I really hope this isn't true. Grinding for that perfect gun is what made destiny so replayable.

Edited by Hisui: 6/30/2017 9:51:26 PMTo be honest I'm glad its changing to set rolls. I've been playing since year 1 and still don't have a god rolled Eyasluna which is quite frankly very ridiculous. As a matter of fact, the only god rolled legendary weapons I have were vendor bought or gunsmith. This would ONLY be an issue if no other gun is effective at what its meant to do and there happens to be one specific gun that everyone HAS to use in order to compete in pvp...as long as that does not happen, I'm all for it. Thank you Bungie for giving me a (potential) chance to have god rolled weapons at the same time as everyone else.

2 RepliesAfter reading the article and some of the comments, I'm left with one question: Exactly what do Destiny players think the word "balance" means? For all of D1 the go to insult was to tell someone the weapon they were using was OP and they needed to "git gud". Now it looks like a lot of people are going to have to back that up with "real gun skill". Now, if you get killed by the same weapon you're carrying, you'll be forced to take the L and hopefully accept you were out played. I said hopefully.

1 Reply1) This works for exotics ONLY because exotics have very specialized perks that make them unique (Invective regens ammo, Patience and Time makes you invisible, etc). Could they actually come up with enough unique perks, or viable perk combinations to make an arsenal big enough so that you can't acquire every gun in the game within a few weeks? 2) There will be guns that are never used because they will obviously will be lower on the "good gun" food chain. 3) The only way I see this working for RNG and replay value purposes is if these guns also had some sort of customization as well. Example: A grey quality gun is what it is, a green gun is what it is, just a little better. A blue quality gun is even slightly better, they always have the same perks but a blue has an open perk slot that you modify (put a perk in like firefly, rifled barrel, however it works) and you can earn perks as drops or rewards somehow. A purple quality weapon would have maybe 2 open perk slots, so for example all ARI-45 rifles would be the same, same exact 4-5 perks, but 2 open slots for you to add gained perk drops.

It has been proven in the past that grinding for "that gun" has also made the game replayable. Gjallarhorn, Fatebringer, Y1 Praetorian Foil, Icebreaker etc have shown this. There's definitely more to it than meets the eye. I doubt we will simply be able to buy weapons we only need to obtain once. There's a catch somewhere. We might have to go looking for Vanguard weapons yet.

It will never be a MLG game with random perks on guns and armour

1 ReplyThere are two reasons this might actually be a good idea: 1 - Nerfs and buffs are easier to manage and don't have to be for entire weapon archetypes. If everyone is only using one or two guns for a meta (because people will go for those specifically) they can alter that gun without altering similar ones. 2 - People are theorising that Weapon Mods will replace these random perks, so instead of getting 2 random perks that may never help you, it will give you appropriate perks that always help the gun and are relevant, and then YOU can CHOOSE an extra perk you want to apply to the gun with a weapon mod, and improve them how you want to. Admittedly, if the second one isn't happening, this is kinda going to suck. People will be running the same content until they get the one or two guns, then use it most of the time until it gets nerfed, and then they'll switch to whatever content gets them the NEXT best gun.

This is really good news. Basically, Bungie is removing a layer of RNG from weapon drops. To offer a little perspective, in D1, getting a weapon drop is more or less like playing a double slot-machine in Vegas. RNG on top of RNG. It's gambling. It's a pretty common mechanic in RPGs that artificially creates the sense of variety, rarity and "value". So what Bungie is doing, is striping away that second lever pull. All in all, what will either make or break this new approach is how varied and wide the pool of legendary weapons is in D2. We'll have to wait and see.

I'm ok with it.

4 RepliesEdited by henryc1t: 6/30/2017 6:04:56 PMI'm glad about this. Exotics will be Exotics. Legendaries will be Legendaries. We won't have people in the crucible all using the same weapon because the god roll on that certain weapon shines above all the others and fun is completely replaced by bullshit and sweat, filled with absolutely no variety. We've had it horribly in destiny 1 with shit weapon balancing and bungie practically handing people the best weapons on a silver plated. In rise of iron crucible was full of pulse rifles and now it's people running around with OP handcannons with rangefinder, for example the palindrome which you can make it so it has more stability, and more range than the exotic hawk moon, a weapon which has been horribly nerfed and can't compete with the legendary handcannons. All because people are getting these stupid 'god rolls'. Oh, and grinding is not fun, it's boring. Edit: please take this post with a pinch of salt. I had just been thrashed by hand cannons in a rumble game

10 RepliesThis is the third post about this I've seen today. This is a good thing in my opinion. The more RNG that is removed from the game the better this game will be. What makes Destiny good shouldn't be a slot machine mechanic, it should be good because it has quality content that is fun to play even if there was no reward given for playing it.

I think if it is true, it's probably a good idea. I spent 2 years trying to get a good 1000 yard stare. I could list maybe 10 guns that I was searching for a perfect roll for and to be honest this way will even the playing field between time strapped guardians and hardcore players that will grind 60 hrs for one gun. When I look back at my time played destiny my rng just sucked. It would be nice to grind a strike for 20hrs and get that imago loop I have been praying for.

Edited by RPColten: 6/30/2017 9:11:14 PMLook at it this way. Less focus on grinding for the gear means you can play more of the content you want rather than the content that "item A" drops from with a 5% chance and hopefully with the 1-in-30 perk combination. We don't even have all the information about loot drops and the weapon system, so for all we know is there could be multiple versions of the same weapon but with different perk sets. Example: A "Nadir-53J" could have perks geared for stability/handling while a "Nadir-51G" could be built for range and precision. The grinding aspect could potentially still be a viability, but the dynamic nature could be split among separate unique items. This is all just speculation though.
-
It might help them actually balance the game though. Which they've struggled to do all these years
-
If they removed such a time sink in the game, they must be fairly confident in the content the game offers. Also a change like that does make balancing the weapon pool much easier.
-
2 RepliesPeople generally want the same perks on all weapons as it is now, so this won't be a big deal. Plus, nobody's really played it yet to see how the game will actually work.
-
7 RepliesI don't see the problem. Raid weapons were like this, with the exception of kingsfall.
-
Sounds like they made it more simple to find the weapon that suits your style.

R.I.P. I loved grinding for the perfect gun. I was so happy when I got my triple tap, casket mag, spray and play PvE powerhouse LDR roll. I don't think Bungie is going to put all the good perks on one gun, so that aspect is disappointing. I'm trying hard not to rant right now, so I'm going to think it over.
-
8 RepliesWhy is nobody talking about the fact that they adding mod slots to weapons. So no random stats but you will grind for mods that enhance weapons. So still perks...
-
4 Replies"How can my second, third, and tenth Better Devils hand cannon be interesting? That's a question we should be asking and answering as quickly as we can. We have ideas. While I would like nothing more than to share those ideas with you, we're up against [a deadline]. I don't know if they'll make it for our Sept. 6 [release] date. But we have some ideas that we're pretty excited about." - Luke Smith TLDR: "Basically we have nothing, but we don't want to look bad" Another half assed thing for D2.

Bwahahahaha! Every announcement makes me ask: "Why do I want or need this game?" I have yet to find a convincing reason. Destiny 2 is a PvP game. Ya'll can't deny that now.
