Read This:I know that this is quite a long post, but I highly encourage all to read it.
The Crucible, one of the most unique PVP experiences that a video game has to offer is no longer what is used to be...
I have been playing Destiny ever since its launch in September of 2014(As have most of you reading this post). During its first two months, I had fallen in love with the game, especially its PVP aspect of the game, the well known Crucible.
During those 2 months, the Crucible was completely dominated by auto rifles. Hand cannons and pulse rifles were practically unheard of at the time.
However, those first two months of Destiny were unforgettable for me. Even though there was no diversity in the Crucible, everyone was having fun! At the end of the day, that is why we still play video games. To have fun! Let's continue with the Crucible's past.
Eventually auto rifles were nerfed around November 2014, but they were still a main choice for many people regardless of their weaker performance.
Secondaries, though, were under the radar for a while until February 2015, where we saw Lord Saladin bring in the notorious Felwinter's Lie, which offered maximum damage and range with a reforge ability(I still use this shotgun as my main special weapon today lol).
Fast forwarding to March 2015, we see a hand cannon buff, and many people started to pick up the Thorn, Hawkmoon and Last Word.
The rest of Year 1 brought in Trials, and the meta stayed roughly the same until September 2015...
Then comes The Taken King. I will never forget the update. In my opinion, the Crucible has been dead ever since the 2.0 update.
Why? There is an aspect that has been snatched away through the update: fun.
In Year 1, weapons were crazy OP! But who cared? Everyone had fun messing around with hand cannons in Trials, or playing with a Suros in control during Destiny's early days.
After earning over 115,000 kills and having a combined Crucible rank of 170, I will say that the only time that the Crucible ever gave me fun back was during Year 1.
I will explain to you why I believe that this is the case.
In a nutshell, Year 1 had more aim assist, range and damage on weapons, which, in a way, gave the game an "easy" feel to it. This is my theory on why Year 1 was much more fun to many people.
Now, how should we go about fixing this? I believe that Destiny needs to have better and more efficient updates. For example:
A typical update would look like this:
Nerfs
-20% Range Reduction on Handcannons
-15% Damage Reduction on Hancannons
-15% Stability Reduction on Hancannons
-10% Range Reduction on Pulse Rifles
-10% Damage Reduction on Pulse Rifles
-15% Stability Reduction on Pulse Rifles
Buffs
-1% Damage increase on auto rifles
-2% Stability increase on auto rifles
See my point? Throughout Destiny's life, we have seen too many unfairly distributed updates. There will be dramatic nerfs toward the highly used weapons and very subtle changes in the lesser used weapons(1% increases are practically nothing)
This is the reason why Year 1 weapons had more stability, range and damage. In fact, every statistic on a weapon was better in Year 1!
I do believe that Destiny should go back to a Year 1 meta. Yes, there will be weapons that are much stronger than others, but as we know, Year 1 brought a whole lot of fun to a lot of people.
Let me know your thoughts on the Crucible.
Edit: Wow! I had not expected this post to get this much feedback. Thank you to everyone who took the time to read my thoughts. Can we get enough comments and likes so that Bungie can see this?
I also want to mention that I had mostly talked about primaries during this post, however all aspects of the Crucible need tweaking; Everything from special ammo spawn to weapon perks and subclasses. In fact, everything had much better statistics in Year 1!

I have comprised some YouTube videos of of my favorite Year 1 weapons. If you never played during Year 1, you will be surprised at how Destiny has evolved. If you did play during Year 1, let these videos bring back some of those memories!(The videos are Year 1 gameplays of those weapons)

1 ReplyCrucible was at first intended to be only side content, never the main focus. About half way through yr 1 Bungie shifted the game focus towards Crucible.
