Did anyone actually enjoy the beta?

I personally enjoyed it, but my friends refer to me as the video game evangelist. I have a knack for finding the good in things instead of focusing on the bad. Anyone else out there enjoy the beta? Why or why not? I'd love to discuss rationally. Edit: Thank you everyone for your amazing input and points of view. I'm off to bed. I'll be sure to read through everyone's posts.

Honestly, I don't know. I liked what I saw of the Homecoming mission. It makes me very optimistic about Destiny 2 campaign. I did multiple runs of the Inverted Spire Strike but at the end of the day I only had 3 complete ( from start to finish ) run throughs with it ( I was almost always match made with people who were almost finished with the Strike, the game would either drop me off while they were avoiding the drills or fighting the boss ). It was hard to get a proper feel for the gameplay when you can't run a mission from start to finish. There were a few instances where I would load into the beginning of the Strike but my other teammates would either go AFK or they'd go exploring the lost sector section. I like the Strike in theory, but I can see it becoming a chore to run after and handful of times. Sad to see that AFK'ing is still an issue especially since The Inverted Spire is difficult to solo. Although another player an I were able to 2 man the whole entire thing with no issues. I did not try the Crucible since I have no interest in PVP. I was underwhelmed by performance of most of the weapons. I was appalled at how long it took all my abilities to recharge. Character movement felt off. I was unimpressed by all the Character classes. It was like Bungie removed everything that made Destiny special from the Destiny 2 Beta.

  • Yes, I did. However I mainly played PvP, but for a specific reason. One of the things I hated about D1 was repeating strikes over and over. I would still do it, but I could only do so much before I really got bored. Given that fact, I tried to stay away from the beta strike as much as I could. I played it once or twice and called it good. I would have liked one or two more story missions, and to be able to access them multiple times. That being said, I still would have tried to stay away from the story because, in the end, I'd rather experience the PvE at release day. It would have been a much better experience.

  • Well i wanted to see if the beta was good or not but it was literally unplayable. Redownloaded multiple times and had everything from crashes, major audio lag, no response on weapons and more. And before people say "oh its your connection git gud" i have 100 down 20-30 up and this happened to several of my friends online as well. All of us are on Xbox so im guessing its a xbox problem. I've never had a beta do these kind of shenanigans before so that worries me about launch for D2 so im definitely waiting to get it well into launch to see what happens.

    • I enjoyed playing the mission. I enjoyed derping around Nessus patrol, glitching outside the map and dancing in weird spots. I also enjoyed playing pvp for a while. It kind of got "boring" after some time because of just two maps, but whatever.

    • Yes, very much so. Felt more refined and polished than D1. August is going to be a long month for sure.

    • I hated it the grenade launcher was weak i hate the weapons system ( thankyou pvp crybabies ) supers and abilities took too long to charge power ammo drops are so rare you are reduced to using primary on bosses However having said that i have not canceled my preorder coz the beta was a months old build so hopefully things get better on release day although i wont hold my breath

    • Watered down version of D1 on every level. Only noobs or casuals or those looking to profit off of the gullible-- ie Streamers enjoyed it. The Beta was weak on every level. Movement and gun mechanics being the two areas that draw the most criticism from me. Any true Legend from D1 is questioning the decision D2 appears to be heading. FACT. PS: enjoy your fidget spinners. You see what I'm saying? D2 is the next evolution for kids after they're done with Pokemon.

Not that much. The strike was pretty fun but I could not stand PvP. It was just constant teamshotting, teamshotting, teamshotting, because of the increased cooldowns on supers and abilities.

      • I love D1 and my playing time proves it. I'm meh on D2, if it was going to be the beta then it's a no...but there is so much of the subclasses, gear, and such that we don't know how it adds to that we don't know. the beta was meant to draw in people that don't play the game that felt they'd be too much behind to ever catch up. so who knows what the game that ships will be?

        • This beta sucks!!!! But wait! IGN got to play Destiny 2 and not the people that pre-orderned the game. They paid.

            • if I played it for any more than 30 mins at a time it felt like a job, in a bad way.

            • I tried it but turned it off quite quickly, I looked forward to D1 so much but this is just meh. The fixes I think were needed have not been implemented or even talked about.

            • Hard to say. I don't know if it's because its familiar ground that I came away feeling a little underwhelmed or that it's something with the game changes itself. Could even be the way the beta was presented. I remember playing the first beta thinking intrigue and impressiveness. We couldn't stop playing and enjoyed running around in the patrol area alone. This one felt like the weakest part of the first one. The repetitious grind of one strike in hopes of a drop of note. Don't get me wrong, the gameplay felt tight as ever and the story seems to be a little more fleshed out and engaging. Considering the first one falling short in that area I think that was their focus. That and to show folks how the PvP experience would play out. PvP is not my strong suit nor focus for entertainment so I didn't even try it. This essentially cut the experience in half for me so my play time was quite limited. All in all I'll still be getting it. It's a solid game for what it is and when it launches I'm sure I'll spend quite a bit of time with it like I did the first one. Time will tell if it's as much time as the first one.

            • I liked it and can't wait for Destiny 2. If only I'm not carrying my teammates through the strike again like in the beta.
i know it was a beta, but at least have the dignity to actually pick up your gun and shoot. There wasn't a reason for you to only get 20 kills while I get 150. Leave that crap in D1.
• was quite mixed, felt like ive seen / played most of it before. but i look forward to start from scratch, level and loot, do some activities with friends. even if its d1.5 ill probably put 100-200 hrs atleast into the game. rpg shooters with friends are just really fun to me. wish there were more of this genre. (where are you borderlands 3?? :'( )

              • I can't say that it was totally unenjoyable. The game still gives you that sort of "power trip feel" every now and then, and while severely gutted, the shooting's still relatively intuitive. I also appreciate that the Titans actually look like genuine tank characters now (even if it is just cosmetic). If it wasn't for the atrocious writing, flat music, muddy textures, and focus on PvP over PVE, I'd almost call it an improvement. Still, even if they actually do get everything right in between now and the next two months, it's still just going to be more of the same... which I suppose is what Activision strives for.

              • You seem to be more of the optimistic kind of gamer whereas your friends seem to be the more critical, wary, or pessimistic type of gamer. Aside from that, the beta was fun, but it had its issues.

              • I liked it and I'm looking forward to the new story missions! And it sounds like there are going to be a lot of them, along with side missions, adventures, lost sectors, strikes, the Raid and of course PvP when I feel the need to make em bleed. >:}

                • I really enjoyed it. D1 PvP is awful compared to D2 beta. Everyone refuses to use a -blam!-ing primary in D1 so the beta was a breath of fresh air. Not only was PvP better but the pve was leaps and bounds better than anything D1 has to offer.
