Sound off in the comments, as I would like to see what the community thinks about this.
For me, ToC has ruined any excitement I used to get out of getting an Exotic drop. After TTK, Exotics stopped feeling rare and elusive and they now just feel like glorified legendaries. I understand that ToC was made to counter frustrating RNG, and I'm not defending the loot system in year 1. But if you think about it, Exotics aren't really hard to get even if you take ToC out of the game.
Let's think here.
You can get Exotics from Nightfalls, Raid encounters/chests, the Trials Lighthouse chest, Legendary engrams, Xur, and Exotic quests. I probably forgot some but you get my point.
Edit: I didn't get a chance to finish the post since I had to go to class, so I'll finish this.
If we did not have ToC, then Exotics would feel more Exotic, but they also wouldn't be unreasonably elusive.
Edit 2: I'm not saying we should go back to the loot system in year 1, I'm saying we should get rid of ToC.
Edit 3: nigel_the_mole actually proposed a pretty good idea. He said this:
Well, there are two kinds of exotics:
1. Those that only come from 1 source (eq, a quest line, or raid drop), and,
2. Exotics that can drop from many sources (e.g., chests, RNG, 3ofC, Xur, etc).
I'll agree that 3ofC had devalued the second pool. There were very few, if any, I got originally from 3ofC. (Had all the Exotics prior to 3ofC release, and can only specifically recall 1 of the newer ones from 3ofC. Possibly a few more, but not many.)
3ofCs basically was first a road to max light, then a shard factory, then a "why even bother."
But group 1 I actively pursued.
I'd say, for D2, I'd like to see the first group be much bigger.
More quest Exotics. More "achievement" Exotics.
Fewer in the second group.
I realize this makes for essentially two classes of exotics (the "hard" ones vs the "easy" ones), but this division already exists. But it allows casual players to get some without having to do specific efforts, and the better stuff to be a bit more effort to achieve.
TL;DR - more exotics from quests or specific points in raids.
Why if you don't like them don't use them also lets not forget how bungie's nerfs have made many exotics feel legendary
-
the thing is though some people do get exotics easily but some don't, outside of the ones you get from quests i haven't had many exotic drops from mission rewards since TTK, and i used to do nightfalls and raids weekly (though i haven't been playing that much since RoI came out) so without 3oC i would have been screwed and even with 3oC it seems to me that there is a much higher chance of getting exotics you already have over new ones so i use them more for shards and light level than actually farming for new exotics

Don't use them then you don't have the buy them

9 RepliesEdited by XmajorPUFFEN74X: 4/20/2017 1:40:11 PMThe only way i would agree with this is if they actually increased the drop rates for exotics. I DO NOT WANT TO SEE YR1 ELITISM COME BACK AGAIN. The removal of 3oC, with out some sort of fix to exotic drops, would only bring back this kind of shitty attitude.

2 RepliesJust don't use them, if you don't l like them.

Are we really starting this special snowflake shit again?

Exotics suck. Has nothing to do with 3oC

Edited by SpyderHunt: 4/20/2017 3:32:05 PMI feel like 3OC were necessary for this Destiny. The feeling of getting an exotic back then was great, but I like that everyone has more of a chance of getting these weapons, it makes crucible matches unfair when only a select few have the rarest of exotics I can agree with 3OC being taken out if there's more strikes or raids or quests that offer exotics Or even make every exotic only obtainable from quests that way every can get them but they have to work for it

1 ReplyThey have never been that rare or exciting. In year 1 most were powerful, but that has all changed. They are now unique, but not powerful. The main barrier to getting them was it required a fireteam to get most of them due to where the dropped. Three of coins was added to appease the casual and solo guardians that had very few because you can't raid, nightfall, or trials by yourself. I really don't mind them in the game. If you have a problem with them, easy, don't fuking buy them shitbird.
-
Don't use them then. Solves your problem. No one forces you to use them. The problem is all the nerfing that has happened. That's why exotics are junk.
-
Removing 3 of coins is a stupid idea. I'm assuming u mainly play destiny and that would give u a reason to continue playing. Alot of gamers dont have time to run everything every week to get nothing.
For me, ToC has ruined any excitement I used to get out of getting an Exotic drop.
I dunno' man, I was pretty excited when I picked up 30some exotics on the first day 3oC were available. Thank you Draksis for dying so easy. In all seriousness, 3oC served an important purpose in Destiny and that was fixing Bungie's crap ass RNG. Bungie also made another fix to RNG and that was scrapping it entirely for set loot from quests. Personally, I appreciate the latter more than the former. Set loot does mean that all the players will end up with the same exotic gear but it also means no Guardian will be shut out from fun gear by random chance.

A lot of gamers are saying " then don't use them" that's not the issue IMO. It's knowing making more consumables, materials etc to obtain the same weapons really sever no purpose in this game. Quest, bounties etc were created for a purpose and to use consumables to replace that doesn't do anything for this game. A lot of the gamers are always asking Bungie to make things easier in this game because they feel they are " entitled " to have everything in this game. The game wasn't made for everyone to have everything there was ever created and complaning about it has only made this company look for the easiest ways to deal with it instead of keeping with the concept of the game. It's onething that is really annoying because no one really cares. It's just, give me my loot!

I never thought about this. Nice idea.

I enjoyed the rarity of getting exotics in Y1 much more than how its been since TTK. I didn't get Gjallarhorn until March of year 1 so I understand everyone's frustrations but, the chase was fun. Kept me playing. Now, I have everything in the game except the last few raid exotics that I'll probably get over the next couple of days. Its tough because I know Bungie is concerned about casuals, but to be honest, I play other games casually and I don't expect to get everything because I don't put the time in. I don't really understand the mindset that some people have that everything should be easy. I'm fine with 3ofCoins being gone. I hope Bungie balances D2 and I hope they put things in the game that separates the more dedicated players from the casuals.
-
Totally agree with everything you said but unfortunately exotics aren't really exotics anymore. All the nerfs destroyed the majority of exotics. I'd rather get legendaries. Just my two cents worth.
-
I mentioned this before but I think a good idea would be for 3oC to be a reward from a monthly event. For example, you complete an iron banner match and get a random drop of 3oC, you hit certain ranks for iron banner and get guaranteed 3oC, and/or you can buy 3oC from an iron banner vendor at rank 5 for legendary marks(or another currency). Once iron banner(or whatever monthly event it is) is over, your 3oC expire and/or there's a limit of how many 3oC you can hold at a time. Obviously with some of these changes, you might have to adjust the success rate of 3oC.

8 RepliesHow exactly does one get exotics from strikes?
-
I doubt D2s reward system will be the same and it probably will be better. For D1, I doubt they'd bother at this stage to do anything to them, 3oC can stay, they can go, I and probably most people have every exotic they could help us get. I didn't like their implementation to start with, it did make getting an exotic too easy, and I'm sure they've learned from it for D2 where it'll matter more. I used 3oC to get most of my post-TTK exotic armour, from the Cryptarch. Literally bought a lot of it, just from the engrams they sell. I'd pop 1-3 3oC then buy an armour engram or a couple depending (helmets cost a lot), often netted an exotic armour piece. Never had the same result from weapons but loot was easy to get I didn't really bother and they were pricey, maybe it would have worked the same way. Then they did some patching to 3oC and it didn't happen again but by then that also didn't matter.

Utterly ruined exotics and allowed bungo to flood us with useless ones. There would have been more than enough chances at exotics if they had brought forward VoG and crota to year 2 along with nightfalls and Trials gold tier.
-
Agreed
-
I don't care, exotics drops never felt special in the first place.
-
Jumping the gun a little here? Just a tad? lol
-
1 ReplyI agree. Now exotics are common. There is no joy in getting an engram.

Take them away please!
