP fun again. Check my time bungie, 5k~ hours logged and I'm not playing D2 at all. Come on.

8 RepliesI figure I should express my thoughts since I've been playing since early D1 and have stopped playing D2 almost completely. I would consider myself somewhere between hardcore and casual. I've completed all the high end / end game activities for the most part, but am not the top tier of anything or anyone. I hope that something greater comes out of this, for the Destiny community's sake, and for Bungie's (In that order). The reason people are so upset about D2 is because we love Destiny, or loved it, for some. I have read your blog post, here is my response. This is probably somewhat disjointed, and I'm honestly not sure how far I'm going to get before I get too angry or just keep thinking that no one is going to read this and I'm wasting my time. (EDIT - I've wasted too much time writing this. Here's my semi-coherent post.) If you sense disrespect in my words, it is because you (Bungie) does not deserve any respect at this point. You are being treated with the same respect you give to your customers. I realize how difficult it must be to be berated with hate mail / posts and people calling the work you have been doing for years trash. But unfortunately, you have no one else to blame but yourselves. You either don't communicate with your customers, or as we found out recently, you lie to us. Then, your fix is (or fixes are) complete garbage. Bungie needs to do some firing and hiring of new blood. You need people that think completely different than the people you have right now. I realize that you are trying to make money, as that is the ultimate goal. Do you realize that after what you have done to your own franchise, none of us are going to pre-order or possibly not even buy your next game? Let alone pre-purchasing expansions or special editions, etc... It doesn't matter if it's D3 or a new IP. Your reputation is gone. You have years of work to do, and you're going to have to completely overhaul your game (and attitude) and give stuff away (DLC or maps or something) to even have a chance to somewhat repair your reputation. You don't have the guts to just admit you are wrong. Your arrogance is disgraceful. You have been on your soap box trying desperately to convince everyone that you are right, and we'll enjoy what you've created / changed / done. Some part of you must know at this point how sorely wrong you are. If you only had it in you to admit it. It would go a long way for many people. It is time you realized that fixing a problem doesn't always mean going complete reversal or to the opposite extreme. You also need to realize that removing things from your game is neither an improvement nor an upgrade. How someone thought removing custom games or selecting the PvP game type was a good idea is beyond me. Anyone that thought that was a good idea clearly doesn't deserve a job. I also remember a video as D2 was coming out where 2 Bungie employees were explaining why you changed sub-classes from having choice in creating builds to the current method of have only 2 cookie-cut selections. In different words, one of your employees said that your customers were too stupid to make good build decisions themselves. God forbid they ask their friends, Google it, look on Reddit, look on the Bungie forums, or look at other players builds in-game. You could at least have default builds and then custom builds for those of us that are smarter than that moron in your video and can actually make decisions for ourselves. By doing this, you have also removed the ability to make odd builds that are only effective in specific situations. That was fun and challenging in the right circumstances. I am a titan at heart, and at first liked the subtle hunter nerfs in D1, or at least poked fun at my hunter friends. But at this point, you just hate one of the classes you created. Please realize you can push people to play other classes / sub-classes by making others better. You don't have to kill abilities / skills / sub-classes and subtract until people just don't want to play them anymore. TITAN CLAN!!!!!!! PvP is garbage as is. Between the 4v4, the maps, the spawning, weapon selection, the low TtK, and the team shooting, you have decided to engineer a completely different PvP experience, my guess is to make people that suck at PvP feel good. You simultaneously lowered the maximum skill bar, and raised the minimum skill bar, making most everyone feel mediocre. My KDR is usually around 1.1 to 1.3, so I am no superstar, but I'm usually happy if I go positive. Every now and then I'd have a great game. That happens so much less now. I have friends and a brother that are much better at shooters (and Destiny) than I am. Most of them have KDRs near mine now (or lower). Great players aren't able to do great anymore, or at least much less so. You removed kills from the game because snowflakes would much rather see that they got 4 defeats than 1 kill and 3 assists. This is life. Pandering to those lowest common denominators is only going to push skilled and dedicated players to other games. Once that happens, the casuals are going to follow. You're going to try to implement ranked PvP before you even discuss fixing PvP? What is wrong with you? Are you going to show kills in ranked PvP, or is that too harsh for all the little snowflakes even in a ranked match? Some Quick Notes Remove 4v4 Crucible, Bring back 3v3 and 6v6 Crucible Bring back Match Type Selection (Fire whoever removed this.) Bring back Custom Games (Fire whoever removed this.) Bring back difficult to obtain / rare loot from strikes / raids / Trails. (Not everyone should have every piece of armor or weaponry.) Make exotics feel exotic again. (And remove your newly added exotic exchange so everyone doesn't have everything available within a few weeks.) Bring back random gun rolls, or at least one random perk, or maybe 3-5 set rolls per weapon. (There is no excitement when looting anymore at all.) Heavy weapons and ammo needs to be tweaked. Gun balance and variety. (There are like 4 guns used is PvP.) Match high skilled players against each other. (Not exclusively, but make carries much more difficult. People need to work for their own rewards.) Increase vault space (Greatly). Balance Grenades / Class Abilities. Make Mobility & Resilience matter. (More so.) Remove one use shaders. When you change something in game, explain why you changed it. And do not lie, or be politicians about it. Be honest. I know it is difficult, but if you don't, Bungie is over. We're done with your bullshit. I could just keep going. But it's just not worth my time. I honestly hope Bungie proves me, and most of these posters wrong. I loved D1, but D2 is just soulless. I know D1 vanilla wasn't the best, but it's like you took what you learned from D1 and it's expansions and threw it all out the window to start over with a similar product built for the masses. Lastly, spend less on the production of your commercials, or at very least with the frequency you play them. You need to target your audience, not throw 400 darts at a dartboard and exclaim, "Bullseye!" because one of those darts hit your target. Some of that money could have been spent on development, game testers (THAT YOU LISTEN TO), or maybe a legitimate community presence. Bungie needs to be forced to do the Cersei Lannister walk of shame. Shame on Bungie
-
Notice how they're silent again. It's not a coincidence that the DLC is coming out next week and that's when they chose to give us more communication *lies And fluff*. They don't care about anything other than squeezing more money out of us. Wake up people.

1 ReplyDestiny 2 is not fun. I don’t care what you do at this point because I’m out. Peace

Could we please get machine guns back? I’m sure I’m not the only one who misses thunderlord or jolder’s or super good advice. I don’t know why they were removed but I feel that was a mistake to remove them. I’m bringing this up because it’s obvious that others have brought up the more important issues and if you guys actually monitor this then me reiterating a lot of the same won’t do much.

3 RepliesI've been playing since day 1 of d1 and to be honest, right now I'd really just rather play D1. I don't understand why you took so much away that was working, and fun, from that game to give us this. I don't even play anymore even though I am buying the dlc, to try btw, but I don't expect it to pull me back in. There is ZERO reason to farm anything in this game. No activities to complete weekly, besides raid, which I haven't done yet because, why? I love the idea of destiny 2, the reason of destiny 2, but that's where the creativity and effort to bring us something BETTER than D1 stops. All weapons should have reasons to obtain them, eg different perks or way to change them......Why make each one the same? Also reskinned weapons and exotics from D1? Come on with all the talented people there we should have not had to worry about the weapon/armor systems in D2. Please at least regress back to D1 style in that regard. Also public events are fun and all and are supposed to be just something that happens while out patrolling. It feels like D2s main focus. To much emphasis on it, I feel. Add some more activities like archon forge and PoE. Give us reasons to play every week. Right now nothing is warranting me to come back and play after reset. Raid lairs sound like we didn't feel like making new content but gotta give them something. I'll give it a shot but that statement is probably right. I just feel like this game could have been all D1 became and more with no ceiling on improvements and new content that people couldn't wait for like TTK. But it's like you started with D1 day 1 vision only that was better than this. Please fix your game. A sequel is supposed to be better by a long shot than its predecessor. There is still time and a community hoping you get it together and give us the game that will amazingly replayable and have us all wondering what's next hoping for this and that. Did you know my whole clan has quit. Not coming back.!! Now I have to find another group of people start new if I even do it. I've been playing with those guys in my clan since day 1 also. I don't know what to even say to add besides the things mentioned above because I'm not a programmer. Those things were there last game so thought they could be implemented. Just really need to fix the State of Destiny. Or I, for one, won't be investing in the game further.

Edited by Spyder_Z_Prime: 12/2/2017 1:01:55 AMReally weird how quick this went downward on the trending section to be replaced with the questions Bungie side stepped. 🤔 Well I hope they’re actually listening instead of just saying they are... They seem to be dancing around the core gameplay issues... Because we’re coming into year 4 after having lost a LOT of what we liked in D1 with this reboot that was advertised as a sequel and peeps are pissed. 🤬 I’m disappointed... But not surprised. 😏 Edit: PS. I hope they change gun sounds... Cause, for example, Origin Story, and almost all the Vanguard weapons really, sounds like a metal trashcan being repeatedly hit with a sock of loose pennies. 😒 PSS. In all seriousness and I’m not being sarcastic, I also hope Cosmo and his new kiddo are doing well. Congrats to him and his family! 🙂
-
Are there ANY holiday plans for December like there was in D1? I can understand that it is nothing compared to the other issues being discussed, but a simple yes or no on if there will be something or not would be nice.
-
I might be the only one but i love the token system, always thought it gave more depth to game. Its a good start, keep the updates coming. Cant wait to see what you implement in the new year. 😍

1 ReplyPolish a Terd it's still shit unfortunately. I am literally more broken hearted from the state of D2 and how it turned out then I have ever been about a game before. It's sad D1 was all I played for the entire life span until D2 dropped. Now I haven't ran a nightfall in weeks never even attempted the last Iron Banner. Sad what this game has become.

The Main issue with the vault is the lack of organization. It is hard to get to either armor or weapons, and it is hard to find a specific item. Some people may say the issue is space, but even if they add more space it will still be just as hard to find anything My Solution First split the weapons, armor, and customizations in different tabs. This would not effect how much you could store of each type. It would only be for easier access. Tabs should have these sorters Alphabetical: allows you to find duplicates Power: allows you to find your weakest weapons to get rid of or high power ones you have saved for Infusions Weapon Type: sorts your weapons into handcannons, auto rifles, etc... Additional Ideas Favorites: Allow us the ability to find weapons we have marked as favorites so that on default it shows up first. Filters: Basically sorters but doesn't show anything other than what's chosen as the filter. Example: Handcannon filter only show Handcannons Armor Sets: Sorts your armor sets into groups so you can find them easily. add a ability to add all items of that armor set.
Copy and pasted from my forum post because I thought it was relevant
Excuse the typos and incorrect punctuation I'm not an English major. Nor am I a video game developer. So I'll start by saying bungie and all the people who worked hard to make the game beautiful and truly a spectacular work of art from visual standpoint great job. In my opinion leadship should be shuffled because I think the shortcomings of this game are strictly to do with people who lead these teams and made decision to cut content that existed in D1 . With that said let's jump in to some ideas I think should be added for more playability and maybe things that could attempt to rebalance the wep system. 1st. Add the grimore back into the game . And or collectables to find when you explore. At the very least add a codex to the game where I can see a list of all possible scannables. By doing this you allow the player to access the lore you took time to put in also giving them a goal to find and collect all scannables. 2nd. Maybe a solution to the weapon system problem. Make a set of shotguns and snipers that can be used in the energy slots but lock those items from being used in pvp in the energy slots. This will allow pve players to feel more powerful and also your weps you designed would actually get used. This also doesn't disrupt the pvp balance which is the main reason the system in place exist. I believe this is a possible solution that can be implemented more easily then just changing the whole system. But as I stated I'm not a game developer. 3rd. Maybe add some fun random things in like for example in many games similar to destiny there's always a list of random monsters bosses mobs leaders whatever you want to call them that will randomly by chance spawn and at that time your given an opportunity to collect his name on your hunting list. This gives your play spaces more replayability causing players to want to be exploring in your game because maybe they run into a random mob to add to a list of others. You can even make these some what of a bounty style. Reward players Everytime they cross three names off and at the end give an emblem for there efforts. I know this game has many issues but here are some things I'd enjoy seeing.
happy holidays and remember it's just a game and this is just a dream.[/spoiler

Pretty good podcast. I appreciate the way they cleared up the update process and why it can take so long. Though it's still frustrating how they refuse to answer if the xp throttling displaying incorrectly was intentional or not.
