Read This:I know that this is quite a long post, but I highly encourage all to read it.
The Crucible, one of the most unique PVP experiences that a video game has to offer is no longer what is used to be...
I have been playing Destiny ever since its launch in September of 2014(As have most of you reading this post). During its first two months, I had fallen in love with the game, especially its PVP aspect of the game, the well known Crucible.
During those 2 months, the Crucible was completely dominated by auto rifles. Hand cannons and pulse rifles were practically unheard of at the time.
However, those first two months of Destiny were unforgettable for me. Even though there was no diversity in the Crucible, everyone was having fun! At the end of the day, that is why we still play video games. To have fun! Let's continue with the Crucible's past.
Eventually auto rifles were nerfed around November 2014, but they were still a main choice for many people regardless of their weaker performance.
Secondaries, though, were under the radar for a while until February 2015, where we saw Lord Saladin bring in the notorious Felwinter's Lie, which offered maximum damage and range with a reforge ability(I still use this shotgun as my main special weapon today lol).
Fast forwarding to March 2015, we see a hand cannon buff, and many people started to pick up the Thorn, Hawkmoon and Last Word.
The rest of Year 1 brought in Trials, and the meta stayed roughly the same until September 2015...
Then comes The Taken King. I will never forget the update. In my opinion, the Crucible has been dead ever since the 2.0 update.
Why? There is an aspect that has been snatched away through the update: fun.
In Year 1, weapons were crazy OP! But who cared? Everyone had fun messing around with hand cannons in Trials, or playing with a Suros in control during Destiny's early days.
After earning over 115,000 kills and having a combined Crucible rank of 170, I will say that the only time that the Crucible ever gave me fun back was during Year 1.
I will explain to you why I believe that this is the case.
In a nutshell, Year 1 had more aim assist, range and damage on weapons, which, in a way, gave the game an "easy" feel to it. This is my theory on why Year 1 was much more fun to many people.
Now, how should we go about fixing this? I believe that Destiny needs to have better and more efficient updates. For example:
A typical update would look like this:
Nerfs
-20% Range Reduction on Handcannons
-15% Damage Reduction on Hancannons
-15% Stability Reduction on Hancannons
-10% Range Reduction on Pulse Rifles
-10% Damage Reduction on Pulse Rifles
-15% Stability Reduction on Pulse Rifles
Buffs
-1% Damage increase on auto rifles
-2% Stability increase on auto rifles
See my point? Throughout Destiny's life, we have seen too many unfairly distributed updates. There will be dramatic nerfs toward the highly used weapons and very subtle changes in the lesser used weapons(1% increases are practically nothing)
This is the reason why Year 1 weapons had more stability, range and damage. In fact, every statistic on a weapon was better in Year 1!
I do believe that Destiny should go back to a Year 1 meta. Yes, there will be weapons that are much stronger than others, but as we know, Year 1 brought a whole lot of fun to a lot of people.
Let me know your thoughts on the Crucible.
Edit: Wow! I had not expected this post to get this much feedback. Thank you to everyone who took the time to read my thoughts. Can we get enough comments and likes so that Bungie can see this?
I also want to mention that I had mostly talked about primaries during this post, however all aspects of the Crucible need tweaking; Everything from special ammo spawn to weapon perks and subclasses. In fact, everything had much better statistics in Year 1!
If you never got to experience Year 1:
I have comprised some YouTube videos of of my favorite Year 1 weapons. If you never played during Year 1, you will be surprised at how Destiny has evolved. If you did play during Year 1, let these videos bring back some of those memories!(The videos are Year 1 gameplays of those weapons)

1 ReplyEdited by IxAMxBRANCH: 2/3/2017 12:12:28 AMThe entire crucible downfall comes down to one thing. Precision damage. Skilled players hit headshots rewarding them with fastest Time to kill. Less skilled players can't/don't and therefore cried OP. Then, nerf, nerf, nerf Not to mention Bungie uses skewed data for balance basis. "Bladedancers have held the highest KD, with defenders sitting on last so we are nerfing blades and buffing defenders" Problem is, bladedancers were much more popular and much higher skilled players tended to main that pulling the KD average up. Vice versa, newer destiny gamers gravitate towards Titans pulling KD average down.

Crucible was doomed when the retards didn't add dedicated servers.
-
I feel like I'm the only one who doesn't miss year 1 at all when it comes to the Crucible. The Crucible has always been an unbalanced shit show, but it was especially bad in year 1.
-
10 RepliesCrucible is better now than it ever has been. Still the smoothest and most unique PvP around. Just don't use shotguns and pulse rifles. There are ways to counter them as well.

Edited by bFLY: 2/2/2017 12:31:56 AMPvp players moaned and bitched until they got their way. The bad players complained about weapons that were killing them, falsely calling them op. This caused the majority of nerfs and buffs that screwed with the balance. The good players complained about having to try every match, and always having to play people who can actually beat them (they'd rather Pubstomp with little effort). This led to cbmm, sbmm, and all the mechanisms in between being changed and tweaked which further screwed up the balance. Bungie caved to both sides. Throw in some lag, paid carries, rampant cheating, and ddos, and you've then destroyed the legitimacy of the leaderboards and achievements. That's how crucible got to where it is today.

In year one I used to run around a corner, confident in my gun skill that it alone could win me a fight. Now, I don't, because bullshit is waiting around every corner.
-
Community. The greatest threat to destiny. Wish they would go back to year one meta just for a week so we could do all the crazy shit again
-
3 RepliesHoly -blam!- you put a lot of effort into unsourced and inaccurate info

Crucible was doomed since the first patch. Bungie have done a horrible job at balancing Destiny, they have been to over and under handed in adjustments that tilt the scales like they are in a hurricane. The second part is that there are too many variables within the crucible to try abd control. Its like trying to make borderlands a competitive fps....

2 RepliesWhen exotics were exotic. Auto rifle meta was never a bad thing as it kept casuals playing as their guns were working unlike now. Every conversation with a new destiny player goes, "get rank 3 in crucible buy the palidrome and wait for a god roll matador" Where as year one was, "You gotta grind for them exotics mate, get yourself a last word or a suros regime and you'll be king of the crucible...." This being said exotics were harder to get then but atleast when you got them you knew they were OVERPOWERED (yeah I said it) I don't care what anyone says exotic meta will only help this game at this point.

I disagree. I think we should take different metas from throughout Destiny. Autos in TDB, Handcannons from HoW, pulses from 2.0, scouts from halfway through TTK.
-
What ruined the Crucible?
Whiny children who can't stand losing.
-
1 ReplyCrucible was at first intended to be only side content, never the main focus. About half way through yr 1 Bungie shifted the game focus towards Crucible.
-
If that was an actual weapons patch, imagine how broken scouts would be >:)
-
Can't read all that, sorry

1 ReplyI appreciate you taking the time and effort you took to make this post, but you have to understand, you have a bias and your thoughts are very opinionated. So are mine, or anyone who plays destiny for that matter. We have a vested interest. I didn't play much crucible in year 1, but I've been playing since launch, and what I remember about early year 1 is I couldn't use the weapons I like ( range, scouts and pulse) pulse rifles were a joke until the first major weapon balance. The answer, to me, is simple enough, no drastic huge changes like they've been doing, and frequent balancing patches...I personally would be willing to pay a monthly subscription for a game like that

I dont think the Crucible has failed its yust a question of balance
-
Yes. And as a result of the high damage and fast abilities (pre nerf blink, sunsinger etc) the skill cap was Very high. It's not anymore. The game was a blast Y1. Completely agree about the taken king removing a lot of the fun factor. Add in SBMM, less relevant activities and a million nerfs and you've arrived at destiny year 2 and 3 crucible.
-
It's a mess but what are you gonna do. Play it and stop whining (that's if you are)
-
5 RepliesI think it would be an awesome idea to add 6v6- patch 2.0 (etc) as weekly featured playlists so you could go back to using weapons you like and still do well with them
-
We're has it failed. it was a training ground to prepare guardians for the battlefield but now it a breeding ground for elitists that care more about they kd ratio & the weapon with the best god roll
-
4 RepliesRight, let's go back to when you could teamwipe a clash team with vex mythoclast...twice... without reloading. When Thorn was the preferred sniper for most. When TLW could kill in 2 headshots from across the map. When Felwinters Lie shot so far it actually makes Matador look like a shotgun. Yes, y1 did have some great aspects, but it also had quite a few shockingly horrible ones. The ideal would be to revert to y1 as far as game mechanics go (CBMM, bloom, ammo, trials boons), but not as far as weapons go. Weapons should be buffed overall to bring down their TTK, the average in my opinion should be about .9-1.1 seconds in optimal range.

1 ReplyIdk...Taken king brought sunbreaker, stormcaller, and nightstalker. I never had as much fun in crucible till sunbreaker came out, even mid nerf I still loved it more than boring ass striker and defender (but man hammer inconsistency was a pain) Although I did enjoy the guns more, it was just boring to me, so much so I would usually drop the game for weeks/ months at a time. I'm not saying it was bad, because I really enjoyed the diversity...But there is still one thing about year one that I still hate. Blade dancers and sunsingers It's not because I hate the hunter class, I just HATED blade dancer and sunsingers. Literally spamming bolt grenades pissed me off. Blade dancer being near unkillable was also horrendous, and god damn front stab was annoying Gunslingers getting their super faster than everyone else, essentially giving them a free 3 man wipe. Year 2 brought more class balance, it essentially made striker and defender worth using in the crucible. Remember T-Rex arms and only 132 damage for striker charged melee...Ew Remember foh almost requiring you to be point blank? I sure as hell do. Remember when strikers could tank golden gun shots with unstoppable on? Rip the dream. And don't even get me started on exotics...

1 ReplyI think the only people complaining about pvp are the ones that force themselves to use meta every.. damn... game... clever dragon and matador. PvP is light years better now than before. Nobody wants the ridiculous TTKs. People want gunfights and counters. That is what makes this game so great. If anyone here thinks we need to buff all weapons to equal the clever dragon TTK you are fooling yourself and you are -blam!-ing up this game. Go play COD you tween numbnut! We don't want that shit!

You are right about fun factor being dismissed, but there is more then that. Bungie did an amazing game with PVE aspect and crucible is a place for us guardians to test our weapons and skills while having fun. They told we can use our pve guns with pve and feel the same. Someway they create a unique experience to all of us but meanwhile pvp players started to cry from their asses because they can't compete against powerful weapons and they are too lazy or stupid to do a raid etc. ** I rip my ass to get my vex mythoclast but it was too powerful for pvp players. We all know this game is a pve based game or at least sold as one, and %70 destiny users happy with it. %30 which was more likely pvp players and streamers hate this design. Because some unknown guy can kick their ass with hawkmoon or suros etc. They forced bungie to favor pvp and trials happened! ** Have you ever thought why all bungie favored streamers have all guns ships etc. which people try and try and try again to get. Bungie still saying to us we can use same guns with pve and pvp but it's just an illusion. If you want to compete you need to use meta! It's not too different from oldschool pvp games like doom/quake which every one uses the same weapons. Every games, full of people using Clever Dragon/Matador/Truth. Well, what happen to use whatever we want to have fun? Right. If, Bungie stay firm and keep making a pve based game and don't care about pvp players k/d ratio this was not happened or at least seperate nerfs and buffs from pve god dammit!!! ** Once upon a time, we were powerfull. Now they create a new META with ever update which is a new carrot for players. They don't care about pve anymore because only alive streamers are pvp players. ** They guy who is in charge with updates playing other games then destiny, but still in charge. funny isn't it. The only reason i keep playing is raiding with my friends for fun. I gain nothing in exchange because they -blam!-ed raid weapons with removing elemental primaries but it's still fun because i am playing with my real life friends. Other than, this game is boring as hell. It started with TTK as you said with most boring meta and raid! As a result, we have a little pve content and most of them repeating as hell and grinding stupid useless guns and a stale, not fun but competitive pvp.
