I'm solely a PVP player and will for the most part avoid PVE at all costs. Up until a few days ago I hadn't done a single nightfall or a single raid in year 2, but with the April update I found my light level lacking in trials and iron banner being stuck at 312 so I thought I'd give the raid a shot, it couldn't be that hard I'd done over 100 raids in year one and achieved flawless raider in VOG way before dark below dropped.
But my experience in LFG and the forums was astounding, multiple times kicked from parties because I don't have touch of malice, exotic swords, black spindle or the sleeper or just due to low light level/lack of experience. I finally managed to jump in an experienced team for a hard challenge mode run by offering a trials flawless carry in return and even though they knew how the raid worked and I didn't I still got almost double anyone else's kills.
What truly amazed me was how happy they were at oryx that I was able to kill the Knights consistently so quickly while often someone would have trouble and call for help... Really how hard is it to headshot a knight once that spawns in the exact same place every damn time?
My point is anyone who's done the raid a couple of times SHOULD be smashing it out like a pro every time after, that's not skill it just means you're not an idiot and can remember a simple strategy. Obviously there's exceptions when you start soloing or going for flawless raider but simply beating the same raid the same way 3 times every week isn't impressive and it certainly must get boring. I also feel any decent PVP player could quickly transition into a great PVE player with little effort, and I doubt the same would be true in reverse.

Cool story bro.

Edited by davidoff121: 5/12/2016 4:56:56 PMI'd agree that the transition from pvp to pve is easier. I don't classify myself as either I find both fun and would like to think I'm pretty good at both

6 RepliesIf you get me to the lighthouse I will carry you through any raid you want. You can sit in the corner and collect loot. I can run raids with my eye's closed but, PVP for me is much harder. Now, put me outside off the game with a gun and I can put round after round where I want it. The skill set doesn't translate though to video games.

The skill has as much to do with the rest of the fireteam as anything else. Killing the knight that is your responsibility might be a simple headshot, but if one person falls short, everything can get out of hand pretty quickly. Take the Ogres, for example. As long as the 2 in the middle do their job, no problem. But if one of them starts running, it ruins the raid for the whole team.

I agree on the part about pvp players easily translating it to pve. Kills in pve don't mean much though as there I times I don't even shoot stuff and just wait for the next thing to happen (oryx). I let everyone else do all the dumb shooting.

Even though it's bait; Most of your post is true, but considering myself a very experienced raider there's one point you made (or seemed to be trying to make) I simply can't agree on; The amount of kills in a raid does not reflect knowledge or skill, there are rolls in which you don't even kill at all. But yeah, I do agree being able to raid does not neccesarily mean you're a well-skilled player.

Fight me.

That's why I play both PVE and PVP. Makes sense. Why not experience everything the game has to offer? That's also why I have a PS4 and Xbox 1. No point in limiting yourself if you don't have to.

1 ReplyKills doesn't mean skill in the raid

Edited by xbob lv: 5/12/2016 4:49:17 PMMore than 50% of players in destiny have not completed the raid. You are right in some regards. Anyone who has gone flawless in trials should not have a problem in the raid. Communication, gun skills, and not dying are important in both activities. Some pvp players have a problem with the team mechanics and the not dying part. They are used to being lone wolfs and having a quick respawn. For players without touch or black spindle, you just have to be more flexible. Instead of reloading your 1000yd switch to heavy mg, then finish with your primary. Reloading can take too much time. Also be upfront with groups. Raids are a fun group activity.
-
Shame you found it so hard to find a group as its very easy if only 1 in the group hasn't much experience in year 2 raids, I'd agree most pvp players would have no problem after 1 or 2 runs but some would be terrible, Some people have no attention span and just can't follow instruction and sadly that goes for a lot of people that have run raids loads as well.

1 ReplyEdited by arthurbox: 5/12/2016 3:52:34 PMI'd run the raid/coe with you every week if we did trials too haha

i know this is bait but nah, PVPers are generally worse at PVE

1 ReplyEdited by Darches: 5/12/2016 2:59:03 PMI was on plate 3, and people were amazed I sniped knight 3, and even more amazed I sniped knight 4! I play both PvE and PvP, I'm mostly here for the loot. The sheer quantity of players unable to snipe a slow, red-bar knight is mind boggling. They even have extra large heads to make it easier. The raid is a cakewalk if you play with skilled people. It's a pain to find good people on LFG.

What I don't like about the new raid is that it's too mechanical, people all have different strategies and when theirs doesn't get used they just leave
-
3 RepliesBiggest problem with the raid is people not explaining a what to expect, players not communicating, not following directions and the freaking raid glitches!

Thank you for sharing

2 RepliesOut of shear curiosity, why don't you have Sleeper Simulant or Black Spindle yet?

You are a scrub. Plain and simple.

Everything aspect of this game requires a particular skill set to be learned my friend. Some skills take more time to learn than others of course, yet none are more important than the other in the big picture. Whether it be split second decision making, excellent marksmanship, genuine team work, solid communication, or knowing your role inside and out; they're all important skills that help Guardians accomplish their goals quickly and efficiently in both PVP and PVE. The point is to have fun.
-
If the guy can't snipe a knight then your team was definitely not as experienced as you made them sound like
-
Spot on man. I used to be a hardcore raider, would help people flat out. Started playing pvp when the dark below came out.. I sucked ass, got destroyed but i found it alot more fun. The transition from pve to pvp is hard. Especially if you never set foot in the cruicible before. My stats are improving ever so slowly tho.

Bad bait is for Suckers!!!

8 RepliesThis is cute. But I will say that's it's annoying to deal with people who can't snipe their knights.

All lies. PvE is the hardest thing about this game. My raid group would destroy the best trials team in patrol
