Edit: I could NOT BE ANY HAPPIER WITH THIS POST. We've been top 5 trending for several hours. Lots of opinions and conversations flowing. Salt has been kept at a wonderfully low level. I love when the community can come together and really talk things out. This is what destiny needs, and I'm so thankful and proud of every one here for being so passionate about the game we all love! GGs everyone.

So, lets talk about the sidearm, and it's overbearing presence in the crucible.
First off I'd like to state the obvious fact that sidearms are NOT OP and were quite rare before the update, aside from nlb users, and our dear friends TrueVanguard and Kjhovey.
Their TTK's range from a minimum of .6 to a maximum of .96 dependant on archetype and headshots landed. As impressive as that sounds their range holds them in a balanced position as powerful short ranged duelers, meant for back up and shotgun countering purposes, and work exactly as they should.
Now, and this is only my opinion, the distaste for sidearms at the moment isn't because of their power, it's simply that the ammo economy forces us into using them. A sidearm has the ability to over power any primary with ease, within its optimal range.
When you have no special, being a common occurrence in the current state of things, you are simply at a disadvantage to a sidearm user.
Ammo persists, more ammo is reimbursed on respawn if empty, and as it seems all this points to MORE slaying potential. This forces many into a position of "use this or do worse."
Did you enjoy being an aggressive sniper, despite the horrid nerfs? A shotty warrior maybe? Maybe you were that elusive fusion main who loves to go for crazy plan c swaps, or cross map people with a saladins. Maybe you feel upset that your aggressive playstyles were almost taken from you entirely, especially in the 6v6 playlist. You have every right to be. Because forcing someone into a style of gameplay they don't enjoy IS NOT BALANCE. It is a lazy and unprofessional attempt to stir the pot.
Bad move bungie. You may have forced primary fights, but you've removed a large portion of the fun for many.

3 RepliesThe only problem with Sidearms is the fact that you keep all the ammo you've picked up. In my opinion they should lose all their special on spawn but keep the standard clip and a half. I also feel like special boxes should automatically reload your weapons like heavy does to me it seems like it slows the game down immensely having to essentially reloading twice.

2 RepliesSidearms are in no way over powered. They do just about everything a hand canon can do but at shorter ranges.

8 RepliesI think that to increase usage of Sidearms, they should have simply made the weapon swap time greater depending on the weapon size and reload speed decreased (which would also make reload perks more advantageous too!) If these changes were there, firefights would be about accuracy, if you couldn't take down your enemy in what is left in your clip, a quick swap would be useful! So bring back blink, shadestep, and anything that made targets harder to hit, increase the skill level of using a Sniper Rifle as targets get harder to hit, the skill level of using Shotguns as players can dodge more effectively, of using fusion Rifles as players movements are harder to track whilst charging... But it would also improve sidearms! And if using these special weapons was harder, people would be using Primaries more for ease of use.

1 ReplyIn 6v6 you will always be able to find ammo. It should be like heavy and auto load when you pick it up though. In elimination Playlists you have created an icebreaker/nlb sidearm meta. I have been running sidearms for a while and enjoy using them. They have brought back sniping in a way by taking shotguns out of the mix. I wish they had just done their shotgun Nerfs and let us play it out to see how it worked. Hard to get a good feel when there isn't ammo.

3 RepliesSidearms weren't buffed during the update. Even with the number of shotgun nerfs, they still outperform sidearms. People just want their special ammo

Fine guns, but all the ammo shouldn't carry through deaths. Should be like ~1,5 clips worth of ammo like normally.
-
4 RepliesOr you could just keep using shotgun, snipers or fusions cause ammo spawns so much you shouldn't not have ammo. I'm still using a shotgun and loving it, I usually have more ammo than I used to cause crates spawn so often. If you die you just go snag the closest special crate. Most the crates are there when you get there since everyone is using sidearm and not grabbing crates.

1 ReplyIf they would just reduce the ammo you respawn with to 18 rounds with no ammo saved after death it would alleviate the problem. That or revert special ammo economy back to pre-patch and reduce the amount of ammo picked up by shotguns.

5 RepliesAs an avid fusion rifle enthusiast, I was hesitant about the special ammo economy at first. But after a good few days, I became more confident with it. My main problem is in 3v3. Trials specifically. I had seen my GF go flawless many times prior to this weapon update with a fusion. But actually playing one card of Trials this weekend, it immediately turned me off. I don't mind sidearms, but I could instantly see why people gravitated towards them. (For the ammo on respawn)

19 RepliesNobody is forced to use them, ammo spawns every 60 damn seconds, people just move to the weapon everyone cries about, sheep lol Pretty much every time I respawn I'm mere meters and seconds away from ammo, there is no problem at all.... I like sidearms, always have....
