Until last night I was you, so I get it. I've never been much of a raider and I was always concerned that my low light, lack of good gear or experience would hold the team back. But something happened last night that changed my mind. Story time:
Necrocasm was the gun I was most excited for with age of triumph and I was super disappointed that it was locked behind the 390 CE raid. Last night I put a post up on lfg explaining that I was a novice raider but I was really willing to listen and learn from others. Got picked up surprisingly quick by an experienced raider that was willing to show me the ropes. StillI was still super nervous loading in.
I straight up explained to everyone that I'm not the best raider and that I'd really appreciate someone explaining the best strategy for each encounter. I already knew how they worked from YouTube and the one yr1 normal run I had done, but I thought it was worth stating as I was rust as hell.
Thing is I feel like it made the team better. Everyone was super understanding and the fact that the strategy was explained before each encounter made sure everyone knew their roles and what to do. Before each encounter we were all on the same page and the run went by really smoothly. Sure we wiped a couple of times but we stopped and assessed where we went wrong each time, thus we got better as a team as we went.
Soon enough we had cleared all the challenge modes and downed crota. All in all it was one of the funniest experiences I have had playing destiny and as we all exchanged friend requests and the team broke up I found myself wondering - why did I wait this long to do this.
Even now I'm not really sure why I feel so compelled to write this giant post. But for anyone on the fence that reads this get in there and give it a crack. Sure you may not get a great group first go, but when you do it's so worth it. At the very least your gaining experience along the way. Its worth it!!!!
Walks off to shoot sh1t with my shiny new necrocasm.
TLDR: bite the bullet, dive in, its so rewarding. I'm kicking myself for not doing it sooner.
EDIT 1: not really sure why I thought necrocasm wasn't going to be tied to the raid. I just figure it was going to be more of a yr3 gjhallarhorn/ thorn like quest. It's worth the effort to get it though.
EDIT 2: WooHoo!!!! Just cleared WoTM for the first time and got genesis chain. Exploding auto rifles everywhere!!!!!

61 RepliesThe only problems i'm having in getting a team together is being a Crota raid virgin ( i've only done the VoG raid ) and my age. One guy actually asked me how old i was ( i just turned 52 on St. Patricks day ) and told me i was too old to be playing videogames.

1 ReplyNo offense but how did you not know necrochasm was going to involve a crota raid? It was the year 1 raid exotic for crota, its bad enough the quest takes no effort to complete, would've been nice to have to actually wait a while before I got a year 3 version of crux to drop but instead it's just handed to you.(sorry about mini rant I just hate the year 3 exotic quests besides outbreak prime because they take like 2 hrs to do at most)

4 RepliesI still can't raid because I have no friends...

Good for you bro I'm happy to hear there are good people around still. RAID ON BROTHER!!!

4 Replies372 Light Hunter Hmu for raids because I want to get above 390 and the nice ass loot Msg ArcaneTurnip214 my dudes I dont care if youre experienced or not I just need a fireteam
-
4 Repliesnecrocasm..? wait, so you don't need eidolon, and the crux anymore?
-
Only reason I went into crota, even with my low light, was cause I know what to do (apart from challenge)!
-
It helps that in Crota's End you can be absolute dead weight and not affect the team much except for trying to do the Ir Yut challenge.
-
Destiny is wildly flawed but the satisfaction of a raid completion is unmatched.

Looking for one person 390+ for wrath of the machine fist boss add me KnogatilloJr

I'm not hesitant I either forget or something else comes up I can't find a team or I am playing something else

1 ReplyHappy that you had a good experience OP. I tried making a fire team two days ago, noting that I was inexperienced and got nothing but rude behavior the whole time. I'm glad that someone else was able to have a good experience

2 RepliesI just tried and this guy sent me a friend request. I tried to join and it didn't work. So I messaged him and it said I couldn't because of his privacy settings. So I messaged him on the destiny app. He didn't respond so I tried to join and it finally works and then I got kicked. He then replied on the app with "nope".

6 RepliesMy clan did the raid last night with a Crota Virgin, had a few wipes along the way but it all was totally manageable and got the whole thing with both Challenges done in under 2 hrs. Slow and easy, everything legit and just taking the time to explain it. The Loot was Epic! My haul was the following: Fang of Ir Yut Adept Word of Crota Adept Word of Crota regular Warlock Helmet, Gloves, Boots and Bond along with 3 Ornaments.

You had a positive experience because unlike many others, you were honest. It is way better to be upfront if you are new to raids. People will be much more understanding and willing too help if you just admit you don't have much experience. Also it helps if you follow directions if you don't know what to do. A couple of times this week I was with a few guys that decided to do whatever they wanted. Needless to say we failed challenge many times.

6 RepliesWhere are the PS4 VoG sherpa's? I have tons of Raid completions but I did VoG like twice over two years ago (due to my job at the time). I'm obviously very rusty, but have everything I need. I pretty much need a refresher as we go, I can handle the not dying part on my own. lol
-
1 ReplyI agree 100%! I got in a raid team yesterday, much like yourself I was only interested in completing the raid for the necrochasim. The raid leader was actually a Sherpa helping people who made a post on here. I told him I didn't care about the challenges and just wanted to complete it. Another guy in the group agreed with me. The raid leader was like "oh no! We're doing the challenges " lol Anyways it took a few wipes but learned each time and everyone had an assignment. And bam we finished it and got the challenges!!!
