Weekly update -the reset

While some may like this approach. I am completely against it for the following reasons. The hunt for loot has now been made pointless. Whether it be the raids or questlines. Eververse is officially dead. No one should buy anything that cannot be used for the same Guardian. The concept of the original plan of creating an adventure for 10 years with your Guardian died today. I'm very disappointed this is the path Bungie has decided to take. Essentially chopping up the adventure into resets, instead of building on to it. Deleting all our hardwork and gains. Sad day for grinders and collectors.....and my bank account

  • This was the path I was hoping they'd take. Letting us keep our characters, but not the gear. Although this is a blow to collectors, it keeps the Foundational promise that this is a persistent world, and that we'd get to keep our characters. While giving Bungie maneuvering room to make the sweeping changes this game needs going forwards. As well as creating an environment where new players will feel welcome and not hopelessly disadvantaged. I think this was the best option available to them. To collectors, I'm sorry. But look forward to all the new toys you'll get to play with....

    • Although I have plenty to say about the topic, I'll just say this rwg. Don't let the cosmetic and power grind distract from the greatest thing you achieved in destiny, the friends you made and battled tirelessly with. They will always be there and not always with destiny.

      • That whole 10-year thing was never directly referring to Destiny. It only means that Bungie is in a 10-year-deal with Activision. While I hope that Destiny continues for 10 years, it has never been said directly, nor indirectly.

I think the reset is good, but I do hope that we get to keep our grimiore score becuase that more than anything shows how much a person has played and accomplished in the game, way more than any veteran emblem or shader could.

        • It's adorable how much you care. Your memories of Destiny will last forever. Think of this like owning a dog. You invested time, money, care etc. watched it grow up and old. You did everything you can possibly do with it for years, but like all things, it dies. Destiny 2 will be your new beautiful irresistible puppy. You will always cherish that first dog, but exciting new adventures await you with the new one :)

          • Was thinking the same, and makes you worry for the future of Destiny. Destiny 2 will be that shiny new exiting game at first to draw everybody in,but what will happen few months in? Its still the same company, with the same devs that couldnt turn Destiny1around. Will they change there ways, who knows , but vanilla is in its final stage and for me it leaves a bitter taste in my mouth. Its hard to keep faith in a company that only sees this as a bussiness and not more as a journey towards something more. People keep saying ,this is how the gaming world is these days, thats pretty sad if you think about it, nothing will stand out anymore. I feel the same like you do, they couldnt come up with something more original then just shut the door in our faces, looking back it isnt even a real suprise. Cheers.

Whether it be the raids or questlines.
Wasn't it pointless from the start? New gear comes out each expansion which we all flock to, only to see it nerfed into uselessness.
Eververse is officially dead. No one should buy anything that cannot be used for the same Guardian.
While I agree that paid items should transfer, let this be a lesson. No one should have had to pay more than $20 to get everything EV had to offer. This random grab bag shit has got to stop. People spending $100s of dollars to get a ghost Ghost or Flaming Skull (while good for profits) is unethical, and people bought into it (literally) hook, line, and sinker. Maybe this'll open people's eyes.
The concept of the original plan of creating an adventure for 10 years with your Guardian died today. I'm very disappointed this is the path Bungie has decided to take. Essentially chopping up the adventure into resets, instead of building on to it.
1. This game needed a reboot. They needed this opportunity to regroup to do all the things they've wanted to do with it and all the things we want from it. Continuing on with this iteration is only holding everything back. 2. You can't say it's officially dead. Let's see how they handle future expansions and sequels before we declare the dream of a WoW type franchise dead.

            • Everything, but not letting all stuff behind would have been disappointing...it's not like we weren't playing the same things with the same guns and its tons of reskins and copy and pastes already for 3 years... personally, when i'm going to buy and play a new game, i also want new content, not just a game with a simple 2 behind its title... i own all raid guns y1+2+3 plus all exotic guns and armor pieces on all 3 classes, including nearly all ships, shaders, sparrows and even the faction exos...and still believe that it's the best to start from scratch again, when playing the sequel...not to mention that i wouldn't have even thought about buying, if it wouldn't have been something totally new...the fact we keep our guardians is still bad enough to me... as i was always very critical with destiny 1, although played the hell out of it (mostly because simply no other game like it out there) and still have to say that there was never a time i ever loved it, i still hope that 2 does EVERYTHING better...and i mean a TRULY open world with more ways for communication and more lively planets... and if this is what 2 will be, i couldn't care less for leaving old stuff behind...the only moments i hated it and still believe that it made bungie a bunch of scum was when they did it in their current game, without being a new game, but just one with expansions...although to call them expansions is laughable, as they made the game smaller everytime lol... personally, what i want from destiny 2 is a true open world, ways for communication w other guardians, cool activities, more planets and a feeling of being powerful...and if the loss of old stuff is the prize, i couldn't care less... note: never spend any $ on silver, not for greedy bungie...so even about this i give a rats a**^^

              •
The concept of the original plan of creating an adventure for 10 years with your Guardian died today.
Wrong. We're keeping the same guardian, with the same achievements, the same path, the same memories. We will still have our guardian on the same adventure. Nothing has changed in that regard. Honestly (and you all will see this sooner or later) this is the best way to go about this. That said, I want a proper explanation from a story point of view as to where my Touch of Malice went. No other pieces of gear, just that one. It is literal proof that I defeated Oryx, Destiny's final boss.

                • While I agree with the sentiment and disappointment with the expectation that Bungie themselves pushed on to us, I'm not surprised and therefore not overly bothered by it by this point. To me, the writing on the wall has been there for quite some time that we'd be starting from scratch. Being pragmatic and steeling myself for the actual confirmation has dulled my reaction to "Well, that's really too bad... but -blam!- it, I enjoy my overall experience too much to let this disuade me from moving forward". I fully understand those who are angered by this. Again, Bungie pushed forth their "keep moving forward with the grind Guardians, your efforts shall not be in vain!" mantra... But, I will point out to those folks that their actions have actually said "Grind! Playtime! Earn your loot! We are taking it away so you can earn it again! Grind! Playtime! We'll allow you to ascend SOME loot! But you gotta Grind for the ascension! Grind it out! Playtime! Here's some micro transactions!" Not that knowing what the answer is doesn't mean you shouldn't be disappointed. But really, you shouldn't be surprised.

While this isn't completely unexpected for me, I'm still disappointed in the scope of what they're leaving behind as well as the way in which they've handled pretty much everything. We've discussed for awhile now that this isn't the game they wanted and that Destiny one essentially died the day they rebooted it in 2013. For the last 2 1/2 years, we've played the stitched together pieces of that game and the longer we've gone, the more those old assets have been spread thin as they used up everything they could while most of the studio worked on D2. The simple fact is that Destiny (one) is not the game that they wanted, it's the game they were stuck with and Destiny 2 will be whatever game they actually wanted to make. That in and of itself isn't actually terrible thing, but where it becomes a BIG DEAL is where they perpetuated the 10 year journey and our legends and the GRIND for gear. Okay, maybe they didn't realize while initially marketing D1 that they wanted to completely reboot and make the game they wanted, but at some point over the last 2 1/2 years that decision was made and yet they not only continued to sell that fantasy, they introduced Eververse. Eververse has always been contentious from its existing at all, to it's RNG purchases to the fears of pay-to-win. In spite of those fears, it was a huge success and players dropped a lot of real world money to get RNG chances at gear sets, emotes, sparrows, etc Now all that is being left behind as well and I'm sorry, but that is not right or as Bungie stated, the best way forward. Players were willing to support Eververse because they enjoy the game, they have a connection to their guardians and they don't mind supporting Bungie in building this game. That faith and support is not being reciprocated. We don't know what D2 will be and maybe the classes, abilities, weapons and gear will all be completely different, but I think that idea is a stretch and I certainly expect emotes and sparrows to exist in that world and if that the case, then this decision is just a complete lack of respect for what players have invested in this game. I know you're pissed off RWG and I know that this is going to really make a lot of players reevaluate how much or if they continue to grind D1 or even purchase D2. Bungie, for 2 1/2 years we've talked about the need for open and honest communication and once more you're telling us what is best for us without asking us. I get it's your game and again, it's not hard to see everything that went wrong that you want to distance yourselves from and begin again, but this all should have been made clear long ago and shows a lack of trust that is kinda disturbing. If you'd been open about D1 being a one off, players most likely still would have supported the game, used Eververse, etc. But they'd have known going in that those things were not going to last and been able to decide if that was worth the investment. You took that choice away. I hope that there will be some reconsiderations and the player base stands up and voices their opinions.

Good Lord, you make it sound like It's the day Hillary or Trump got elected... But I'd like to tell you why it's such a good thing: Now from what I read, you really seem to like your character, and all the items that you purchased with your money, and all the the items you collected that took you countless hours to grind and find, and now that you've read the weekly update, you seem to despise that you are going to lose most of that stuff in Destiny 2. But here's the thing: This idea you probably know is in a lot of games out there. Call of Duty does it (In a way,) World of Warcraft most noticeably does it, and Elder Scrolls Online did it too, but WoW and ESO Had DLC that required you to give up old gear, so you might as well think of Destiny 2 as DLC. "Sequels represent the start of a new adventure for every player, with new worlds to explore, new stories to tell, new powers to acquire, new loot to earn, and much more. This led us to a decision that would enable us to serve both the game and the player’s best interests: Destiny 1 power, possessions, and Eververse-related items and currency will not carry forward. They will, however, remain accessible to you in Destiny." This is nothing new to Bungie, Halo was a good representation of that. Some players even hoped that you would get something a little special if you ever played their previous installments. So, what's my point for all this? We can't continue to hold on to things. From a perspective, we must break free of our previous life... I realize that you might be a collector and a micro-spender, But I'm sure Bungie has some reward in store for those kind of people. But If we were stuck in the same game (Metaphorically speaking) It would get old and dry, like previous days of Destiny 1. It's not like you HAVE to play Destiny 2, you could keep playing Destiny 1 to try and collect all that stuff, it isn't going away. Yes, I'm like you, spent over 1000 hours on this game, I LOVE Collecting things in the game, tried to get every emblem, shader, etc. But you have to understand that Destiny 2 IS bringing some stuff from Destiny 1 into their sequel. Hope you get something from this because I don't lie seeing the community all riled up God bless.

                      • When I played Mass Effect one and moved over to two the new game scanned my ME1 save file and rewarded me according with new resources to match the new game. That was YEARS ago. Bungie doesn't even have to manually look into people inventories there are programs (Destiny Item Manager) for example. Not even made by Bungie that can access my guardians and move anything around. So why not have a program to scan players inventories and reward them with new resources weapons and armor and exotics accordingly. Say for instance I have my Hung Jury - When I switch to the new game it scans my Destiny one profile finds my Hung Jury - Scans the New weapon database with a similar perk/stat scout rifle and places it in my inventory. Even if its locked behind a lvl cap like I need to reach 30 to use it, That would be great, I will work my butt off knowing I have that to look forward to, no Recoding the Hung Jury into the game, just a decent replacement ready for me to use when I reach the needed level

                          • I figured they would take this route. Sadly their approach to respecting players time caused the majority of the player base to leave. The only defense they have is an outdated game engine and code. If they live up to their promise of regularly released content with D2 then the change may be worth the sacrifice.

                          • Respect your view but don't share it. Old gallp is perfectly happy with ditching the gear and keeping the Guardian. Love a clear slate and a new world of undiscovered potential. Rest assured understand that folks who place a lot of stock in their gear will be very cross.

I Definitely (I hope I edited that before you got it. GAHH) can understand and sympathize. However for me I have not made the attachments to my gear to that degree. Especially that a lot of the harder earned gear was done in Y1 which we can't really use any more. I am much happier that my Guardian and his look will carry over. For me that means so much more that the gear itself. I never believed the 10 year plan was anything more than just the 'Destiny' brand. I never thought for a minute that we'd be carrying over everything we've gained per game. That's way too much overhead.
